    Wasn’t the guns after all

I fall into the old fart age group. Early 80's for me. It was a great time to be young.

I attended Peoria High and we used to take our shotguns to school and go dove hunting with our baseball coach who also taught government. Normal stuff back then and nobody thought twice about it.

    Woods Canyon Lake

Will probably only get worse as the AZ population grows. Future models are showing a growth of 1 million people just in the valley by 2030. For many, what we have now will be their "good ol' days". Have fun wherever you go.

    Sold. Samurai

A friend had one back in the late 80's and he would get about 2 feet from the back of an 18 wheeler going up I-17 and just take his foot off the gas and draft. Scared the crap out of me. Beat the heck out me just driving on dirt roads. Funny how times change. When he had his everyone used to laugh at him and make fun of it. Now they are in high demand.

    5b Turkey

I like to hunt areas with lots of good ridges/canyons and oak trees. During the middle of day I find them on benches or semi open areas. A tom without hens will find an area he likes and just strut around for much of the day trying to attract the ladies. If you find an area with wing drag marks next to his tracks on the ground, stop and call because he is probably nearby. You can hunt turkeys all day long so don't give up. As a matter of fact, many veteran turkey hunters prefer the time between 9:00 & 2:00 pm. The birds might not talk as much in the middle of the day so don't be too aggressive with your calling. Good Luck and report back after your hunt.

Dang......... I wish some of you guys lived in the west valley. Been in AZ for 56 years and grew up in south Scottsdale. I have been to Queen Creek 3 times. Last time was about 1986. I would be interested in one of the pads.

    New Mexico draw results

Dave, I give credit to much of my good luck because I was able to survive living next to Shonie for all those years. That and the fact that I hang around people better than myself. Good luck on your Kaibab turkey hunt. You and the Gatman are like two peas in pod. He is like your mini-me.

    New Mexico draw results

This was my first time applying for NM since I lived there 29 years ago. I only applied for elk once in a lifetime hunts on Valle Caldera and Valle Vidal. I got my 2nd choice which was once in a life time Valle Vidal Muzzy elk Oct. 10-14. A total of 20 permits issued. First time I have ever even applied for an elk gun hunt. Still hasn't sunk in how blessed and fortunate I have been in the draws this year.

    Big bird down youth hunter

Heck! You guys didn't even have time to set up camp yet. I have a friend with luck like that. Spring turkey is the most fun hunt with parents and kids IMO. Congratulations to you and your boy.

    Financing travel trailer.

I have wanted to buy a toy hauler for about 15 years but could never pull the trigger for one reason or another. I almost bought notags trailer when he was upgrading but we were in the process of building a new house. Now I have the money but I have done the math as well. For my situation, it is better to rent a couple times a year than to buy. I still sleep well in my kodiak canvas tent when it's just me or with the boys. When wife or girls want to go, I can rent. Perhaps, when I retire I may change my mind? Matter or fact, if anyone in the show low area has a travel trailer they would like to rent for a week or 10 days at end of May or first part of June let me know. Nothing real big or fancy as it will most likely be just be me and the wife. We want to camp along east fork of black river or big lake. John 623-680-4458

I hate to say it but things are changing and they will change even faster over next 10-15 years(probably sooner). Study history and you will see the same thing when we went from horse and buggy to automobile about 115 years ago. There were a lot of naysayers back then too. Auto companies are investing more of their money in alternative fuel vehicles and less in the internal combustion engine. The big push will come when they make a truck that is close to what we have now. Millenials & Gen Z's really love their Green stuff. This demographic is Waaay different than the generations before and they have no patience for the boomers. Things never go backwards.

    Unit 27

I have never hunted spring turkey in 27 before but I spend time there every year usually in late May or early June. I can honestly say I can't ever remember not seeing turkeys there. The birds are everywhere and I believe the 2011 Wallow fire has done nothing but good things for all the wildlife in unit 27 & 1. Good luck

Wolf pic off my trail cam

Is this in a unit where G&F says they exist or in an area where they are not acknowledged? Just looking at terrain it looks like unit 1 or 27 to me.

    Effects of the virus scare?

I wonder if this will become the new norm? ANYTIME our country faces a crises, whether it be a health, economic, military or natural the powers that be will want to shut it down or solve it artificially.

    Stay at home order

A friend who works at costco in Prescott said today was the busiest day so far. He starts work at 4:00 am and people were already starting to line up. He attributed it to the governors directive.
