    That time again

Well, like the old saying goes "If you want to play you have to pay" or maybe you prefer "To whom much is given, much is expected". Whatever motivates you, it's time to ante up and make a donation for wildlife. Donation to AES | AES General Store (shopaes.org) Thanks for making a tax deductible contribution and supporting Arizona's wildlife.

I misunderstood this. I thought you meant not hunt all the first nine days of season.

    6A early archery bull timing

When drawn, I will usually take opening day off, Saturday and Sunday. Go back to work on Monday, head back up Friday after work and hunt Saturday, Sunday and I usually try to take Monday & Tuesday of last week. Always had to make a deal with principal if I got one early to come back the next day. In 26 years of teaching I took a week off one time for a hunt. I ended up getting kidney stones and spent my first day in flagstaff hospital. I never came home but I had some excruciating pain from time to time. I finally passed the stones on a Thursday morning out in the field. Not fun. Teacher friends Joked & told me that is what I get for taking an entire week off. I wish I had a job where it was possible take an entire season off but I don't. I know guys who can take entire hunts off and they don't. That is even harder for me to understand. We get discretionary days we can use but it is really hard to be away from my classes and students. I try to limit taking consecutive days off. I'm not complaining as I knew what I got into when I started years ago. Sorry for hijacking thread.

Heading out tomorrow for my first time to ever fish this. Been wanting to do this for about 40 years.

    6A early archery bull timing

I had a 6a antelope tag two years ago so I set out some cameras along some travel corridors where I had seen antelope in the past. I learned a lot. First thing I noticed was the antelope in the unit are very nomadic. You go weeks without getting the same buck on camera. I also learned they traveled a lot at night from 11:00 pm to 3:30 am. The other thing I learned was only one calf elk showed up on any camera before June 12th. I think the image was from June 3rd? Beginning on June 12th and there after, newborn calves everywhere. This wasn't just on one camera in a one area. I had camera's from cedar flats north to Flagstaff. I don't know if this is normal but it seems like once a few started calving they all started calving.

    PointGuard Plus - Priority positioning?

This entire plus plan would be an easier pill to swallow if it improved hunting even a tiny little bit.

    Boston, New York, DC

My wife has an apartment in Manhattan due to work. We took the Amtrack from NYC to Boston last summer over the 4th of July weekend. Really liked Boston. Lots of history and the city is very clean. The duck tours are great and went to a red sox game at Fenway which was pretty cool. I can confirm that Red Sox fans like to drink. NYC on the other hand is dirty, smells and the sidewalks are slippery from the trash they throw out every day on sidewalks. Definitely some shady areas. If you like to people watch NYC is a great place to go. Lots of "unique" people for sure. Ellis Island was my favorite place but AZ is home for me. Enjoy your trip.

    Black River

I plan on heading up in the next week or so. I have hunted spring turkey on San Carlos quite a few times but this will be my first ever fishing trip. I have a few questions: Does anyone have any recent fishing and water level reports? The way I read the current regulations, propane stoves & lanterns are ok but no camp fires. Correct? Fishing license for the black is $20 per day plus a $5 habitat stamp? Since I have fishing license I do not have to buy daily camping permit? In case of confrontation with bears, do you recommend carrying a hand gun? Any secret fishing tips or lures? PM's are welcome and I know how to keep secrets. I have Jeffrey Epstein's client list and my lips are sealed. Thanks to all that reply.

    Pointguard Plus

Point guard was fine the way it was for the $5. This is an accounting policy pure and simple. The department is trying to get the money up front so they can better plan and budget for the future. If they notice a shortfall they can sell some more of those special tags they started selling last year. I'm telling you our G&F dept leads the way in figuring out how to make make money from hunters without ever improving hunting, habitat, or wildlife numbers.
  13. Guys who may not have hunted much or at all in August/Sept due to the heat or prefer the rut hunt will now hunt earlier. They will hunt earlier because they know their favorite Dec/January hunts may not even occur because the quota has been met already. More guys hunting in August/Sept probably means even more units will meet quota & close sooner. I am happy that the dept has worked with the archery community on a solution but there may be some flaws in new rules and they may have to be readdressed in a few years after there is some actual data. At least there is a start. Now we just need to come up with a realistic plan to limit non-residents to no more than 10% of otc tags per unit and get crossbows our of the archery hunts. Muzzy and crossbow seasons should be together IMO.

Kentucky man takes a white Turkey

I've seen an albino turkey hen in unit 27 on an elk hunt. Would come in every late afternoon to a tank I was sitting and eat the bugs off the tall grass around the water. The turkey I saw was not nearly as white as these birds. She was more of a yellowish white.

    This day in history...

There is a rumor that the reason why it takes a sharp angle NW towards Yuma is because one of the men on the survey crew got very sick and the closest doctor was in Yuma. The original plan was to head straight west because the US wanted another Port. Rocky point would have been part of the US and probably AZ. Not sure if it is true but read about this many years ago and college professor told a similar story.

    Aussiedoodle pups

My daughter has a 5 month old. I'll admit it is the cutest and coolest dog. Yes, every time I am around it I talk in one of those blabbering baby voices and I can't help it. Great personalities. I have mostly had healers over my lifetime and they are great dogs but I would consider one of these Aussiedoodles.

Youth turkey hunt - update and pics

A friend who lives in Springerville was out in unit 1 this morning and said he saw about 13 hens and 7 toms. Only heard one gobble all morning. Love spring turkey when they are talking. Good luck

I don't know what he scores but as an archer, that is a shooter every day of the season for me.

    Suggestion for 6A Archery

Very difficult to get away from people on that hunt. I would say 2/3 of hunters are north of Stoneman lake rd and 1/3 south of it. There are elk throughout the entire unit. One year my son had the hunt and on the 2nd Sunday morning we counted 19 different hunters/helpers in the field before 7:00 am. Good Luck

    Feral Horses Black River

This is not a time to be silent. All people who enjoy our national forests need to be writing and calling for the removal of feral horses from all our national forests. I guarantee the other side is.
