Good morning! While coaching first base last night I was alerted by my phone to two emails. My son drew youth 27 hunt!!!! I drew Burrow 2nd hunt!!! Been putting in for those hunts for a long time!! Finally scored. Scouting begins today:) Any advice from you guys would be great. Ive hunted 27 2 times so I kind of have an idea where to start. The burros on the other hand are a different story. Never hunted the area but have driven through the country. Howd the rest of you do?? Going to be a great Friday!!!

Cabelas says they dont have the part. pretty lame really. thanks!! jake

Good morning...one thing I started doing years ago was documenting our hunts. Its really great to look back at the experiences we have shared as a family. Ill try and post the hunting pics as well. Have a great Friday and weekend people!!!!! jake September 3, 4: Opening to the 20011/2012 hunting season began with a muzzleloader antelope hunt for Zach on McGregor range. He got the golden ticket as there were only 20 available for hunt. After two days of hard hunting we were able to put a stalk on this buck. He was with 14 doe at the time. After 1 mile of cat and mouse we lost the animal. Zach thought we should try to our south west and after 100 yards of still hunting we spotted the group. We belly crawled it for about 60 yards and got set up. The buck was 126 yards out. Zach got set up on the shooting sticks…took a deep breath and BOOM! Dust flew everywhere. The does took off running right to left and stopped on a hill about 200 yards from us. The buck took off after the doe. I asked Zach if he thought he got it and he said yes…..!!! The shot felt good. I reloaded the rifle and gave it back to Zach and he set up on the buck who actually had ran quartering to us and stopped below the doe. He started to rock back and forth and fell over. What a great shot!! Double lung. This was a great ending to a hunt that proved to be challenging due to the drought conditions. We were the last group to check out of the hunt and in the end Zach took the largest antelope of the hunt. 15.5 inch goat. Really great experience to say the least.

For those of you lucky enough to draw an antelope tag this year. Heres a pic of the antelope Zach got with muzzleloader last year. Major taxidermy did the work. Came out really nice. This was a buck we found the last afternoon of the hunt. He was hangin with 14 does. Made a nice shot on him (126 yards)after a long stock. The boy is hooked now. Jake

I want to thank evyone for their advice. All makes sense. After much thought and that look from my wife I have decided to not put Zach in for Az. This year. Our hands our full with NM coues tags and I want to spend lots of time scouting these new areas. Thanks again and best of luck to you and your draws!! I will get his point though:) Jake

Good morning, Im looking at putting my son in for a hunt in AZ. I started getting points for him this year for elk and thought i would do the same for deer. The only differance is I would like to put him in for a hunt. After reading some articles it became clear that I need to know about point system in order to have a chance at drawing a good hunt for him. I was looking at the strip area but it was recomended that with no points it pointless:) to put in for these hunts. I would really like to get him in on a dec hunt for coues. Is it worth putting him in if he doesnt have points built up for decemnber hunts. I grew up hunting the 36 units but havnt been there in 20+ years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! jake

Great job Dad!! Memories forever. My son used the same shotgun for years on many hunts. Jake

Hey Lee, Just responded to your reply. Thanks for the help!! I still think ill put him in for AZ. Didnt draw elk so I will have some gas money left:) Thanks, jake Congrats to you and your son. I have never had the pleasure of hunting NM so I'm not much help there. Didn't I reply to your thread about putting your son in for an AZ deer hunt yesterday? If so, is the AZ hunt on hold now? Lee

I saw those oct hunts but im hancuffed. Ecause i coach football. Usually finsh mid nov so dec would work best for us. He will actually be playing for me next year. With the dec hunts do the out of staters with points get those tags? Leaving him with no chance? We could probably make nov work. Thanks

Most Excellent!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!! -
Found out this morning I scored a unit 27 Coues tag!!! Second hunt. Hunted it years ago before the draw. Havnt been successful in drawing since. The area I hunted back in the day is supposadly closed off by a rancher. I hunt the very south eastern end of the range. Anybody have any insight into accsses in the unit now? How about illigal activity in the area? Want to take the family down scouting and camping but dont want to run into illigals etc. Thanks, jake

Just got mine last week from cameraland and used them on a javelina hunt!! Man are they awesome. Glassed up a herd about a mile away...made the stock and took a nice boar at 32 yards with my recurve. I was wondering if the swaro binocular lens covers would work???? The ones they sent are pretty pathetic and will not stay on the ends. Any advice from you guys would be great. Thanks, Jake
