3D shoots are tons of fun for entire family and I'm surprised not as many people shoot them as in the past. There are people shooting at all different skill levels and abilities. Beats staying home and watching TV.

Excellent write up and it sounds like your father lived a very fulfilling life. Sorry for your loss.

I blame the guides, outfitters and their clients with deep pockets for this new wave of regulation we are starting to see. They are their own worst enemy.

I usually hunt the 2nd hunt but I decided not to hunt this year after they cancelled the hunt and did not refund me for my hunt two years ago due to covid outbreak. IMO the first hunt is probably the best because they are not spooked and haven't been hunted as much. My advice to you is to get as far away from the main dirt road that goes from east to west across the rez. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row too because every time I have hunted there I have been checked by their law enforcement. Everyone in camp needs to have a tag or a camping permit. Also remember, you are a long way from any conveniences so make sure you don't forget anything. Report back after your hunt. Good Luck!

Great dogs. I'm on my 3rd one and I know she is smarter than me.

I had these Goodyear Ultra Terrain's on my ram 1500 and they were great. Probably the best tire I have ever had on a truck. I'm not sure how they will perform on a 2500. Sorry for the quote post above yours. I got my tires mixed up.

I prefer morning (just after first light until around 10 or 11 am) for locating them but I seem to kill more in the afternoon and evening. For what it is worth, I kill more of everything in the evening.

I've seen them in unit 10 on Boquillas ranch and my BIL saw them on his unit 9 elk hunt 15 or so years ago.

I'll be in 21. My cousin from Florida is coming too and this will be his first ever big game hunt. I plan to carry my bow & my new Ruger .357. This is one of my favorite hunting camps of the year. Good Luck

Javelina are so much fun to hunt and just look for but I am never disappointed when I go home with my tag still in my pocket. Congratulations to you and your boy.

That's too bad

I don't know how the late rifle hunt is but I had the early archery hunt one time. Even though I killed it was one of the toughest hunts I have had.

Last hunted Wyoming in 2011 and got one @ 17 yards with a bow and arrow. Back up to 10 points and hope to go back back in 4-5 years. When I hunted in 2011 the gun hunt was going on but never saw another hunter. Hunted the first weekend in October and the rut was on fire(if I remember correctly, I killed my buck on Oct. 1st). Bucks were chasing does and other bucks non-stop. It was the craziest thing I ever saw.

This storm should be a good one. That must be a bad reading along General Crook Trail. More than 5" of rain over last 72 hours seems excessive compared to surrounding areas. https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/?&zoom=8&scroll_zoom=false&center=35.516578738902965,-111.12121582031251&boundaries=false,false,false,false,false,false,false,false,false,false&tab=observation&obs=true&obs_type=precip&precip_interval=72&precip_filter=0.01,18&obs_popup=false&obs_density=20&obs_provider=ALL&mrms=true&mrms_type=72&mrms_opacity=50

Dang notags. That avatar picture will scare everything away. Change that back to the buffalo.

I attended ASU and all four of my kids went to UofA. I can definitely vouch with notags and tell you the Tucson school student body is much more conservative than the Tempe Campus. Sadly, today's woke ASU campus is nothing like what I attended and grew up around.

I'm not much of a gun hunter anymore but the M77 is my favorite. I have 3 of them. A 30-06, 25-06 and .223. Great guns for sure and they can definitely out perform my abilities. We were supposed to head up for his elk hunt yesterday but I am sicker than a dog. Got a covid test and it came back negative. Went to urgent care and they cave me a prescription for antibiotic. I feel bad for my brother-in-law because he is waiting for me to get better. I hope to be healthy enough by Thursday.

I've said it before and I will say it again. AZGFD has to be the leader in creative ways to generate funds yet never improve resident hunting and in most cases actually make hunting in AZ worse. I wonder what percentage of G&F budget goes to support non-game functions like the wolves, ferrets, chub fish, condors, frogs etc?

Game and fish figured out a long time ago that there is a gold mine out there just waiting to be had called application fees.

Interested to see what people have to say and what you end up doing. Good Luck

I will be helping out my 67 year old brother-in-law on his first ever elk hunt. He retired from UPS a couple years ago and moved from Nebraska to AZ. He is like a kid and very excited about this hunt. I had to dust off the oldy but goody Ruger M77 30-06 for him. Never had to touch the scope as it was still dialed in. I hope everyone that heads out has a great experience. Should be fun.
