Tucson lady was very nice, didn't get drawn though. Oh well thanks for the Tucson tip.

LOL!!! They're horrible. Now they're changing the wording on the draw results page.

I was just about to say that. The receptionist probably hung herself with the overwhelming number of calls they started getting. Probably took everything down until the get the website results fixed so they stop getting phone calls.

Just tried that and they said you have to call the number on the website.

The website is horrible.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if we could get a poll of what rifle everyone has their kids shooting. I just got into hunting with my son (10 years old) and my Dad gave him his first rifle, Remington 788 .243 with a Redfield Tracker 3-9x40mm scope. From what I've been reading it's an okay rifle for shooting deer, but I'd probably have to step it up if he ever went after Elk.

Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread but when do you decide it's time to call. Was out yesterday with my wife that has the Javelina tag and got real close to a herd, she thought she spooked them so she wanted me to call them back. That's when it got real fun, but there was brush and trees all around us so she couldn't get an open shot. We go back and forth about when we should try calling and that was the first time I've done it. Eventually they took off and we left empty handied. We've heard woofing while walking, but never seen them at times and I've always wondered if that would be a good time to try and call them in since we hear them but just don't see them. What are your guys' thoughts?

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I've been looking for a new scope for my son's rifle and have been led to the Leupold VX-3 3.5x40mm scope. I've been contemplating spending the $480 for a while now and found this deal at Dicks yesterday where you can get the scope for $240 after 20% off and $80 mail in rebate. Of course that's before taxes, but saved me over $200. Thought I'd share it since I see a lot of people like this scope.

They only carried the Duplex reticle, so that's what I got.

We'll be in 33 too. I was thinking the same thing about the weather. I think it's been more than 3 months since it's rained and it decides to rain the three days we're able to be out there. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

What scope is she using and is she using a youth stock? We've been practicing for a couple of months now and he's just getting good at 100 yards, but I think he's struggling with his scope so we have to keep it at the lowest power setting.I think she has a Vx 3 3x9 and a youth stock. Have him sit in the house with the sliding door open and pick out an object in the distance and practice acquiring it at low power, as he gets better at it then increase the magnification in his scope. That is what I used to do. I've been reading all over the internet trying to figure out what might be wrong and I think I just figured it out. It seemed as though he couldn't get close enough to the scope at the higher power to see the full view and I was just reading about length of pull. I measured him and he Is length of pull is around 12". His .243 is over 14 1/2". Measured my girlfriends .270 and it's right on at 13 1/2". I think after his hunt next weekend I'll be cutting off a couple of inches from the stock which should put him around a youth stock length. Then I'll get him a new scope to work with. There's been enough responses to give me confidence that he can drop a bull elk with his .243 if he can get better shot placement as he grows.

I think I'll take you up on your offer if its still out there. If nothing else looking at the set up would be good. I'm in East Mesa, so let me know when you'll be available. If it's as simple as swapping over the barrel and action I'm all for it.

My son just turned 10 and drew his first deer tag for next week. My Dad handed him down his first rifle for his 10th bday which was a Remington 788 .243 with a Redfield Tracker 3-9 scope. We've been at the range practicing ever since he drew the tag, but when I moved him out to 100 yards a couple of weeks ago I had to adjust the power on the scope so he could see the target a little better. Now he's having trouble looking through the scope because the view is so small. His arms are too short still and he can't move any closer to the scope to help with that. I've been reading on here about kids shooting over 200 yards and I'm just wondering if the scope we're using isn't very good or if there's something I'm doing completely wrong. Any help would be appreciated. I'm really thinking about going to buy another scope before the hunt, but that doesn't give us much time to sight it in or for him to practice with it. Thanks!

Congrats Emmy!!! That's awesome!!! Love reading these stories with the kids out there hunting and giving it their all.

His scope is pushed all the way back as far as it can go in the rings. I'll look into the Blackhawk Base, that sounds like exactly what I need. Thanks.

Thanks for the offer. I might be picking up a new scope today, if that doesn't work out I might take you up on the offer. Thanks Again!

How did you do on the early hunt? My son has the Nov 22-28 for his first hunt, he just turned 10 last month so we're hoping we get to see a lot out there just to get him excited with hunting overall. If he's able to fill the tag that'll just be icing on the cake.
