Looking for some help with unit 20a rifle mule deer hunt
knothead replied to Jesse's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
I used to hunt up on Big Bug all the time starting in late 70's and stopped in early 90's. It was just too crazy with bow hunters but there were some deer in there. When I first started going there it was not uncommon to see 20-30 bucks a day. It was the only place I ever hunted where I would see more bucks than does. There used to be an albino doe running around I would see from time to time. We never saw anything weird up there that I can ever recall. I once found an old rifle (really old rifle) with the wood mostly rotted away. I got tired of carrying it so I put near a road and put a little marker so I could come back that evening and get it. I never could find it again. Not in 20A but in 20B there was a commune type place in between bumble bee and crown king that used to do some animal sacrifices. I never saw it but stickflicker and another buddy found it and really scared them. This was back in the 80's. There were even some wild goats running around and I think they got a couple with archery equipment. -
Congratulations. Two of my friends drew the same hunt. I think they averaged out to 5 points. Fun hunt.

I believe you got 193 because that was the person who was declined. You were next in line and got that persons tag. Congratulations

If I listen to music I prefer 70's & 80's classic rock, When I want to hear country, I prefer Gary Allan. Most of the time I turn everything off and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Too bad. This was always my favorite shoot. Planned on going this year but had to cancel at last minute. At least we still have the Mormon lake shoot in a couple weeks.

It has been rumored for years that anti-hunters have been buying tags. This was a common theme back in the day when you didn't have to buy a license in order to apply. Not saying that it doesn't occur but I have never seen evidence that it is true. I believe most antis are like hunters. Most just talk and don't put their money where their mouth is. I know some very hard core hunters who are not part of any hunting or conservation groups because they are too cheap to drop the $30-$50 annual fees. I would imagine antis are the same way. Another rumor and one I happen to believe, is game & fish has many anti-hunters on their payroll. The non-game branch folks are a whole different breed than the big game branch folks. It would be interesting to find out how many of the wolf, ferret, condor and hump back chub folks applied for deer in this past AZ draw. During the hiring process it would be nice if they did a back ground check to see how many hunting and fishing licenses they have purchased over the years before they make the decision to hire them. Congratulations and good luck to all the HUNTERS that drew this year. Oh well.............. I guess this is how we spend our time during the hot time of year.

Not sure what everyone else's camp fire is like but we talk politics all the time around ours. We also fart out loud, burp, cuss and talk about women in a not so PC way. You mean to tell me we have been doing it wrong all these years?

My card has always been hit at the very beginning when they are first reported. I have no charges so I have already begun to feel sorry for myself and then I will start looking for someone to blame. A friend said I should call my local ACLU office because G&F has violated my right to hunt deer in 12a west during November.

Don't tell anyone else but go to 3rd Mesa. I guarantee you will find what you are looking for.

Been away for a little while. Is this 168,000 more applicants true and where did you get the information?

So thankful that me or my friends never feel the need to post everything on social media. A friend of mine who is a High School coach tells me all the time that rules are put in place to use them to your advantage.

knothead replied to Hunterbrett's topic in Classified Ads
I am the only owner of an original T5 that I will take $500 for. Used less than 5 times, in excellent condition and always kept in my garage. Comes with carry bag and extra screen meshing. North Peoria -
G&F shut down unit 19B antelope 7 or 8 years back. This was not due to fire or anything but more to do with access being locked up by landowners if I remember correctly. They have since drastically reduced the number of tags they issue.

Check out all the school districts through out the valley. Most if not all are hiring. I was just told yesterday from a friend of mine at Fed Ex that they are always hiring and can't keep people. Check out the new desert diamond casino as well by Cabelas. On the bright side, if there was ever a good time to be looking for a job, now is it. Lots of work available for people who are willing to work. Good Luck!

If you had one brand choice for AZ camo set ( pants+ shirt) which would you pick?
knothead replied to Gut Pile's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Not sure camo makes all that much difference. I will admit I have not jumped into "high end" camo pool because Kings camo has served me very well. To the human eye, the stuff that blends in the most to the surroundings is larger pattern stuff with a good mixture of light and dark colors. Leafy wear works really well too. -
I love road hunters. Less guys in the woods with me. I'm way more disappointed to find people in the woods hunting where I am at.

Dave, I'm the opposite of a hater. I have always admired your ability to find good deals and squeeze a penny. The jeep you bought for Kayla comes to mind. Someday, I plan on buying a toy hauler and when I begin looking I am going to call you and put you on the scent because I know if anyone can find a good deal it is you.

Stuff like this reminds me of a story my mother-in-law told me about her sister many years ago. After coming home from grocery shopping, my MIL noticed her sister had 40 or 50 cans of cat food. When my MIL inquired why she had bought so many cans her sister said because they were on sale 10 cans for $1. My MIL reminded her that she did not have a cat but her sister said the deal was so good she could not pass it up. I'll admit I got caught up in the moment and signed up but all it will do is make me spend $ I had not planned on spending. Notags is a shopping DIVA and if there is a good deal to be had he is the man to find out. I have no doubt if you read the credits for Donald Trumps book "The art of a Deal" you would see the name Dave Owens. Thanks for the Info Kevin

As a 24 year public school educator, I can assure you that is not what we are teaching at my school. It may be what you are reading about and some people may actually be living out these life styles but it is not what I teach or would ever teach. IMO the problems with today's youth start at home and not at school. I commend you and your sister for playing an instrumental role in raising your nieces.

Bullies of the range! Well written!
knothead replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in The Campfire
The problem needs to be dealt with sooner or later. It is only getting worse. I will admit, when I first read this title, I thought it was going to be about the Ben Avery range masters. -
+1 for Mike Vaccaro at Head of the Game. Has done an antelope, javelina and a couple european mule deer. I have found everything already mentioned about him to be true.

Headed up Friday afternoon for the SC hunt. Hoping this weather front kind of kicks them in gear. Nothing like the sound of Gobbles on a cool spring morning.
