    Whats In A Name

Mine is a play on words of course yes I hunt bear no I havent taken any yet, although I did pass on a small one. I just get a kick out of mentally picturing an old fart running naked through the woods/desert carying a rifle. Hmmmm, should I be concerned about that???

    Muzzle Breaks

I have a win mod 70 with the boss sys. I chose it because I liked the idea of tunning the barrel to the load rather than the other way around, the muzzle brake was just a bonus for me. Shooting the gun from bench or field, I do not notice the increase in muzzle blast but being close when someone else is shooting is suprising. Alot like a loud Harly past your bedroom window late at nite. The boss sys works pretty well though so I guess I'll keep it, I just won,t let anyone else shhot it. HA! Paul

    1st muzzleloader suggestions

hey thanks guys, good info. I will have to bring up the Il. DNR web site to check there regs. I think I've settled on the Thompson Center brand now just need to pick a model and that is between the Omega and the Encore so far. Any more input would be appriciated though. Thanks
  4. I am thinking of getting a muzzleloader for deer and elk, I have been reading some and am leaning toward the TC Omega or a Knight Revolution. There are, however, so many others out there to consider. Frinstance I already have an NEF Handyrifle that will accept a muzzleloader barrel and the Remington ect. etc.. Anyway, I was wondering what you all think, like, use and the pros and cons? I do not know anybody who shoots muzzleloaders and could use some help? I would be hunting Arizona of course and Illinois whitetails as well.

    Campsite Trickery

This goes back a long time but...A friend of a friend came along on a hunting trip and seemed to be interested more in burning wood and drinking beer than anything else till we decided to have some fun with him. We set out 2 beer, errr soda cans on a stump back away from camp with the bottoms faceing camp. Later that nite someone cassully shines a light on those cans and they lit up just like two huge eyes. Well we made a big deal about how something or other was stalking us and by the size of those eyes it must be huge and beeing close set it had to be a predator. Well newbie was not about to go to sleep without we run this thing off so I convinced him and the others to keep the lights shinning on it and hold its attention while I sneek around behind. I was having a hard time keeping a straight face cause this guy was buying this thing hook line and sinker. Anyway, when I do get behind the "beast" I creapt up on it and pounced, oh it was a fierce struggle but finnaly the "beast" got me by the throat and I let out a blood curdling gurggle. The other guys are milling about and shouting for help but this guy aint doing nothing but back peddling around the fire till he realizes the others are laughing so hard they are in tears. That newbie took such a teasing that nite and the next morning he left a day early and has not asked to go camping again, I can not figure why, I thought we had a great time.

    The Results

I submitted my applications online but have not seen a hit on my bank account yet! Do they wait and take that money when you are drawn or when the app. is submitted? Am I S.O.L.?

    One thing

I do have a personalizes first aid kit and a emergency survival kit but I would never grab those without also grabing a good strong sharp knife.

    More wolves

The romantic in me likes the idea of wolves back where they once were, I think they will add to the outdoor experience. I heard them once many moons ago in Alaska while camping, sent a chill up my spine but added much to the whole trip for me, my wife didn't seem that pleased though. As far as what damage they will do... it's hard to know what to believe, there are certainly "experts" on both sides of the debate who will streatch the truth to fit there own argument. Or interpret the facts to fit same. And certainly darn few media venues that will give equal time and attention to both sides of an issue, god forbid J. Q. Public should make up there own minds based on honest facts. Why, today gun control tomarrow wolf control and next we will be deciding how best to raise our own kids!!! But I digress. At any rate they are here and will spread and we will just have to make the best of it, personally I'd love to have a pelt hanging on my wall someday. They will certainly have some affect on deer and elk as well as other predators like coyotes but I'm willing to wait and see. Hopefully it will not go the way of the mt. lions in the north west were hunters sales taxes are going to pay government sharpsooters to controll the lion population, and put the fear of man back in them, rather than hunters paying for the privalige (sp?) in the first place. I think that is a clear example of the media convincing J.Q.Public that hunting with hounds is unfair or exeptionally cruel... or what ever. I guess the moral of my story is that we hunters need to get informed , be vocal and understand that we will not always agree but we should support and respect the oppinions of others (even if there opinion is rediculas (HA!)) O.K. somebody else take this soap box I'm getting dizzy up here.
