Yeah I pounded them prior to soaking. Worked great
-
A couple bites were but overall not at all. Especially fresh right out of the oil. I think it was the tenderizing and the milk soak
-
Honestly, it tasted just like steak fingers! You can tell it's a different flavor to the meat, but it's not bad at all.

Man, reading this thread is making me want to bust out the Osprey Aether and go backpacking!

Yeah, my 5 year old and my 2 year now keep asking me when were gonna get it back. I think they can't wait to try some sausage and chorizo! -
Another thing, if it's good weather and you have a bug net, i would just bring a parachute hammock. Packs small, lightweight, and comfy!

Thanks guys! Yeah I was getting a little worried as we were running out of light but glad we got it done! I kept the backstraps and a front shoulder for myself and dropped the rest off at wgp to have 1/2 done into chorizo and the other 1/2 maple breakfast sausage. Can't wait to chow down! -
Had that happen in oct. Saw a guy tromping up the hill I was one and did the sarcastic excuse me cough and made eye contact. He headed right for me! Told him hey I've got two buddies up the hill a ways and he proceeded to walk right above me and below them and head to the very next hill that over looks all of our glassing area... Ugh. Oh well, my buddies went to the back side of the hill and killed a nice 3x3 that we have no idea how the other guy walking around didn't spook or see. Karma!

Yeah, when my wife showed him the pic on her phone she said he went ballistic and like started to run around and turned right into a wall... Lol. -
the mountain house meals pack a lot lighter. If you go strictly with MREs, open the pouches and take out all the crap you dont think you'll use to save weight and space. I personally like to pack a few extra lbs just to have things that make up for it in comfort at camp. I have a couple little black diamond led lanterns, I pack a sleeping pad that rolls to about 6"x4", I pack a 2 person tent to have space and room in case it rains you can bring all your gear in. It all depends, some guys like to carry EVERYTHING they MIGHT need, some guys go super ultralight but what if you need extra stuff? Im kind of in the middle.

Finally got my first big game ever down yesterday! 0/3 in deer tags lifetime, but now 1/1 in pig tags! 10 yards, bad shot, long track, finally kill shot in the lungs! I posted a thread with all the pics and the whole story.

Cool! I know of a couple in the Catalinas. One big one along the creek at Romero springs, and a small one I saw through the grass alongside the trail towards Hutch's Pool.
-
Yeah it's right there off of Santa Rita rd. One of these days in gonna get there early enough to glass from it. There's always a truck parked there and it's not very big.

Congrats! Do you know Ken Payton? I'm pretty sure he showed me this pic on his phone this morning!

2013 December Coues Success **UPDATED** with Pics and Story

Good job man. Great write up and even better memories! -
I copy and pasted this thread I posted over on acherytalk, just trying to gather as much info as I can! I posted up about that old Barnett Sidewinder 50# of my brother's I wanted to get set up again. Got a new string, fletched the arrows, got some 100gr heads, and sighted in 5 pins 10-50yd. I have gotten pretty confident with my groups out to 30-40 yards and started doing the reading on broadhead tuning. Bought a cheap Black Hole target and headed for the backyard and paced off 20 yards. So far the elevation has been just slightly high with BHs but a good 6-7in to the right. I moved the rest to left very slight amounts at a time and at one point got them to within 3-4in of the FP group. Tried one more turn (the bow has an old spring rest that's on a brass threaded bolt hence the 'turns' reference. Old school I know... Lol) and I feel as if the rest is adjusted too far to the left now. Side note: I read that some times even though the BHs are hitting to the right, SOMETIMES you need to adjust the rest to the right just a bit contrary to logic. Is this true? Is the difference in my shots too big for this fix to work? The BHs are STILL a good 4in to the right and the FPs hit at a wierd angle. If I remember from my reading, always to the right indicates an under spined arrow? They're already down to 27" long so my other choice is changing to 75gr heads to effectively stiffen up the arrow, right? Or buy new arrows, which I don't really want to do but I will if I absolutely cannot tune these. Here are the specs: Barnett sidewinder, 46# draw, 26" draw, easton camo hunter aluminum xx75 1916 100gr FPs and Muzzy 3 blade BHs. Any other info you guys need let me know! Am I right in thinking the arrows are under spined since they're ALWAYS hitting to the right? Switching to 75gr heads will make the arrow act stiffer right? 30yd group at the range before adjusting anything. 20yd group after beginning to adjust the rest to the left. Aimed for target center, hit left of course. Still shooting tightly. Closest I got the BHs to hit. They're the two to the right. Angles of impact are starting to get funky. After adjusting a little bit more to the left thinking I was getting real close, things went haywire! FP group on the left was way more open, I could see the arrows fly funny, two BHs on the right were back to the original distance, and the angles of penetration are all wacky...

Take it down to Bull Basin on Craycroft south of 22nd and they'll set you up!
-
Yeah, I have a whopping ONE point, so I think I'll just put in for one awesome hunt and who knows. Might be that lucky one! But just conceding the fact that I'm buying a BP... Lol Good luck guys!

Almost got my first big game animal yesterday. End of the day we turned down a road and one was running about 20yd to the side of the road. Hopped out, grabbed the bow, started chasing it, gotbit to stop, and before I got a shot another truck came down the dirt road and off it ran again. Still a fun day out in the sticks with Coues Kid and my 5 year old. We glassed 2 coues does, 6 muley does, saw some fresh lion tracks, and saw the single piggie. Can't beat that for a sunday!
-
It's completely flat. I did wail on a javi call every so often. I think it was just hard to tell what was really fresh and what was a day or two old track. I need it to rain and give me a fresh slate!
-
Yeah, I know they're in there. This was the third time I've been to that spot (the other times have been quail hunting) and have seen fresh pig and deer sign everytime. Just a matter of exactly locating them.
