Hey Guys, I've got a question about beanies. When I make the treck up to my glassing spots I sweat like crazy. I end up having to change headgear and shirts due to how much I perspire. Guess I have a good cooling system. Anyway.... I was wondering if there is a beanie or stocking cap on the market, that while hiking really does get rid of moisture. It would be nice to hike and still keep the heat in. Thanks, for any advice, Jake

Hey guys, my son drew the youth hunt for unit 24 here in NM. He can take either a coues or mule deer. I assure you he is not picky but would like to get him on his first coues. Been very busy with football and baseball so haven't scouted yet but plan on hitting it hard next couple weeks. If you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated. We are hikers and love to set up tripods and glass so hummping it into deeper areas is an option. Im sure he can outhike me now. Dang kid is growing like a weed. Already taller!! I got my son the savage 7mm-08 with accutrigger when he started hunting at 9. Its been a great rifle with very little recoil. I put on a limbsaver pad and its like shooting a bb gun. Very accurate. Hes taken elk, oryx, deer, javalina with it. Hes now 16 and still uses it. I have taken it on coues hunts for the weight alone. Very light. Best of luck!! Jake

Hey Guys, We scored. Zach had 1 day to get it done. We were able to get out on Sunday. This would be the only day we could make it happen with his busy schedule. Very happy for him. I was determined to find him a coues and we were in some country that I know should hold coues. The habitat is amazing right now. After 3 hours of glassing and still hunting we found this buck with a doe deep in a shaded canyon. After a bit of sneaking and getting set up, Zach put a shot just over 300 yards with his 7mm-08. The excitement in his voice was awesome!!! Thank you for your help. I hope to post a pic after my hunt in Nov:) Good luck to everyone on your upcoming hunts!! Jake

My son used a 7mm-08 savage. He killed javalina,deer, Oryx and elk with it. Great round and very little recoil. I would stay away from 30-06. Recoil will be a factor in IMHO. Have fun and good luck! He still uses the same rifle for deer every year.

GET A GUIDE!!!!!!!!!! It will save you a bunch of heart ache and will help you in all aspects of the sport. Especially knowing where to fish and what to use. DONT COUNT ON A FLY SHOP!!! They are there to sell flies. Even if they are honest you have to know how to use them and where to go. Biggest mistake I ever made was fishing the San Juan without a lesson. I fly fished for many years but had no idea how to fish that river. I got a guide the next year and now am hammering fish all the time. GET A GUIDE!!!!!!!!!! Im telling you its the way to go. Have a blast!!!!
