My son had the 12a west early hunt this year. He was able to get his first buck ever on opening morning. We hunted the burn area and I have never experienced so many hunters in a relatively small area before. Multiple vehicles with multiple hunters on every ridge did not really make for a quality experience. The deer were on top or the mid range and had not moved down to lower country yet. We went varmint calling out near slide and there was practically no deer sign at all and there was zero sign of the rut from what we could see. If we ever draw the early hunt again we will not hunt the burn again. Way too many hunters and trying to pack out out a deer from all that dead fall was killer. The Kaibab is a special place for sure and I wish all the late hunters good luck.

It's been a couple years but I drew first choice turkey, HAM javelina & archery bear.

For those of us that have been alive and hunting deer since 70's know the deer populations really took a nose dive when they banned trapping around 91 or 92. There was once a time when you could go to any unit that holds elk in this state and see way more deer than elk. As a matter of fact it wasn't even close. Those trappers kept the lions and coyotes in serious check. I buy a tag every year and in 40 years I have seen a total of two lions. One in 33 three years ago and one in 6a this past September. Still waiting for my first shot opportunity.

The state legislature would have to change our banking/finance laws in order for your hope of paying up front ever to happen. It is not a g&F issue. I also doubt G&F has any desire to do anything that will possibly reduce the number of people that apply for hunts. They have salaries to pay and bills to pay and at $13 a pop it would definitely affect their bottom line. They make way more money off of application fees than tag fees. I also agree with what has been said above. The old way was easier. Why can't we log in once and then select all the hunts we want all at once? Too much repetition IMO.

just curious but did you have your blind cable locked up? I lock my blind up when I leave it out but it would not be too difficult to get around the lock. Have not had a blind stolen but I have had some cameras taken. I look forward to the day when we are able to start getting pics or the perps.

sounds like fun but many of those birds I have never even witnessed before. Wouldn't even know where to begin to look. -

I hope this does not come down to a vote where 500 people support one thing and 50 support another and that is how they choose what method to follow. This is not a ballot issue but a chance for people to offer suggestions and bring up concerns. I hope the committee takes ALL suggestions under consideration and selects the best one based on sustainability, least impact on hunters/fishermen and meets the monetary goal that has been suggested. The best decisions are not always the most popular. I am also concerned about creating another form of bureaucracy. What percentage of the money is going to go to hiring more staff that includes wages, matching funds, insurance, retirement and a new 3/4 ton 4X4 PU? Has anybody noticed any difference in curbing ATV/UTV abuse since we had to start buying the $25 stamp 12 or so years ago? I haven't. I do see colorful brochures and pictures on the website but that is about it. If this is the same kind of thing we are looking at for educating the public then I want no part of it and I would just as soon as sell a few tags to rich folks and let them pay for it. -

A Fly in spot n stalk archery bear hunt and a lake (with no mosquitos) all to our selves to fish afterwards. An Alaska archery moose hunt sounds pretty cool too but I think I would rather count coup on him instead.
