Doug from Camera Land's Day 3 SHOT Show Report It will seem like today I was shown the way in the dark as it was a very Thermal day. I set up some appointments with brands we have not carried so I can see about perhaps adding them to our offerings. My 1st appointment was over at N-Vision. We've been speaking since the beginning of the Summer and Tym seems like a knowledgeable guy and N-Vision seems to have some great products. I believe we will be moving forward with N-Vision. Tym showed me their HALO-XRF Thermal Scope - "HALO-XRF is N-Vision Optics latest groundbreaking product that combines state of the art BAE thermal imaging CORE with top customer demanded features, such as integrated laser range finder, onboard video recording, and WiFi connectivity. I had many things to discuss with the guys here. I briefly met with one of the guys here last year. After which Arken followed up with me and we started doing business together. Lots of business together. Their scopes are excellent in their price point. They've added some good products over the past year. Their accessories are very well made and priced way below industry average. We had a very attentive representative, and that made communication easy, however, he is no longer with Arken and I've been concerned about spotty communication. Those of you who know me know that with me relationships with people is key to working with a company. Once the bean counters come in and relationships disappear it's the beginning of the end. This has happened with a few companies over the past few years and it's very sad. I wanted to discuss communication issues that some of our customers have brought to our attention and, of course, see if they had anything new to show. I happily had what I thought was a great conversation with the head man. He explained that they are in the process of reassigning some of their existing people to make things more efficient, as well as adding new people so they'll be better equipped to handle their popularity and corresponding growth. I felt much better after our chat. Here's looking to smooth sailing and improved communication. Next stop was with an old buddy from the industry that I have worked with many years. He's now with Armasight. We started carrying Armasight a few months ago. Armasight is top tier Nightvision & Thermal. To say I was impressed with their offerings would be an understatement. If you want something serious in a weapon sight their Contractor 640 is their Bread & Butter. "The Contractor Thermal Weapon Sight is built around our proprietary ArmaCORE™ 12 micron thermal core. It combines extensive detection capabilities and a rich, detailed picture with onboard image processing, wireless communication interface, GPS, and internal memory. Staying in this area of optics I walked over to see Nathan over at InfiRay or maybe better known to you as iRay. "InfiRay is committed to providing global customers with professional and competitive infrared thermal imaging products and solutions. The main products include infrared detectors, thermal imaging modules, night vision thermal cameras, thermographic cameras for temperature measurement" as well as weapon sights. FWIW, my rep is a guy I have known in the industry for many years and not only is he very well versed in Thermal but he is a customer service oriented guy. He showed me their Thermal Imaging Monocular Finder Series- FH35R V2, which according to him @ $2499.99 it's on par with the competitions $4000.00 units. "The Finder V2 takes a big leap in image quality and user experience. The thermal sensor has higher sensitivity and the objective lens is equipped with a bigger aperture. Together with inherited features, Finder V2 fits perfectly for the professional hunter, who demands excellent performance and ultra-portable design. The 12µm 640×512 thermal sensor is upgraded to higher thermal sensitivity, reaching an NETD of Sub 20mk. In combination with the enlarged F0.9 aperture which allows for more radiation, Finder V2 is able to capture perfect details in challenging conditions." As announced a few weeks ago, we started carrying their InfiRay Outdoor AFFO AP13 Thermal Monocular - "The AFFO Series handheld thermal imaging monocular is an entry-level thermal monocular for users, featuring both a fashionable appearance and a more compact size. The AFFO Series uses a self-developed 12μm detector to produce crisp images and supports photo taking and video recording with its built-in high-speed 32GB storage capacity" Priced at only $699.00 this is a steal. A short walk brought me over to Sightron. A very interesting company. They are, as far as I know, the only Pacific Rim sport optics brand that makes NONE of their riflescopes in China. Sightron's are made in the Philippines and Japan only. They offer everything from their entry level S1 Series, priced way below what you'd expect and less than comparable made in China offerings from competitors up through their SVIII 5-40x56 ED IR Zero Stop Series. They just announced a new S6 10-60x56 ED Field Target Riflescope. It's made in Japan, offered in both MOA & MIL. Camera Land's SHOT Show Day 1 Report Welcome to SHOT Show 2024 Day 1. This year is a bit different than years past as many brands do not have booths here this year. This will allow me the time to walk the show and perhaps find something new to enlarge our brand offering. More will be revealed once there's something exciting to reveal. I went to my first meeting with Athlon. I was looking forward to seeing my friend, and sales rep, Drake as it's been a few months since I've seen him. Part of the fun of SHOT is seeing the folks we speak to on the phone all year long. We let you know about Athlons new line of Thermals a couple of months ago. So far the feedback has been very positive. They spec as good or better than the competition and cost less. Win Win on these thermals for sure. Their new Cronus G2 7-42x60 UHD Reticle Spotting Scope has proven to be an excellent addition to the limited choices in reticle spotters. Well made, great optics, 7-42x60 magnification with their TSSR FFP MIL Reticle. Priced at $479.99 this will be a great addition for you. They also added binoculars to their offerings.... Their new Helix HD's are available in both 8x42 and 10x42. They have nice ergonomics but I feel they are another Me Too binocular. Priced at $489.99 they are worth the price but are more of the same in that price class. Next up was Swarovski. I was curious for this meeting as our long time, and I mean loooooong time, Swarovski rep left the Optics Industry for the Fishing Industry so I have been working directly with my Swarovski customer service rep for the last few months. He's a great guy but sales is not his wheelhouse. As we reported in our Pre-SHOT Show News the new Swarovski AX Visio 10x32 Smart Binocular is a SHOT Show must see. "AX Visio: The first smart binoculars The AX Visio is the perfect symbiosis of digital intelligence and high-performance sport optics. Those of you who are not familiar with GPO it was started around a decade ago by the Ex-President of Zeiss USA and their head of R&D. Great pedigree in the optics world. GPO has been busy. They are showing their new line of Passion SD Binoculars, Rangeguide RF Binoculars in 8x40 & 10x40 and they've also got a new Centuri Riflescope Series that looks interesting with a couple of them only 9" long and light weight. Lastly, and I'd like to think this is coming because I have been asking and asking for it, they will have a new 15x50 Passion HD binocular. Coming this Summer. I learned the hard way, years ago, that walking 10 miles back and forth by not paying attention to booth locations when setting up meetings is a major rookie mistake. I walked a few aisles over to meet with Steiner & then Burris as their booths are next to each other. Steiner announced, and already started shipping, their great new Steiner H6Xi Series Riflescopes. They also entered the reticle spotting scope market with their TS740 MIL reticle spotter. March is the expected delivery date. 2 touch focus (eyepiece for the reticle, body for the optical focus). Saving the best for last they showed me the new Predator 4S Riflescope, S standing for short. Just under 11" and when matched with their new clip on C35 Thermal only about 17" long. This will be a popular scope. Great stuff from Steiner for sure. Burris released their new Burris FastFire C Red Dot Reflex Sight designed specifically for sub-compact and micro-compact pistols used in everyday and concealed carry. In the app, select “I don’t have an AX Visio” (Settings – Connectivity) and scan the QR code shown on the master device. No identification is possible in Live View mode. When installing the app, please accept all system prompts (permission for access to photos, location, etc.), otherwise you will not be able to use all the functionalities of the app (for example, no photos can be saved). We recommend always running the updates available in the App Garden of the SWAROVSKI OPTIK Outdoor App. Two different sizes of circle can be selected for identification support (using the arrow button). For a good identification result, it is important to select the size of circle that best captures the entire bird. With Geolocation, the geographic location is factored into the identification process. This always runs automatically in the background if there is an available GPS signal (usually no signal in buildings). Without GPS, just one segment of the circle will be shown in bold in the field of view. As soon as there is a signal, depending on the detection quality, up to 4 segments are shown in bold – the more segments displayed in bold, the higher the probability of a correct result. The number of quarter segments shown with the identification result indicates the reliability of the result – the more segments, the more reliable the result. SHARE DISCOVERIES For most effective use of this function, we recommend approximately the same physical location for observing and transferring. In other words, the second person should not be too far from the observation position (max. 1 meter/3.3 feet). CAMERA AND SAVING IMAGES With its 13 MP sensor (4208 x 3120 px), the AX Visio's integrated camera provides a 4K resolution (1920 x 1080 px) for videos. The internal memory of 8 GB can store around 1,700 photos or 1 hour of video in full quality. Photos can be loaded using the Outdoor App, Merlin Bird ID, or Wildlife ID app. All photos are automatically sent to a special AX Visio folder created in the smartphone memory.
