Love my Kifaru DT3 with grab-it 2. Pack out ability is amazing. I was able to haul more meat this last elk hunt than ever before. 2 front quarters and meat with ease. First and only pack I am able to comfortable pack out 75+ pounds. Very durable pack, great customer service and made in the USA. Can not beat it. When you get a pack to custom fit your body, you will be amazed at the difference.

Swarovski anything usually does pretty good. Outdoorsman's tripods and backpacks also usually have big interest. G7 rangefinder would be great. Yetti ice chests or Canyon coolers. If you are looking at guns, Benelli semi-auto shotguns always have big interest. A custom rifle by gunwerks or one of the other big name guys in long range shooting. Just a few ideas I had.

Firstcoueswas80- I am a little skeptical of using a VLD too. Over the last 6 years, I have helped harvest 15 bulls on the late hunt, and all were shot with the VLD. We have not lost a bull yet, and I hope our luck continues this year. I built my gun this year, and it loves these 185 gr VLDs. I originally started with barnes TTSX, but my gun despised them!! On paper, my mind tells me that hollow points and rapid expansion does not = a good elk round. My experience and many others, tells me differently. One of the bulls from last year, literally had no blood trail from 500 yard shot. The bull only made it 40 yards, but has an absolute MESS inside. 2 years ago, 2 of the 3 bulls shot were front shoulder shots, and both fell over, like a ton of bricks hit them. If I recall right, one was 200 yards and one was 450. 200 yard shot was a 30-06 shooting 168 gr berger and the 450 yard shot was a 300 rum shooting the 210 pills.

Question on Match Grade and Ballistic Tip (Accuracy)
HuntHarder replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Long Range Shooting
Yeah, it was not a battle. I would not choose to go to battle against Lance on long range shooting/ hunting. He really seems to know his stuff, and has lots more experience than I do. It was merely a difference of opinions and that is what makes these forums great. -
Question on Match Grade and Ballistic Tip (Accuracy)
HuntHarder replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Long Range Shooting
Yeah, no doubt they will kill animals, just not the preferred tool for the job. Same principal of why FMJ ammo designed for military use is not legal for hunting or why LEO's carry hollow points instead of match target ammo. All will get the job done, if the shooter does theirs'. I did notice in your picture of that nice muley, you say you used Berger VLD hunting. Nice Buck! The thicker jackets on match bullets are just not ideal for hunting in my opinion. -
Question on Match Grade and Ballistic Tip (Accuracy)
HuntHarder replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Long Range Shooting
First time I think I have disagreed with something Lancetkenyon has said. I would never use a match bullet for hunting. Berger does not recommend it, nor does most any other manufacturer. Reason is, they do not expand like a hunting bullet. Sure if you hit an animal in the lungs and or heart, it will die quick, but in the event you do not, the damage will be minimal. I do not like to plan for a bad shot, but in all reality, it happens, and you should take steps to ensure a humane kill. The Berger VLD hunting bullets are great, and IMO shoot very close to their non hunting versions. HSM loads them commercially, and I have heard nothing good about them. Another option is to see if one of the reloaders on here is willing to help you get started in reloading. Huge advantage when you start shooting long range. -

WTB Barnes Spit Fire T-EZ Bullets 250G
HuntHarder replied to desertstalker's topic in Classified Ads
I have a new unopened pack of 15. Barnes 50 cal .451" 250 gr T-EZ FB. I would sell them. I am in North Peoria. PM me if interested -
I prefer straight. I only use my scope to determine the size/ sex of my found animal. It is quick and easy to take your bino's off of the tripod and put the straight scope on and still be close to on target. With an angled, you will have to adjust your tripod lower. It is all preference. I also think the straight scopes pack easier in long pockets. Looking downhill with an angled scope can be tricky as well. Some angled scopes allow you to turn it, and this helps.

Having never have shot an Elk, I would be looking for balls!! Do not get caught up in the size of the horns until you have a few under your belt. Good luck, and lets hope for some snow!!

Phew.. I thought I was the only one who did not like the taste of the Vortex kool-aid. Having a fantastic warranty is great!!!, problem is, you WILL have to use it. Let's just hope it is not during a hunt of a lifetime.

LOL. I guess I am late to the party

I will second the Kuiu. I have used the crooked horn harness for years. I recently switched to the Kuiu, and ohh what a difference. Keeps the binos tight to the chest and gives you the option of using the cover or no cover. highly recommend this system.
