Perrins, babbitts, and a whole lot more statewide have the door wide open to this kind of stuff. Stay tuned cause once the cash starts flowing everybody will jump on board eventually. Don't blame em either as I'm a capitalist but that doesn't mean I like it.....

backpacking in the southern units, mainly 36b

Once you start backpacking for Coues deer you will never want to hunt any other way.... Or you will hate it...... Get your gear system down and know what you need to carry vs what you want to bring and it's awesome!!! Good luck.. -
Cow elk hunts in 6a, 8, 7w,7e, 10, 6b.... All have plenty of elk.... Drive roads till you find em or climb any hill and glass till you see em.

Good call. -
So it sounds like this Elusive Pursuit Outfitters has already planned to corner the market and secure all the permits. I would never contact an outfitter whose priority was greed and wanting sole rights. I got news for you they ALL want these things!!!! I was part of the BS for a long time and can tell you new outfitters might have a little love and romance for the hunt but after a while it becomes a Job and then they think exactly that....profit and private ground. ....

Coming to a ranch near you! How bad a$$ is that, that a rancher can now determine what is high demand and what is not so they can crank a bunch more money. pretty soon every ranch will be motivated to make their ranch a HD area cause a couple big deer, elk, antelope, we're killed there once. The barn door is wide open now. For those of us that don't have deep pockets we better get better jobs! Spineless AZGFD............. to those that will defend the dept..... When this spreads, cause the precedent is set, how will you feel then?

I used to ice fish up there all the time. Would catch em using a small 1/4 spoon with a single hook tipped with a meal worm. If there is a bunch of snow on top of the ice, clear an area around the hole to let light thru the ice. Using the spoon attracts em like a cowbell!

I don't know the unit at all but if you find a basin or canyon off the roads that would take a little work to get to you will do fine. Nobody walks far for piggies. My son killed his pig this year a short hike from a main road, it is a basin protected from view by a steep ridge from the road. Nobody hunts it. Always has a big herd there. Funny thing is the surrounding areas get pounded to death with very few shots heard. Also if it stays warm like it is now hunt at sun up we were done opening morn at 8:15. Good luck

How did the hunt go? I took my 10 yr old son out for his first big game hunt. 45 min after we parked it was over after he made a 96 yrd shot. So stoked for him and I think he is hooked cause all he talks about is turkey and getting put in for elk and antelope.

Do the math, 35 slots for early archery times $500 = $17500. That ain't that much money... One outfitter can buy the whole allotment..... Charge 10-12k or more for AZ " private land" hunt and make $350,000 or more. Pretty good ROI if you are an outfitter. And that's just one hunt. Do the math for the rest. Sad deal...
-
I bet outfitters will pre buy most of the allotment on the hd hunts. If you wanna hunt the Bo you are gonna have to book with an outfitter. Un intended consequences I'm sure but you can bet deep pocket outfitters will be all over this... I know I would be if I was an outfitter..

21 is tough. Did you see any? I have spent 7 days in jan in there looking at deer and finally found one herd, first one in a year of looking around. It was a big herd but we were about 2 miles off a road.

So my favorite sausage maker (Denmark) stopped making sausage from game meat. Business change not anti hunting. So I am in search of a new one. I like summer, pepper sticks, chorizo. Is there anyplace that I can try before I drop off 50-60 lbs and end up with crap.... Who all do you guys use?? Thx in advance
-
Called the other day to check when they were open and lead time to finish about 50-60 # of game meat. That's when they said they weren't doing game anymore.

Jan 1st. Was gonna take a couple piggies and some yr old stuff down there like I do every year and they said no mas starting jan 1st. My buddy just got his Coues back as well. I'm sure they will finish all orders they have as they are a stand up business. Just sucks cause they made the best...... Everything! Funny thing is a couple of you guys are recommending Von Hansens and that is one of the places Denmark recommended as well. May think about making it myself but that will have to wait till next year. Are there recipes for pepper sticks ( slim Jim's)? My kids love those things from Denmark and will go thru a bag of them faster than a fat kid and a bag of cookies! Lol

Congrats and nice offer! Be careful or you will lose the spot. I volunteered at the 20c jr camp for many years taking kids out to kill pigs in some of my good spots that were easy for kids to kill at. I always asked the parents to forget where we were hunting at as these herds we hunted were saved to take kids to only. I wouldn't even hunt them with my own tag. They all promised they wouldn't go back..lies lies lies..... Not only would they go back and hunt with their kids but they would be there with their buddies hunting. Now the 10-20 count herds I had are either gone or reduced down to 5 or so.... Now I just keep to myself and my family, it sucks but it is the way it is anymore...

Wolves don't take that many and they are too busy eating all the elk and moose. They need to be controlled like everything else. If that's what needs to be done then get it done. I for one would shoot one to fill a freezer, wouldn't call it a hunt tho. Just going grocery shopping outside is all it would be. Bison is good food!

Yes it helps a bunch. 5-7-10 or 30 days into a season you won't be nearly as tired. Kill 5-9 miles back in somewhere and the last shape you want to be is round. Stay classy trphyhntr.....

Try slick tricks. Great broadhead!
