East Valley Chapter MDF 2014 Banquet
AmericanThunder replied to AmericanThunder's topic in Conservation Group Events
I don't, but I'll see if I can my hands on one and post it up. -
The East Valley chapter MDF banquet will be held on Aug. 2nd this year. The attached flyer lists all of the ticket options. Unfortunately, the early buck raffle is over but there are still about 80 seats available. Please contact Art Craker @ 480-396-3258 with any questions. We will also be at the Sportsmans Warehouse in Mesa on Saturday if you would like to buy a seat or raffle tickets in person. mdf .pdf

I would HIGHLY recommend the Winchester SXP. I have the 3" model and absolutely love it. It is crazy fast to shoot for a pump. Right in your price range too.

I had 5 tags hit my CC today. Now the wait to see what unit.

It aired on the Sportsmans channel about a month ago. It is really well done. I wish more hunting shows followed this approach.

I apologize in advance if this has been addressed already, but I couldn't find it in the older posts. I want to start predator hunting/trapping and would love to learn how to tan a hide for just my own personal use as a wall hanger as well as if I were to sell them. Where can I go to learn how to do this? Any good books to read on it? Thanks!

Thanks for the info everyone.

This is an article that I found to be an interesting read. Every family has or will eventually meet the person that their son/daughter has chosen to be with and this has proven to be very polarizing in some cases. I have always found the topic of religion to be fascinating and enjoy talking to people about it. I have experienced this issue first hand and would like to know what other peoples take on it are. What do you think? Is atheism something that you would regard as unacceptable in your family, or to each their own? http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2014/06/24/all-in-the-family-not-for-atheists/

Bo - Bill Nye is very much a "real scientist" he is a professor at Cornell University and the director of the Planetary Society that helps fund space research through government programs. Ken Ham on the other hand.....well not so much. Also, creationist scientists do exist, but are the extremely small minority in the scientific field. I would love to attend one of the AZOSA meetings, because I am open to all ideas, but must say that a creationists organization is hardly objective. I think you opened up a whole new can of worms for me with the vaccine debacle, but that is an issue for another post that I would love to go in detail on or better yet over a beer ha ha. I would never try to change someones mind, but I will always chime in with facts to support my position.

Bojangles - Science is ever changing because it is open to new ideas. As more evidence is gathered through time our understanding must change to answer the questions still unknown. I can't say it any better than everyone's favorite scientist Bill Nye so I won't even try. The link below is from a recent debate that fits in perfectly here. It is rather long so I don't expect anyone to watch the whole thing, but I hope you do. http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/02/04/271648691/watch-the-creationism-vs-evolution-debate-bill-nye-and-ken-ham BTW - The biggest take away from this debate for me is the closing statements where when both sides are asked "What if anything would change your mind?". Bill Nye being on the side of science says "Evidence", Ken Ham representing creationists says "nothing". I think that says it all right there.

AZHog - I am oversimplifying here, but Macro evolution is simply micro evolution over a longer period of time. Believing one without the other is like believing in inches but not miles. You are right when you say micro evolution is everything that happens below a species, but the changes that happen after this time frame are what make up macro evolution. Using your example, that is exactly why something like a blood clotting mechanism would need to "evolve" over time. It seems that most people misinterpret the word evolution and should be focusing more on natural selection. Natural selection is the process by which species adapt to their environment. Natural selection leads to evolutionary change when individuals with certain characteristics have a greater survival or reproductive rate than other individuals in a population and pass on these inheritable genetic characteristics to their offspring. Simply put, when a species adapts to it's environment in a certain way it will either succeed and live or fail and die. The successful ones live to produce more offspring with these same traits built in for survival. The DNA issue is still a topic that many people debate, but I believe the leading case for it can best be described in the link below. It is where natural selection gets it's start. http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evosite/evo101/IIE2bDetailsoforigin.shtml

Thanks venadito. I must say I think it has generated some great discussion without anyone flying off the handle. Which tends to be the case when you talk about religion, politics, etc. I hope it continues this way. I am also surprised to find that I am not the only one on here that thinks the way I do. The outsiders (non-hunters) looking in tend to type cast the typical hunter as the ultra conservative, red neck, far right wing, extreme christian, who bashes everything. The outdoors are for everyone and this proves it.

The great thing about science is, it's true whether you believe in it or not.

I really like the dialog this post has created. These are the conversations I enjoy having with people, because no two people share the same stance on this topic. I long for the day when religion can be openly discussed rationally and with an open mind. While that seems like a pipe dream, the amount of agnostic/atheist people in this country is growing slowly but surely and it is long overdue.

I am an atheist as well and wish my in-laws shared your thoughts. We get along great, but they definitely wish I wasn't.

I have a full layering set from First lite and I can honestly say I do not see any reason to switch brands. I have used the kanabs and a llano QZ in the heat and it is not only breathable, but stink free. By the end of each day they were soaked with sweat and after drying out overnight were scent free. I also used the kanabs with a base layer and the llano with the stormfront jacket in a late season elk hunt up North and was toasty all day. BTW. Their new 2014 line is set to come out soon if it hasn't already. One thing I have learned about First Lite is to order early, because the stores that carry it run out quick. Don't expect to order a full set 2 weeks before your hunt this fall. You will most likely miss out on something.
