Congrats Buddy! You guys had an awesome year! Polish assassins! -
Just thought I would share my hunt this year. I spent a ton of time scouting and it made this hunt an enjoyable one. I was lucky enough to see lots of different bucks. It was an any antlered deer hunt so I made it my goal to try and find shooters for both species. I am strictly a coues guy, but secretly I would love to kill a muley! I never found a muley buck that would make me stray from my love of coues. That was until the day before my hunt!. Back tracking a little bit, I found a few coues bucks that I was considering hunting. There was one in particular that I kept coming back to. I 1st found him in early August and had kept my eye on him up until a week of the hunt. He was a typical 3x3 with a big frame. Here are a few pics of him in velvet As it got closer to the hunt I decided to get a little closer to get some better pics of him hard horned He was always in the same general spot. I just had to hope he made it through the 1st season. Here is another cool buck that I would love to see what a few years will add to him The hunt was only a few days away and I had the next 2 weeks off of work. My dad joined me for the first few days which is always a great time. We spent the day before the hunt in an area that I had not checked out yet and was dying to see what was in there. This is where killing a muley really had me excited. The day before the hunt my dad glassed this buck up on the move to get out of the sun and into his bedroom. I have a ton of pics and video of him but due to the distance I could not get the best pics of him. Here is a couple, he is a big ol typical 4x4 We watched him all day Thursday to see what his plans were for the evening. I decided he was my goal for the next few days. He topped over the ridge that night, into a spot where I was not sure how I could glass good enough the next day. The plan was made to hike to the top of the mountain in the dark and try to glass him up down towards the bottom. Opening morning came and we got up to where I wanted to be and almost instantly was able to locate him further down from where he was the night before. We watched him for the next hour to see where he would bed. He topped over the ridge and out of sight into a spot that was impossible to look into. I was thinking to myself that I should have tried to make a move to get into position for a shot before he disappeared, but I did not want to push him. I had my dad go down and drive over to a spot that might give him an opportunity to see into where he went, while I stayed up top. The rest of the day we glassed and glassed with no breaks trying to locate him. No luck there, I was starting to get antsy and impatient. I knew where he was most likely bedded and the only option was to come over top of him getting in close. I decided that was my plan of attack. I very slowly moved down the ridge over the next 5 hours. There was only about an hour of light left and I was still working my way down to where I thought he would be. I waited just a little to long to get to that point. I finally got to where I thought he was going to be and could not find him! I worked down even more with only about 5 minutes of light left. I finally find him just the top of his back working his way to the left of me. I quickly put the binos down and ranged to where he was 140 yards. Now I get setup and CAN not find him through my scope! I was frantically looking and just ran out of shooting light! I was pretty mad at myself for not working down to that point sooner, to where I still had plenty of light! So I backed out of there and made my way down to my dad. The plan was set next morning to start from the same spot as the morning before. Long story short the next morning we could never locate him again. My dad had to leave to go to a wedding so I was going to be by myself. I was pretty depressed that I could not find him. So I decided that afternoon to go look for the coues buck earlier in the story. I get there around 130pm and start my hike in. I am getting close to my glassing spot and I just decided to take a quick glance up there. Best decision I made, The buck was right in my glassing spot just feeding! I get the camera rolling and setup for the shot, 234 yards Here is the youtube link to the kill shot (I know I know I dont know what happened on the first shot ) Sorry for the long read!

Thanks everyone for the kind replies! I give all the credit to the awesome support system that I have. My beautiful fiancé never once gave me grief and always was willing to watch our little boy, when she could have done the things she wanted. I have a lot of making up to do! Still cant figure out what happened on that 1st shot, I like to think it was a warning shot!

Mine was doing the same thing I got worried. I found that it was user error. I had to capitalize the first letter in my department id and also had to add the forward slashes in the date of birth field. It worked after that

I have not posted in awhile just have been busy the last couple years. I used to get out in the hills more often, but my baby boy and fiancee take all the priority. I did not get to put in as much time scouting for this hunt as I would have liked but I made the time I had count. My goal for this hunt was to kill a 100" deer for my own, after helping a few others kill some great bucks. I have always had bad luck on my hunts, I enjoy helping other people kill animals but I was getting a little jealous My brother is getting married next month and we were not gonna have any time for a bachelor party, so I invited him to come up and glass with me, and to just get some good ol' man time in. I needed another set of binos and Ross Outdoors came through. Thanks to Josiah for hooking me up with his personal pair of 12X50 EL's. My dad went up early and got us a campsite. He just decided to stay back at camp and cook for us, which was amazing. They both were a big help and it made the trip way more enjoyable. My brother and I were up early and on the hill before sunrise both mornings. As on these early hunts, it is usually hot and can be miserable for lack of better words. We made it fun, talking trash, cracking jokes the entire time while baking in the sun. We got some awesome tan lines and some sunburn too show for it. Long story short, on the second afternoon we went to one of my favorite spots knowing we would turn up a decent buck or two. One of the things I like about this area is that you are well within shooting range to most points. Lo and behold after glassing for 4 hours and burning in that miserable sun, I laid eyes on a buck that I liked. He was tall and symmetrical. Glassed him up around 4:45pm feeding in the shade of a juniper. I got setup for the shot which I ranged at 341 yards. I quickly switched plates from my binos to the triclawps and got setup for the shot I waited a little too long to take the shot, I was busy taking pictures and video of him and wasted some time. After going behind the juniper for awhile I was afraid he was going to bed back down and had missed a good opportunity at a shot. Luckily he came out to the left of the juniper before it got to dark to shoot. I was able to get him down after the 2nd shot, I was upset about my shot-placement on the first shot but was thankful about the outcome. He is my biggest buck to date and I was happy to have my brother there to experience it all (You can see where my first shot hit, I was not happy with it) I rough scored him and have him a little over 100". Im super happy with him and have some good meat to eat for the next few weeks.

This is my Dad's 2nd bird in a row in the unit. Had 4 different birds gobbling in all directions, decided to go after this bird because we had a pretty good idea exactly where he was. Setup quickly as he was out of his roost, made a few calls. Boy was he fired up! the adrenaline was kicking in. He came in fast and before you know it the hunt was over. Got to watch him put on a little show before my dad pulled the trigger. Good times as always hunting with my dad. Cool lizard he hung around camp with us all morning

Bill, I think it will be just too short for you. Im 6'0" and with a pistol grip on it, I was barely able to get by standing

My dad drew the 2nd hunt in 24a, only 3 tags and 5 total for the two hunts. The birds are really concentrated in the unit. We did plenty of scouting and were pretty confident about the hunt. This is the second year they offered this hunt, so we were assuming the birds would be a little less call-shy. We hunted opening weekend with a few adrenaline filled hours, but could not close the deal. The wind was not helping by any means either. We saw and heard birds everyday we hunted so we could not complain. Today everything came together. This morning we had a couple gobblers going nuts in their roost but as soon as they hit the ground they shutup, pretty much seems like your typical AZ spring turkey hunt. We got on one of the birds but we could not coax him enough too come into shooting range. We decided our best bet would be too sit water and it paid off. We sat a total of 4 hours and this lone gobbler came in a little after 2pm. My dad let him have it. The bird ended up flopping into the tank so he was all wet so the pics did not turn out like we would have liked. Measured his beard at 9 inches, and he weighed 20lbs. My dad has always wanted too kill a turkey so he finally accomplished that goal.

The first weekend Cody(huntermncb), Justin(jwhunter), Trevor, Brett and I were out hunting. It was not a very eventful weekend of glassing. Just turned up does, and a few small bucks. The 2nd weekend was better as Cody, Trevor and I went out. We glassed up alot of deer, and some coatimundi's for the second weekend in a row. We finally glassed up a buck with about 10 mins of light left. He looked like a good solid buck from a mile away. We were all looking at him when all of a sudden a mt lion crossed the road in a full stalk position and went after the buck and 3 other deer we did not see. It was definitely one of the coolest things we have seen while out glassing. We called Trevor's friend who had dogs that night. He met us in Globe at 5:30 the next morning and we took him into where the lion crossed the road. It took awhile for the dogs too catch the trail but they got on it and off they went. The dogs trailed the lion for a couple hours and could never catch up so Joe called the dogs off as it was getting hot and we were getting close to the rez line. We decided too go out just for today and then hunt the last 3 days. The same group from the 1st weekend came out today excluding Justin since he just had knee surgery. We got to our spot well before the sun came up. Cody and I split up with Brett and Trevor just too get more coverage of the area. Within 10 minutes we glassed up this buck thrashing a juniper tree and scraping. We could tell he was a shooter so Cody went too get Trevor while I stayed and watched the buck. He moved out of sight so we made our move too try to relocate him. After an hour or so we relocated him. We got setup and Trevor made a solid 588 yard shot with Cody's 338 edge.

Awesome! How close were you from him

The load was 90 grains of h1000 and a 300 grain berger. We did a quick score when we got home of 108". Trevor is pretty stoked for that being his 1st coues

Slik Able 300 without the head. Twist lock on the legs and also legs can be locked at different angles. Just was not quite tall enough too be used for standing and glassing. PM if interested $50

Bill is a good friend of mine and has been a big hunter all his life. He has never taken a bull elk in his life. He has been on plenty of successful elk hunts just has never had a bull tag for himself. This year he got drawn for a Utah early rifle bull hunt and an Arizona early rifle bull hunt. He was a little overwhelmed since his Utah hunt was a week before his Arizona hunt. What a problem too have! He was nice enough too invite me on his hunt. Now I had a good reason too be up in the woods as much as possible. We made a lot of scouting trips just mainly learning the area better and dissecting it. We were not too concerned about finding bulls and patterning them like most of you know they move a lot once they are done growing. We started finding some very good areas and pretty much got it narrowed down too 3 main areas too keep our eye on. I have a ton of pictures from all of the scouting trips and the hunt but Ill just post a few. I wanted to do a big post of all the scouting trips and the hunt, but I just dont have the time One of the days we did a very long hike, during that we stopped to glass and Bill, came up with this When he got back down he said there were a bunch of sheds up there but did not want too carry em down. Could not find the other side too the big shed yet. We are planning a trip back up to that spot very soon. His nephew has the late rifle tag in that area. Ran across a few of these on some scouting trips Here are a few pics of some bulls during the hunt and scouting During the hunt and the weekend prior most of the bulls were busted up. We looked at a ton of different bulls and they seemed too always be broken up. It was one of the most fun ruts I have seen. The bulls were just going nuts. We had a small support group up there compared too most camps. Of all the time behind the glass and hiking we did, we could not find that big ol' toad bull. Biggest bull we saw was 365"-370". It was weird most of the mature bulls we saw had very weak top ends, which seemed to be the general consensus with everyone we talked too. Bill lowered his standards due to what we were seeing and all the busted up bulls. Bill ended up shooting a 310 bull in Utah so now his goal for Arizona was just a good solid mature bull that was not busted up too badly. Bill shot his bull on the 2nd morning. There was a bigger bull that Bill passed on due too his one of his 4th's being busted and parts of his main beam broken. Well you never know what he really looked like since he was broken. Bill shot the bull at 17 yards. He was ecstatic about the whole situation. It was depressing too me we were done by the 2nd morning when we had the whole hunt off. The rut was going the best I have seen it at that point. O well we had a hoot of a time up there. This bull was the only animal left for Bill too receive the Arizona Big Game award. The evening after he shot his bull we all gathered around and watched Bill cape his bull while we drank some cold ones
