Some good coats of clear sealant should keep it in color. I have done that many times with smaller pieces to make pencil holders and no loss of color or bark peeling. Just a thought to try.

Wow did not see that coming. With temps in the 70s in Mesa I incorrectly guessed that temps in the 50s at those lakes would free them of ice. Bad guess. Oh well. Will look elsewhere. Thanks!
