2017 rifle coues biggest buck to date
no worries replied to shurtzgarret's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I'd say she's a 10. Seriously tho, some great bucks. Congrats. -
Sold. Thx Jim

Slightly used riflescope. Glass appears to be perfect and the body is in great shape as well. Has the Firedot duplex reticle. Amazon is $588 plus tax. Optic planet has them for $649. $400 shipped but I refer FTF in Tucson. Thanks Jim 520 349-2926

If my 15 year old doesn't start taking school serious, I might have one available. Lol ( kinda)

Nice scope for the money.

That pic makes you look really tall dude. LOL Nice buck, no clue on the liver. -
By no means an expert on coues or 34A, but my kids have killed 3 bucks in there (34A east side) over the last 2 years. Lots of guys on this site know more about hunting coues and most of them have been really helpful. Most bucks we find are in the same area/terrain that has does. This year we killed one buck down in the prickly pear/ocotillo and one up higher. Both areas had does hanging out as well. Typically with us, the does are often found closer in to our glassing spot and we glass up the bucks farther out. If possible, you might want to expand the distance you glass if you are only finding does. Not uncommon to glass a buck that is a mile away and go after him. Good luck on your hunt and let us know how you make out. Jim

Nice unique buck. Like the part about not focusing on the rack until he was down.
-
That's a great deer, esp. for a first coues.
-
Nice buck, congrats to her and your dad. Hope I'm out there getting it done at 67.

What happened today on the opener? ANYONE?

Nice work guys, some great bucks. -
Thanks again for the input. Jim
-
Thx guys. Great input. Lance, I just looked at the specs after you mentioned that heavier bullets might not stabilize in a standard 22 inch T3 barrel. The T3x in 270 WSM has a 24.4 inch barrel and 10 twist. Glad to hear that Hornady released a ELDX for the 270.

Sako 75 optic mounting options
no worries replied to no worries's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thx guys. I'll recheck with eurpoptics but I think they only sell a rail ( Contessa brand) that has two bases you mount before attaching the rail. -
Any recommendations on what bases/ rings to use on a Sako 75 with dovetails? I'd really like to mount a rail but the ones I've found are not a true one piece. The rail uses 2 bases underneath it to mount. I know Sako optilocks now have a one piece ring mount as well as the older 2 piece style. Leupold makes a one piece ring mount. Has anyone milled and tapped the receiver to accept a more common rail? Thought I read that the hardened steel in the receiver was difficult to tap. Anyone have opinions on these or other brands?? Thanks Jim

Ok. All of these great looking custom rifles are giving me the itch to build something. I traded into a Sako 75 and it's been sitting in the safe for a year. It's a 308 cal with super low (less than 50) round count. Stainless with a swirly stock. I've got a new VX5 3-15HD firedot duplex that I was going to mount. Just never decided on a mounting system. I'm one of those weird left handed shooters that prefer a right handed bolt. The rifle came another weirdo and is a RH action/ LH stock. So, that's what I have to start with. Should I use this as a platform? Should I start from scratch ? Change caliber ? Just coat the metal ? I'm not a big fan of the dovetails that limit ring choices. Just looking for some input. Thx Jim

Sako 75 , should I customize it?

GunBlue490 has a two part Utube video that goes into great detail on glass bedding. I bedded my first rifle a couple of months ago and followed his instructions, rifle came out great. The videos are very long, but I needed all the help I could get on my first attempt. I bought a can of neutral color shoe polish at Walmart for about $4. His video goes into all the materials needed. I'm not savvy enough to post a link, maybe someone else can add that. Good luck and share a pic of how it comes out. Jim
