Like new Vortex 1000 Range finder

Buyer beware!!! Tannert and I agreed upon a price for this rangefinder, set a time and place to meet up that was convenient for him. We had a virtual handshake deal. Several hours later, Tannert texts me asking for a higher sales price because someone else offered more! I thought we had a deal? Anyways he sold it to the higher bidder after we had agreed upon a deal. Be careful guys in dealing with Tannert. I have made several purchases on this site all with stand up honest guys. Just a warning to those who may deal with Tannert in the future.

    Winches and Hoists

I fab'd a hoist similar to this. The only difference is I used round pipe with a coupler that allows the unit to swivel(when you loosen the set screw) and drop it into the bed. For elk, you will need a pretty beefy setup. Mine breaks into sections so it will fit in my jeep or a ranger easily. You can add sections for larger animals like an elk.

    Randy Lee Knifes

I have several Randy Lee knives! Beautiful, top quality materials and steel. Holds an edge well with a lifetime warranty. I am a little bias though since Randy is my dad:)

Looking for Axle Repair Shop in East Valley

+1 for Andrew at Letzroll. He replaced my differential on my silverado and has done some work on my jeep as well. He uses high quality Yukon gears at a great price.

    Salt Water Rigs

I make it out to San Diego a couple of times a year for the 1.5 day trips (two nights on the boat). I have invested in several setups from 15 to 50 lbs. I too started with older style Penn reels but have since upgraded. The Penns are cheap but really handicap you on the water. If you are planning 3+ day trips you will want your heavier setups to be two speed reels with strong drags. I am not saying you can't get it done with lesser setups, but it may take you two hours to reel in a fish while everyone else catches 5 in that same time frame. When the bite is hot, you want to capitalized as it doesn't always last very long. I suggest you go see the guys at Phoenix Fishing Supply. They are great at helping you figure out what you need and they are more than fair on their pricing. Good luck! Offshore fishing is blast!

    Outdoor Quotes

"It's not the winner, but the race. It's not the laurel, but the chase" Art Lee. I don't know the true origin of this quote, but my granddad would say this on our hunting trips years ago. It is true! I value the time spent with my granddad much more than the animals we harvested.

    Hunting/skinning knife?

I am spoiled. I use custom Randy Lee custom knives. I get a new one almost every year. I am encouraged to use and abuse them. I have beat on them with rocks to split skull caps. All that is asked in return is that I provide my honest feedback. I guess I am lucky have a father who is not only a custom knife maker, but one of the best. Check them out at randyleeknives.com.

    Tent bag too small

The bag for our family tent is too small and in addition to being a pain the butt to get the tent back into it, has started to rip out. I am looking for options as to where to purchase a large canvas bag to store our tent. Any suggestions? I am not looking to spend the coin on a custom bag, but would rather buy a very large bag that the tent, poles etc. will easily fit. I look forward to you suggestions. I will hit Walmart on my way home from work today and see what they have but I am not too optimistic.

    Tent bag too small

I found the perfect bag. I went to Goodwill to look for a large duffel bag and what I found was a golf club travel bag. It is well made and the tent fits perfect. Under $10 and appears almost new. Just wanted to add this update just in case someone else is looking.

    Tent bag too small

what size was the previous....... check out the GI duffel bag from bass pro... or maybe a military surplus store even cheaper looking on line depending on size http://www.basspro.com/Outdoor-Products-G-I-Duffle-Bag/product/15020408215916/ James Thanks for the quick replies. The tent is a big coleman 12 man. I would guess the current bag is approximately 48" x 14" x 14". I don't think a standard duffel bag is big enough. I need an extraordinarily large duffel:)

    Trail cam recommendations

I am looking to pickup a new trail camera. I would like to spend around $100 but can stretch the budget some if necessary. Any recommendations on cameras in my price range? Or anything I should look for in the cam? I presume I want an IR camera of at least 5 MP. What else is important? Trigger speed? IR distance seems to be a big driver of the cost of the camera. Longer range is better I presume? Any brands to avoid? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make an informed decision. I currently have a couple of older Wild Game Innovations cameras that do pretty well in the day time but not great at night. I am looking for the best bang for my buck.

    Reliable Water

Just a quick question for you seasoned pros. I have been searching out water to set up a couple of trail cameras. I have found a couple of spots that looked promising only to find the water is gone a few weeks later when I return to check for pics. I recently found a small pool of water that had a frog in the water. Would this be an indication that the water is more reliable or do they just burrow down when the water disappears? I look forward to your thoughts on this. Also, I am looking in low desert around the valley. Thanks

    Reliable Water

Thanks guys for the info. I am working small water seeps in the desert near the valley. I am purposely avoiding tanks, windmills, etc. as I don't want to get my cameras stolen. I have found some water in washes. Some spots I have found, the water is gone the next time I visit. Others appear to be more permanent water. I just struggle to tell up front how stable the source is and was looking for insight.

    Trail cam recommendations

Thanks for all the advice. It seems there are so many options at the $100 price mark. I think i have narrowed it down to the following: - Moultrie M880i - $89.97 at Bass Pro. 8mp, 50ft inferred, 8 AA batteries for 13,500 pics - Wildgame Innovations Cloak 7 lights out $89.99 at Bass Pro. 7mp, 45ft inferred, 8 AA batteries for 30,000 pics - Stealth Cam G30 $99 at outdoortrailcams dot com. 8mp, 80ft inferred, 8 AA batteries # of pics not specified. Which would you choose and why? Any other contenders I am leaving out? Thanks!

    New Sight?

I purchased the Diamond Infinite Edge for my 14 year-old as his first bow. He is a Lefty so our choices were somewhat limited, although I was pretty impressed with the bow. It was a package deal. I am not real crazy about the included Apex 3 pin sight. I am looking to upgrade the sight and am looking for recommendations. This is a Christmas present, so I won't have his input (which I know some will give me grief over, but he will be happy with whatever I choose). Any 5 pin recommendations that are also budget friendly? Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

    New Sight?

Wow, thanks for the offer Bruce! That is very generous of you but I can't take you up on it. I will take a second look at the Spot Hoggs and talk with my better half and see if we can make something work. I will also go to a local archery shop and check them out. I like to support the local guys if I can. James, thanks for the recommendation. I will more than likely go the Truglo route. They appear to be a pretty decent sight for the money. $50 seems more in line with what I was expecting to pay. I am feeding my sons addiction. He has killed two decent bucks and two elk in his young hunting career, We also fish a lot and he has me beet with his personal best 33 pound catfish. I am so excited for Christmas morning. He will be excited and I expect we will be archery hunting together come august.

    New Sight?

Ouch - I checked out the Spot Hogg. I wouldn't call that "budget friendly":) The Tru Glo sights are more what I am looking for. I see several that have a light on them. Is this a good feature? The TRUGLO Brite-Site Xtreme 5 Pin Sight With Light caught my eye as being very economical. The sight looks good, but I am leary because it is sooo cheap. Is there a Tru Glo model that you would recommend over the others? Thanks, Curt http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H4RP5W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
