    State Land Shutdown

Sadly, you may be correct. If this closing the forests and state land thing down works maybe they should just put up signs along the border and post electronically that we are closed? No legal or illegal crossings allowed.

    For Sale Ruger .357 mag

I should have bought one of these when I sold guns. I can remember having sales of $219 for ruger blackhawks back in the day at Smitty's.

    Now For The Good News

I haven't heard or read anything about yesterday's rain and the affects it had on any of the fires. You guys that live away from the urban areas hear or see anything?

    Crazy observation about this site

Woman only hunt or are involved in anything related to hunting due to Father, husband or boyfriend. I don not know of nor met a single female hunter that has taken up hunting on their own and stuck with it. I doubt they even know how to apply and when to apply. Most woman stop once they have been married for a while or grow up. My wife used to go hunting and stopped going once we had kids. My two daughters have hunted and even taken big game but they only hunted because they wanted to be with dad. If men are being honest they probably have similar stories. Answer this question: if the male figure was not around would the female "hunter" still continue hunting? My opinion but I doubt it. I think females like the outdoors and like seeing animals but they are not into the 'blood sports".

When do desert mule deer shed?

Most people keep their cards close to their chest when it comes to hunting and fishing locations and I don't blame them. I've had a couple quail and javelina spots that I shared with others and they have since been ruined for hunting. IMO the Best kept secret in hunting is people's shed finding locations. In all my years of hunting I have only been given one very good place to go for hunting (spring turkey) the rest I have found on my own or when out with hunting buddies. Sorry, I noticed this is not totally on topic but when I read a looked at pics, this is what came to mind.

    Let's See Them Gardens.

My father was an excellent gardener and people from the neighborhood would always come around and look at his and ask for advice. Dad produced waaaaay more than any one family could eat and gave probably 90% of his harvest away. Even though trophyhnter's comments are hilarious and make me laugh out loud because there is some actual wisdom in his words, I think he is missing the point of a garden. Garden's get you away from the TV, off the couch and outside. They don't cost much and they are great for your mental health. To each their own I guess.

    Lefthand Rifles

I am right handed but left eye dominate and had no problem shooting a right hand long gun. It is more of an issue when I shoot a right handed bow but I have learned to shoot with both eyes open. My son is left handed and shoots right handed rifles and has not had problems. He is just used to it like so many other things south paws have to get used to in a right handed world. Hoss50 "His life brother has it too, but he has somewhat better single eyelid control. " I have never heard the term life brother and even googled it to see what I was missing. Nothing came up. Care to explain what a life brother is? I'm guess it is something other than a regular biological brother?

    spring turkey 2021 status?

Anyone been out listening for birds recently? Are they talking much? I plan on going out this weekend and practice my calling and try locating some new spots. Good Luck to everyone that has a tag this year.

    Willow springs camping

There is not any overnight camping at willow springs lake. Day picnicking only. You might be thinking of woods canyon lake which has lots of overnight camping. When I fish willow springs lake I usually take the road to young and do dispersed camping.

    Sunrise 3D Shoot

I wish they wouldn't schedule this hike to hunt shoot the same weekend as the bowhunter happening. I would like to do both but if I am forced to choose, I will choose the AZ bowhunter association shoot at mormon lake.

    spring turkey 2021 status?

Went out this past weekend and heard multiple birds every morning and they would sound off until 8:00 or so. Only able to call one in but things just didn't work out. Winds would pick up late morning and the rest of the day would be a bust. Never got a single bird to respond to shock calls either at dark evening or dark early morning. First time I can ever recall that happening. Good luck to the guys going on the 2nd hunt.

Hunt proposal, more limited archery units

Since we are all just spit balling, maybe do some rotational Dec-Jan OTC mule deer units? Much like they do for Trophy elk hunts. Rotate a unit or two in each region with mule deer. Raise prices on OTC tags to make up any loss of revenue. I still believe AZ should not be offering any OTC opportunities for NR's. Make them apply for a very limited number of permits.

Hunt proposal, more limited archery units

I hate to say it but AZ offers too many OTC opportunities for NR's considering we have such a limited resource. We aren't like colorado with a ton of animals or wyoming that only has about 700k residents in the entire state. AZ has a booming population and a very limited resource. All these outdoor shows like Meat Eater don't help either. Where else can you go and have great weather, a ton of public land and buy a deer tag over the counter? I believe NR's are more dedicated hunters anyway. When they travel from out of state they are "locked in" and focused on killing an animal. They are more likely to hire a guide as well. Many resident hunters tend to be very nonchalant about it because they think they can do it anytime. I have no stats to support it but I would say if you took 100 nr bow hunters and 100 resident bow hunters hunting deer the NR's kill more. The bad thing about bow hunts going to a draw is that it will make hunters choose a weapon type. Face it, killing an animal with a gun is easier than with archery equipment. I'm afraid people will end up giving up archery if they are forced to choose. This will not be good for the local archery shops and archery sales in general.

    WTB shotgun

Have you ever shot a 3.5 inch turkey load? It will not take long before you realize 3" and even 2 3/4' turkey loads are plenty. I literally saw stars every time I shot 3.5" loads.
