You can find coues deer both close and far from the road, but I think its more important to get away from the other hunters, which is as far away from the roads as possible. I think thats the key IMO

I usually don't see any real activity until the first couple weeks in january.

The over the counter bow tags are the best and hardest in my opinion. You won't find nearly as many hunters but you have to be one sneaky SOB to get close enough for a shot, although there are a few hunters on this site that have done it. Hunting coues with a bow is probably one of the hardest hunts you'll ever do.

Get the leupolds, with the 50mm obj. you'll be happy you did. I have the VXIII and I couldn't be happier. ( Unless I had swarovski)

I can't believe people are actually proud of shooting a little boo boo.I've passed up on two little guys in the same canyon and this past weekend I'm almost certain I found one of them again but this time it was close to 400 lbs! He came about 800 from where I was and was coming right where I knew he would but it got too dark to shoot. Didn't see him the rest of the hunt.

I have an API and I absolutely love it. I've had it for about 4 years now and it is so comfortable that I've actually nodded off a few times in freezing cold weather. It's a climber and it weighs about 20 lbs. It's a little awkward to carry in( The straps are uncomfortable and make carrying the stand difficult). But overall its an awesome deal. I think I picked it up for about 250.00 from Cabelas
