Keep your eye on the prize. Here is a 5b bull from my cam in 5bn 4 weeks ago. I also killed on the late archery hunt on day 9 last year after over 100 hours in a blind and a huge upset putting a bad shot on my target bull. Stick with it it sounds like your on the rite track. Good Luck

It was short but sweet hunt. Scouted 4 days prior to opener and never saw anything over 150". The burn area I had scouted became a circus opening morning with our #1 buck getting shot about 600yards away from us. That afternoon we got on a few smaller bucks but nothing worth shooting opening day. Day two was basically a repeat of day one.Being persistent we hit a new ridge that afternoon and I began to pick apart the countryside. After seeing Turkey, a few bedded does and watching truck after truck driving up and down the nearest road. At about 1 PM we were about to change locations when I glassed up this buck bedded. After about 5 minutes sizing him up I knew we couldnt pass up this opportunity. We got the triclawps set up with her 25-06 at 320yds.Then two shots later she had her first ever mule deer. After the shot she was full of emotions, mostly questioning me to make sure the buck was down. It was Awesome to have our 8year old son be a part of the whole hunt from the prep to the kill. To put the icing on the cake I ended up proposing to her right over the deer. I have never experienced ground shrinkage after the shot but this buck only kept getting bigger and bigger the closer we got.At the time when we checked him in with G&F he was the second biggest checked in so far in the hunt with a 28" spread.Overall, we saw 20-30 bucks the entire hunt along with 6 being shooters. This was Truely a Kaibab Trip my family will remember forever.

5nRamirez replied to muledeerarea33?'s topic in The Campfire
That's Awsome that your thinking of doing this i would love to help when the time comes..The outdoors is a great place to cope with the loss of a loved one. This was almost the exact situation we were in last year when my bro drew a sheep tag with zero points only 7 months after losing his son to s.i.d.s at 4mo old.he didn't want nothing to do with the hunt but we made it happen... -
