I wear my walmart camo and have had elk walk up within 5 yards of me and not know I was there. Video proof too. I don't understand the $300 Sitka pants unless you plan to wear them every day of your hunt on a 7 day hunt lol, but that's just me.

Yeah my father in law has the 15x Kaibabs and I swear that guy spots animals out of nowhere. It's amazing what he can find with those binos.
-
Probably couldn't hang with any of you lol. My Vortex Binos and Badlands packs 😂
-
Yeah, but so are the Mystery Ranch packs. All of them at least in the large size are out of stock. I would go with the Kifaru if I had that kind of money, but I don't and the Mystery Ranch seem to be well built too. The Pintler is what I'm leaning toward for what I need it for. Thanks for everyones input on this thread. I feel like I completely hijacked it from the OP, but it's good info for everyone.
-
Yeah this thread is definitely teaching me that.
-
I'm guessing the Pintler(with frame) would be the pick then?
-
So you can get a frame and pack from Kifaru for $700 or a brand new MR Pintler for around $300. Which one do you pick?
-
Thanks for the input. Now I'm looking at the Mystery Ranch packs lol. Just found out I get a nice discount if I go through them. So many freaking packs to choose from. First you have to decide what brand you want to go with. Then once you think you're getting somewhere you find out each brand has 20 different models lol. It's fun going through it all though.

So the frame is useless without the pack right? There's no meat shelf on the frame itself? And the pack needs the frame in order to carry it? I liked the Badlands Ox or Vario, but now you all have me thinking twice.
-
The only think about that is the warranty would cover all that. I guess that part doesn't matter if it fails on you out in the field, but that warranty is what draws me to them. Lifetime no questions asked and transferrable. I was looking at Kuiu and Kifaru, but their warranty isn't as good. Too many packs to choose from lol.

It's funny you mentioned Vortex. Both Badlands and Vortex are the companies that offer lifetime warranties and 40% to military Vets.

I feel your pain. Just gave my son my Badlands 2200, so I can upgrade and have no idea what to get. We don't ever hike in for 7 nights. We do walk a lot when hunting, but always go back to the trailer when the sun goes down :). I did want something with a frame to carry elk out since that's the majority of hunting we do.

No love for Badlands? Does any other brand match their warranty?

Badlands Carbon Ox Frame and Pack Large New

Does this have the meat shelf built in to the frame? -
We were up camping in 3C this past weekend and already heard some bugling early in the morning.

What are you all wearing for winter hunts for boots? Never had to hunt in snow and now that my boy pulled a rifle tag there's a good chance we'll be hunting in the snow.

Portal is back up. -
That was easy. Wife and I got 4A Cow tags. Son got 4A Bull rifle tag. First choice was Unit 1, second choice was 4A. This will be his first bull hunt, so he won't care. 4A is where he's taken his three cows so he's used to the unit at least. I'm sure it's a lot different at the end of November than it is in October though.

And the site crashed lol.

Federal P708A ammo. Son has taken three cows the last three years with this ammo. All dropped within 20 yards of where he hit them.

This is the same set up I bought my son at that age. At the time it came set up on a youth stock and came with an additional adult stock, so you could switch over when he got big enough. Swapped over when he was 15 and it worked out great. He has used it for javelina, antelope and several cow elk. I highly recommend it. I also made sure to break in the barrel and it's shoots great.

Thanks for the pics!!! Definitely shouldn't have a problem by the looks of those pics.

So my boy was lucky enough to get his first bull tag. He's been lucky enough to have hunted the last three years for the youth cow hunt and wanted to try for bull this year. He has been using his 7MM-08 with Federal 140gr ammo, model P708A. This round has dropped his three cows within 10 yards of where he hit them. I know a Bull is a completely different animal. What are all your opinions on using the same set up for his bull hunt? I'm wondering if I need to use a different round or an entirely different rifle. He's very comfortable with his rifle and has taken three cows, an antelope and a few javelina with it anywhere from 50 yards up to 200 yards.
