I must of missed it that you had a cva optima. They make a breech plug designed for bh209 to help ensure burn. 30 bucks. You can try with the plug you have now and see if the results warrant spending money you might not need. On a side note. I've heard cci primers don't foul as bad as winchester and federal? Any truth to that

Raffles at Arizona Elk Society - Canyon Coolers Raffles NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Binos winner announced. -
BH209 is definitely the wonder powder. It is a bit different just like T7 is. The volumetric and weight charges don't all line up, so be sure to double check if its hotter than what you normally shoot. There are some breech plugs specially designed for BH209 as well. Bullets seem like a lot of them are all rebranded one way or another.

Best rifle cartridge for open terrain - Unit 21 Whitetail hunt
khmer6 replied to Desert Rat's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Do you still have the 7 Rem mag? That's a great all around caliber and pretty dang flat with lots of energy farther than you'd shoot on game. Sighted at 200 with a good 160ish bullet you have a great gun without too much guesswork in drop and moa -
With the crap "high roller" hunters have been getting I wouldn't want anyone to know either not affiliate me to my place of work. Yeah it's kind of spineless? But at the same time I'm not going to lose my livlihood and paycheck over stupid public opinion over something legal and ethical

Sportsman will has triple 7. Never seen 45gr pellets tho. Bullets look online at cabelas, midway a few other places I'm forgetting. Mmp sabots are good too, load up 45cal 255gr lead slugs over 100gr pellets has been real accurate for me. Are you shooting sabots or powerbelts or straight lead

Man you are some lucky guy. How many tickets did you buy for that beautiful rifle. I don't know of anyone locally but in other parts of the country custom builders will work up loads for the specific rifle and even give you all the drops and ballistics chart. There's gotta be someone out there
-
I would say sportsman warehouse but they just lost me forever over screwing me over on a box of bullets. 30 bucks over a residual revenue morons. What are you looking for. Cabelas has clearance lots of muzzy stuff all the time. Scored lots of stuff from online cave for upwards 75% off

Difference in load data for .308 win.
khmer6 replied to BowNut's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I think Sierra stopped at their max cuz the load was being compressed? Its right abound 100% case load. Another thing to consider is case head stamps. Soooooo many 308/7.62x51 case manufacturers. Some might be more roomy than others. I usually find book max loads are entirely different from me. Some are lower, others I can push higher just like lancet said. Work up your loads slow and take note of case head stamps, oal and all the little variance once you are getting to the very top. Primer can also make a difference. For me I like magnum primers usually, make sure all that powder burns :-p -
i still can't find what the price of admission is? only see 50% off tickets but how is the parking or admission?

Best rifle cartridge for open terrain - Unit 21 Whitetail hunt
khmer6 replied to Desert Rat's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
to each of its own. There are plenty of calibers and cartridges suited for long range coues deer. But then again, define long range? 300 yards? 700 yard? Ethical shots are based on your own beliefs, practice, ability, and environment. There's no "too big" of a gun unless we are talking like 50BMG or 20mm rounds..... would a 500NE be too much gun for a coues? -
I think its a mix. There's a rifle area and then there's an archery only area. Have to double check AZGFD cuz it can change as our season changes :-D It's always fun to look at the OTC elk hit the ground and the landscape they are in heh

Difference in load data for .308 win.
khmer6 replied to BowNut's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
running Hodgdon max load thru quickload it shows 64,141 PSI. thats about 4k over max for the cartridge. I would start with sierra's data with 1gr increment ladders. get to max and do .3 or .5 ladder until you need to back off. Of course depending on how many bullets and time you got always fine tune! -
that thing looks like it would hurt getting whacked with. beauty. integrated brake?

seriously.... that was a very depressing realization lol. I'm all for paying for jobs etc. but sometimes its not really paying for jobs, its paying for the incompleteness of some moron manager that over spends or the bureaucratic decisions that end up costing the tax payers cuz someone couldn't get their sh*t together. We always hear of more fees and increased taxes, but when was the last time we ever gotten anything back cuz they over budget or didn't spend it all? It doesn't exist, cuz the programs, departments etc will SPEND every single penny from a grant or loan they get even if they didnt need to buy anything!!! and whos getting right is the corporations and contracts they have with the businesses

Anyone notice the federal duck stamp went up to 25$ now? I'm all for helping fund wetlands but it was kind of surprising. Congress passed a bill ro approve it?

duck stamp increase
khmer6 replied to khmer6's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
hahaha not protesting! just didn't really hear much about it for the past 12 months even thought its been out there and approved. It's kind of a wash anyways since we don't have the State stamp anymore -

also forgot to note. POWDERS DO CHANGE. not sure how old the book is compared to the new data but you notice it a lot in some really old Alliant or hercules data :-) -
Difference in load data for .308 win.
khmer6 replied to BowNut's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
strange its the same bullet but it does happen. Usually in a very large cartridge with 80-100 capacity or a cartridge like 308 where there are just sooooooo many applications and rifles. off the top of my head I dont know how each one tested, whether it was a real rifle with a pressure sensor or using a multical receiver with very tight tolerances. work low and start your way up just like any load. Some books don't list pressure either which i really dislike. I can run some quickload data if you want. 308 WIN 168gr Sierra BTHP with Varget. These are the SMK right? -
"Congrats to Philip B on his 2015 AZ Bull. Philip trusted A3 with his tag and after a lot of patience hammered this 436" 6pt. Congratulations Philip and the A3 team! The pics and video of the hunt and scouting are second to none. Stay tuned!" Where was this sleeper?
