Facts.. love the unit tho. Pines to low desert MD everywhere in between. Easy country to rugged wilderness. Boats, SxS or lots of boot leather can get you deep in there. Last year I spent an insane amount of time in 22N and I saw very few MD. Mainly coues and not that many either. Elk were plentiful tho, but nothing 🏆

Insanely diverse unit. Really easy to escape the pressure with a little bit of effort. Think far west side of unit, it's harder to access but significantly less pressure.

I'm almost convinced the bigger bucks stay in the flats early season and only get lured out by does in January and December.

DID I JUST POACH A BUCK THANKS TO GOHUNT?
HuntHarder replied to gunthenbow's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Maybe, just my opinion tho. -
As most of us suspected.. More deer were killed than Agfd had originally thought. I remember guys always saying what an accomplishment it was to shoot a deer with a bow. I've never really seen it as a tough task. Now killing an old mature buck, that's an accomplishment. Mandatory reporting across all methods of take is the only path forward. The #'s might be shocking tho...

Poaching is poaching bud... admitting you made a mistake and turning yourself in, is better than getting busted by AGFD. Guy could have easily went a different route and Agfd would be none the wiser. Still should have been a penalty, but I think a little leniency on self reporting isn't a bad thing. Case by case of course. -

Is this the same trphy who could care less that Duwayne Adam's got busted poaching? Some how this guy who turns himself in is more guilty than a man who was busted by Azgfd? I get that you don't think baiting and shooting from a road should be illegal, but they are.. Honest mistake due to lack of not doing due diligence. I think there should have been more of a punishment, but in the end, that is up to the officer. -
Rumor has it a 200" muley was killed on the 500kv powerline rd a few years back.

Why is it odd? Curious why you would not name a processor for everyone to consider. Lots of us hunt in or near Payson and could always use another option for meat processing. Not sure how you took my second question... Let me try and rephrase it so it is not an odd question. Do they want more business, or are they trying to stay with their same workload? I know last time I sent a guy to a processor in Payson, he was already full and could not take any more game. Small operation with a small capacity and not really looking to advertise. Hopefully that helps you understand my thought process.

I mean, as long as you didn't go gunthenbow, seems like they are giving you a huge break by only confiscating it. Any pics of it? -
why not post the name? Very limited on how much they take in each year?
-
For sure, I heard they have a list miles long of guys wanting to sign up to confiscate guns from law abiding citizens. I would imagine great death benefits must be the attraction. 😉

That's alot of driving for 1 shed

So, pro gun/ anti gun control guys, want to take guns away from people they don't think should have guns?

It's been raining off and on since thursday in peoria. Radar shows more tonight and early am tomorrow..

If im pickup camping, I drive the SxS back to pickup each night. If im only going for a couple nights, I can pack my camp and some in my SxS. I have all the backcountry gear for an easy couple day spike out.

It took me a few years to convince myself to buy one. I haven't regretted it once. Like you, I paid cash, so no payments. My advice is get one, try it out for a year or 2. Worst case scenario it costs you a grand or 2 to realize you don't want one. Best case, you explore areas you wouldn't have before and find new honey holes. The last 3 archery bucks I've killed, are in spots I would never have gone before I had my SxS. It's fun outfitting them the way you want to as well. I spent 2-4k on aftermarket upgrades or add-ons. Mine I'd set up pretty good for what I use it for.

huh? They said they were paying Janitors with the money?

I'll chime in. Pulling a trailer doesn't limit you at all. I have never had an issue of getting in and not being able to get out. With a SxS, I rarely drive very far into the woods without unloading the SxS. Why beat your body up in a pickup when a SxS is smooth. As far as prices go, they, like everything else, are extremely high right now. I am not convinced they will drop significantly any time soon. They *should come down, but by how much, it's anyone's guess. The cost of ownership depends on the machine I think. I have a 2018 pioneer 1000-5 I bought new. I have only changed the fluids so far. Knock on wood, it has been bullet proof. Insurance depends on what kind of coverage you want. Full coverage runs about 700$ a year street legal. Less than full coverage can be half that. Depending on your financial situation, I think they are a great tool and have helped me get into some places I would have never attempted in my Pickup.

IMO, you are way off. I wasn't around in the early 80's, but everyone I talk to says there were ALOT more deer. I know for a fact that 12a is a completely different unit than it used to be. Have you seen the tag cuts? Both quality and quantity are far below where they used to be. Sure a big buck or 2 get killed each year, but overall, quality down too.

1 and 27 getting pounded!! Go figure, I always thought a bunch more archery bucks die vs. What agfd thinks. Mandatory reporting for ALL hunts is the key.
-
For steaks, I completely agree. 90% of my big game gets ground up into burger, sausage and Jerky.
-
Poverty steak at that.

My go to, if I'm not using a havalon, is a cold steel pendleton hunter. The knives of Alaska are great too, just don't let them get dull. D2 tool steel is really hard and even harder to put a new edge on, in the field.
