Leupold VX 1 3x9 40mm gloss, used, for sale. Has marks from rings, on front part. Leupold mounts and rings, STD Low rings (.650 ...49897, with wrench and screws) are free if you buy the scope. Rem 700 compatible. I used this for one year. Am doing some spring cleaning, so the price for scope and rings is $150. I prefer Tucson area inquiries. Prefer not to ship. Turbo

Extreme cold weather bag, military issue, with down and poly fill. Great car, truck bag. You will not be cold in this bag. Has some fading and wearing on flap for zipper and snaps. This affects ease of using some snaps. Zipper is heavy duty and works. Weight is 10.5 pounds. Asking $15 for it, as I got a deal on it and I think it would make a great bag for youths on late season hunts. Tucson area, east side only, for exchange.

Has been sent to Swarovski to have new strap attachments put on, and new rubber coating. Comes with Crooked Horn Magnum bino harness, brown, used over 1.5 years worth of seasons. Being a bit sarcastic with the "30 06 enough" stuff....forgot to use the sarcasm font, lol. I know that old cartridge works. Time to start practicing

That first picture is why I love hunting Arizona. Congratulations

unless I forgot that I bought something else for $135 on March 3, it looks like I get to google "Is 30 06 enough for elk?".

Sunday had a coues buck come into my mule deer ambush. He feed into the greenpatch, then caught my wind at 11 yards. The west wind hit the edge of that tiny draw, swirled, and he thereby avoided being my closest archery kill yet. That coues would have been under 10 yards. He gave me an earlier instant of a shot, but a bit far, and I hesitated. Shot a judo point later on, missed low, and I knew from the arrow drop the approximate yardage before I paced it off the distance. 33 paces (Of course, closeness is no guarantee; I sailed an arrow over a coues spike at 10 yards in December). Anyway, soon after, saw the mule does where I expected them. The big one was in there with them, rutting behavior shown., and I moved closer, but they stopped feeding my way, the terrain and evening turning black, and that ended my January hunt. New area for me, hunted when I could the last two weeks, never closer than 50 yards. I am a lot smarter than I was two weeks ago regarding mule deer.

My area of hunting, I see it winding down. Few days ago, mature big buck with about 11 does, and another buck, smaller coming in, tired from partying. Yesterday, 30 plus does, no bucks. Going at this stickbow style like Tradman, so stick with it Tradman.

Good buck. How did it all go down?

Good job. Bowhunting can be hard. I bet someone reading this needs the inspiration.

I agree with daryl, he said in more concisely. I got a little lazy with that tag....but the terrain out there is enormous.

From reading the post this year, and from friend's hunt, mule deer hunting aint always easy. Always good to hunt with out of state friends,.
-
That young hunter is standing tall. Great season for him.

Predator camo working in that terrain. Nice buck

My experience., N = 1 (Don't know if your hunt is over). I had the October tag. Took a hickory bow. Sort passed on a spike, and soon after did not look hard enough in manzanitas. The bucks were there. The bucks got up and moved out, into view of a jeep road a half mile, 3/4 mile out, with a few rigs on it and hunters. I moved out of there, and heard some volleys that day. No more bucks not to be seen, with heat and the prior evening Night Ball. Sat water. A man scouting elk came up on the pond, and as he left, a buck and doe got up further up the ridge. Deer, these deer?,had come in last evening, but a thermal at 20 or so yards alerted him, her, both (had bow setup, so they would have had to walk past me to see). Took a day off later that week, some hunter using the mentioned jeep road, and I saw no bucks beyond a small spike. My Unit 22 plan had been to hike further in, but had the October flu, or whatever it was, and therefore hunted where I had earlier scouted bucks. Driving up there from Tucson, I saw vehicles parked off the highway, and few crawling around on the dirt roads. Not alot, but enough. Wanted to hunt something different, and did. But I think I should have put 23 in as first choice. If I get a Unit 22 hunt again, I will backpack further in. In retrospect, kinda silly not to expect that, given Phx's proximity.

I spy a saguaro in one photo. Cactus coues. Incredible deer.

Hiked about 8-9 miles on Arizona Trail, north of Oracle. Been doing that Black Hills Section in sections, just one more 7 mile stretch to go. and lots of stumping with the primitive bow, in steep Catalina Mtns. This year will be real "backcountry hunting"...

Desert Bowhunting without the illegals
turbo replied to JimmyHat's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I will have to rescind my earlier statement, about not seeing any one in the border units. and frankly, it looks to be worse than the Bush era. That video showing trash, debris, clothes, backpacks is not unusual, but the stuff was getting pretty sun-worn and brittle. Now the desert is going to get fresh backpacks, jeans, water bottles, etc... -
Welcome. Give us details of the hunt....
