mikep35 replied to creed_az_88's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Were those last two pics on Mount Ord? I was just up there a couple of weeks ago and it was snowing good. I have a pig tag for 22 and I'll be up there in 2 weeks. -

I was just up on Ord this weekend. I talked to a couple hunters who said there are alot of deer in there and one of the guy's Dad just killed a 120 incher! I've also seen lots of coues in the foothills of Ord.I'll be up there in Jan. for my pig hunt.

I've been told that the best time is after Christmas as well. That's when the rut is at it's peak. The end of December. That's when I killed my first and only coues a couple years ago. Dec. 27 to be exact. And it was in a light snow.

how much are coues like easterns?
mikep35 replied to EagleEye's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
If you're hunting in the type of terrain that is difficult to glass , ponderosa pine, forest, etc., then looking for sign, scrapes and rubs will be a good bet. My suggestion would be a trail camera. If you can glass the area, then buy a good pair of binos, and glass, glass, glass. And when you get tired of glassing, glass some more. Mask your scent the best you can. These little deer are as wary as any animal you will hunt. There's a reason why most people on this site are obsessed with these creatures( myself included) -
When I read that you let him go, I threw up in my mouth a little bit. I would give a limb or two to get a shot at a mountain lion!

I have a pair of Cabelas boots that I've used consistently for 4 years! They're the only hunting boots I own! I've had them resoled once. They are the best. I can't say enough about them.

Thanks guys, I've been going there for the past 15 years, but I couldn't believe it when I got there a couple of weeks ago and it was closed. I shot my first quail back in there when I was 12.

I was just up at Bushnell Tanks and the road was closed. I haven't been there in a few years. Anyone know why it's closed? Is it permanent?

I'll be in unit 22 doing some last minute scouting on Sunday, then back in January for my pig/deer hunt. Git 'em boys!

My first rifle was a ruger 22.My first deer rifle was a savage 30/06. The first gun I ever purchased is my baby. A 25/06 ruger m77 MarkII. Which happens to be what I killed my first coues with!

My advice would be to go on az g&f website and get some ideas where to hunt, and then buy a topo map from wide world of maps of the area you choose and then glass, glass, glass. Then glass some more. I have friends that hunt 36C and I'll get some general ideas for you.
