    License to apply

They did this to try and stop the people (mostly NR's) who can squeeze 3 application cycles out of one license (elk, deer and elk again). Depending how the calendar works each year they may still be able to until the calendar falls back a week. Many NR's are waiting to apply on last day Tuesday the 4th and buy a new license then. Then their plan is to hope and pray G&F site holds up and doesn't crash. I'm in already so I don't have to worry about it. Good luck to all those that apply.

    Rut In January 2025

Hard to believe but there was a time every time you drove around in those units you saw bucks like this. And it wasn't just during the rut. The Az elk population Boom of 80's - 90's, trapping ban in early 90's, and drought that began around 2000 has been the demise of mule deer IMO.

    Crossbow permit repeal

I think you need to stop and look at the data and statistics to know that the crossbow permitting system was clearly being abused. Crossbow permit holders are taking a disproportionate number of deer and thus reducing opportunity for bowhunters. Your argument is based off emotion and not rational thought.

I hope all those in favor of stopping this legislation are writing/calling their state representatives. You got to do more than just post here.

    Crossbow permit repeal

CHAMP permit was created for those people who are so severely disabled that they need to hunt and shoot from a vehicle.

    Landowner Tags

Not in favor of this as it is written. Says nothing about if landowner has to agree to allow public hunting on their land if they accept a LO Tag. That should be a must. LO elk tags should be for cow only. It has been agreed upon by the courts, the wildlife belongs to the state no matter where they reside.

    This will be abused too.

    Rut activity

A friend who lives in central AZ and sees deer from his house nearly every day said he just noticed bucks chasing does around this week. No big bucks yet but he is finally seeing evidence of a rut. He normally starts to see some action the week between Christmas and new year.

    2025 Wyoming Antelope Hunt

I'm not sure if I am the best person to respond to your question. I have only had one experience hunting Wyoming archery antelope back in 2011. I flew into Salt Lake Friday evening, rented a car and drove a few hours to a unit in the sw part or Wyoming. I had 6 points when I applied with a guy from Utah. We talked for a 2-3 years on Bowsite and he told me he could help me get my first antelope with a bow and arrow. The guy was 73-year-old William "Bill" Allard (BB from bowsite) who grew up in SW part of Wyoming. I rolled into camp around 10:30 pm, met his son Cody, and talked a bit. We got up next morning drove to a spring in the dark that he put a ground blind on. From the blind I saw a total of two antelope and the 2nd one was a buck that came into the spring around 10:00 am and I shot it at 17 yards. Driving back to camp I saw maybe 10-12 antelope. That evening we drove around and checked on some other places he had blinds at, and I saw maybe 8-9 more antelope. The next morning, he wanted to take pictures (he is an amazing wildlife photographer) and we sat in a blind that we checked out the day before. It was crazy fun because the rut was on full bore and the bucks were chasing other bucks and does all around. This was probably the best part of the entire hunt just being able to witness the craziness of an antelope rut. Sitting in a blind and driving around I probably saw no more than 50-60 antelope, but it was a great show. I hunted with a bow and arrow even though it was a rifle hunt. I killed my buck on Oct. 1st and the weather was perfect for hunting out of a blind. Not the real hot stuff of August. According to BB, the last week or so of September is the best time to hunt antelope in the rut. Flew back home on Monday morning. If and when I hunt Wyoming again, it will be during their rut.

Good luck trying to get them to answer their phone. Took me almost 3 weeks to get hold of someone. Their website is last year's information and does not reflect 2025 information.

    2025 Wyoming Antelope Hunt

I'm sitting at 12 antelope, 17 deer and 17 Wyoming elk points. Will probably start using them in the next 2-3 years. Antelope and elk archery only and deer I am undecided.

Petition To Prohibit Hound Hunting In Arizona

Story on ch-12 news last night: AZ conservation groups petition to ban dog hunting for some animals | 12news.com 1st I find it Ironic that newscaster call CBD a conservationist group. No, they are an anti-hunting group. 2nd It's odd that CBD main argument why we need to ban hunting with dogs is because of the GPS systems on dogs is unfair and has adverse effects on wildlife. If that's their argument, then why not just petition G&F to get the use of this technology banned? At least debate that issue. I think we all know that is not the real reason. All hunters need to ban together and stop this. Reach out to all your hunting and non-hunting friends and family.

    How bout them Devils!

I'm a Sun Devil but even I know Dillingham is an idiot. That guy almost single handedly lost that game yesterday. Same with the k-state game. His play calling and clock management is atrocious. He was screaming and crying like a little B at end of game and the entire problem was due to his poor decision making. The devils won both these games because of turnovers in first half and were able to get big leads even though they disappear in the 2nd half. Never been a fan of rah, rah type coaches who run up and down the sideline. When he went after his own kicker on national TV that was a classless act and exposed him for who he really is. Imagine if you sent your kid to a school/program and the coach goes on national TV and attacks him or her. Zero class and no self-control. I guess you can tell I'm no Dillingham fan.

    Spring Tags?

As long as they keep it so we have a choice between paper and E-tag I'm happy. Something tells me they will be getting rid of paper soon. Kind of like the transition from applying online or by paper envelopes. I think it was only this way for 3 years or so then they made everyone go to online applications.

Young Man Training- Want to rope a calf

My father was a horse trainer, and I grew up around horses and cattle. I showed horses and team roped when I was younger. The boys need to learn to swing a rope and ride a horse before they can rope from one. Everybody is different but my father would not let me rope from a horse until I could beat him on the ground. My recommendation would be to buy each kid a rope, a steer dummy and practice. If you do this, I could at least teach them how to swing a rope and catch a dummy consistently. Sorry, sold the horses many years ago. Good Luck I would like to tag along on that prospecting deal. Something I have always wanted to learn.

    where are you located?
  23. Looks like an early Christmas present. Now, if elected officials can work together and get chit done these next four years, we might be able to right this ship for the foreseeable future.

    What keeps you from going?

The how do you camp thread made me start to think about other related things. As I get older, I still have the heart and desire to get out there in the woods and hunt, camp or fish but I find myself going less and less even though I have more time now than I ever have. Talking with other people around my age we have decided the getting packed up to go, setting up camp, tearing down and then putting everything away at home is to too much of a pain. It seems it's too easy to just stay at home and not go. Anyone else feel like this or am I just being a Big ol' Wus?
