units not managed for older age class would be what I consider traditional units.
-
Pretty simple really. It is probably the best mule deer hunt south of the grand canyon. The department is managing it for older class animals. Albeit it is probably not near as good as the 12/13 units it still has the potential to produce 180-200 bucks. Most the traditional mule deer units don't even come close to quality and quantity of 3a/3c. This is just my opinion and I am sure others may not agree. Lastly, it is closer. Drive 2 hours to scout and hunt as apposed to 5 to 7.5 hours north of colorado river. I think every 3a/3c tag holder should also be issued 5 "wild" horse tags. Just say'n.
-
Not saying I support G&F paying hunting "celebrities" to encourage NR's to hunt our state but a big reason it is harder to draw tags in AZ is due to our population growth. AZ had 2.4 million people in 1980 and now we have 7.7 and that is expected to grow another million by 2030. Non-residents should never be allowed to buy any big game tag over the counter when resident big game hunting opportunities are getting fewer and far between.

My son had 14 points and no tag for 3a/3c. I'm not surprised as I am sure some people with near max points applied.

When I was a kid growing up my dad was a horse trainer & ranch foreman at pretty penny ranch in what used to be north Scottsdale. I used to make extra money for doing things for people who boarded horses there. I got paid to ride peoples horses because they had no time, clean horses hooves, exercise in round pen and even brush horses. One of the horses I got paid to brush every other day was Amanda Blakes horse. I never once saw her do anything with the horse. I was always amazed at all the horses that were boarded there and never messed with or much less even ridden. Horses spent month after month in their stalls and only got out when they got new shoes or a trim.

Could you even imagine one of today's Hollywood types doing this?

This just happened to my son who is a LEO two weeks ago. Less than a mile in across the border and he gets stopped and told to pay the fine right now to the federally. Sure put a sour taste in his mouth and said he probably never go back. For you guys who think this is ok and just the way it is can have all you want of a county like that. You will never see have to worry about me taking your spot on the beach.
-
Sadly, you may be correct. If this closing the forests and state land thing down works maybe they should just put up signs along the border and post electronically that we are closed? No legal or illegal crossings allowed.

I should have bought one of these when I sold guns. I can remember having sales of $219 for ruger blackhawks back in the day at Smitty's.

I haven't heard or read anything about yesterday's rain and the affects it had on any of the fires. You guys that live away from the urban areas hear or see anything?

Do you ever make it up to the valley? I am interested in a good left hand bow for my son.

Woman only hunt or are involved in anything related to hunting due to Father, husband or boyfriend. I don not know of nor met a single female hunter that has taken up hunting on their own and stuck with it. I doubt they even know how to apply and when to apply. Most woman stop once they have been married for a while or grow up. My wife used to go hunting and stopped going once we had kids. My two daughters have hunted and even taken big game but they only hunted because they wanted to be with dad. If men are being honest they probably have similar stories. Answer this question: if the male figure was not around would the female "hunter" still continue hunting? My opinion but I doubt it. I think females like the outdoors and like seeing animals but they are not into the 'blood sports".

Welcome to AZ and the site.

Most people keep their cards close to their chest when it comes to hunting and fishing locations and I don't blame them. I've had a couple quail and javelina spots that I shared with others and they have since been ruined for hunting. IMO the Best kept secret in hunting is people's shed finding locations. In all my years of hunting I have only been given one very good place to go for hunting (spring turkey) the rest I have found on my own or when out with hunting buddies. Sorry, I noticed this is not totally on topic but when I read a looked at pics, this is what came to mind.

My father was an excellent gardener and people from the neighborhood would always come around and look at his and ask for advice. Dad produced waaaaay more than any one family could eat and gave probably 90% of his harvest away. Even though trophyhnter's comments are hilarious and make me laugh out loud because there is some actual wisdom in his words, I think he is missing the point of a garden. Garden's get you away from the TV, off the couch and outside. They don't cost much and they are great for your mental health. To each their own I guess.

I am right handed but left eye dominate and had no problem shooting a right hand long gun. It is more of an issue when I shoot a right handed bow but I have learned to shoot with both eyes open. My son is left handed and shoots right handed rifles and has not had problems. He is just used to it like so many other things south paws have to get used to in a right handed world. Hoss50 "His life brother has it too, but he has somewhat better single eyelid control. " I have never heard the term life brother and even googled it to see what I was missing. Nothing came up. Care to explain what a life brother is? I'm guess it is something other than a regular biological brother?

Anyone been out listening for birds recently? Are they talking much? I plan on going out this weekend and practice my calling and try locating some new spots. Good Luck to everyone that has a tag this year.

There is not any overnight camping at willow springs lake. Day picnicking only. You might be thinking of woods canyon lake which has lots of overnight camping. When I fish willow springs lake I usually take the road to young and do dispersed camping.

I wish they wouldn't schedule this hike to hunt shoot the same weekend as the bowhunter happening. I would like to do both but if I am forced to choose, I will choose the AZ bowhunter association shoot at mormon lake.

any turkey reports from this weekend?
