I guess I should've specified on the original post, going to to try OTC in 23 this weekend for my first turkey hunt.
-
Yes I'm well aware. I was hiking down to the F-86 wreck. It's just fun to call them!
-
I hear ya. That white on their tails is so beautiful.

I've had the lip ones as well, but I don't think I've had the under the tongue ones... Did cope/skoal for 10 years, finally quit for good dec 2012. Still get a hankering for it though every once in a while... Good luck, hope it's nothing.

So this is my first ever 'modern' bow after just getting into archery with an old 50# Barnett Sidewinder. I did plenty of research and reading on accessories and bows and gathered the release, sight, rest, stabilizer, and quiver over the last few weeks. Finally today I headed down to the PSE pro shop here in Tucson, AZ and we got everything put on a new Drive LT in camo. I can't wait to start shooting it and getting ready for my elk hunt this Sept!

Couldn't wait for my axis shafts to come in the mail. Had to at least buy a couple singles just to finally shoot the new bow and take care of the itchy trigger finger! I 'think' I got the 20pin sighted in... OTC turkey this weekend. I'll wait until after that to tune everything up and set up perfectly. I just want to sight a couple pins in and whack a thunderchicken!

In 33 you will find a ton of hunters in the Redington Pass area, the Oracle control road area, and the Happy Valley area. There's plenty of deer in 33, just be prepared to hike to get away from people as it's the closest unit to Tucson. Also, get your preseason hiking in. Anywhere in the Catalinas are nearly all shaped like this /\/\/\... Lol Good luck man! -
Ugh, having a brand new bow and no arrows is no bueno! I need to shoot it! I have some easton Axis 340 shafts, Vanetec Swift 2.88 vanes, and broadhead adapter rings coming in the mail next week. Can't wait to start building some arrows! For now I just draw it and work on my form; still trying to get used to the length after using a too short bow for a while.

Thanks guys, looks like a made a popular and good choice! It's a Trophy Ridge Torsion. Holds 4 arrows in a spiral kind of around the center post. I like that it's compact, light, and different. Unique factor ya know!

It's an MBG 3-pin Ascent I got used off archerytalk

Pages and Pages of Sticker Pics

Finally got around to putting the sticker I got off of coueskid. -
If I remember correctly, the Santa Rita jag is the same one somebody treed while lion hunting near the whetstone mts by Benson. By the next year it had traveled out of the mts, across the desert and hwy 83, and found a home in the Ritas.
-
Those comments are ridiculous! People don't know the difference between jags and lions, between the Santa Rita's and the Catalina's, think that the jag is just gonna run across town to go eat some sheep that they'll magically smell and cross town to get to? Good lord...

I got mine yesterday. Permit #59 for 27 early archery bull.
-
But also all those shows are hopped up on how fast they can shoot so they probably use light arrows. Ya gotta have weight behind an expandable! I'll probably go with slick trick mags or qad exodus with a 400-425 gr Axis pushing it. Seriously considering using some of my NAP killzones, but I'll probably save those for turkey and deer season.

Last one I saw alive was at Arivaca while we were night fishing. Kept following a set of eyes getting a drink of water. As we got close enough to see it with my headlamp we saw the tail trotting up the hill. I have seen a dead skunk at country club and Ajo a couple years ago...

For value check out the Alps Traverse. I've been eying one...

Spot Hogg (Has the best customer service)
coatimundi01 replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Elk Hunting
I have a similar experience with MBG. I bought a used sight with some undisclosed defects. The guy didn't do it on purpose I think he had it set up for his bow, then when he sold it just took it off thinking it worked perfectly. (At least I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt) Anyway, called MBG, first thing I told them was I bought it used, explained everything, they said ok send it in. It's currently at MBG getting worked on under warranty even though I just bought the thing used. Got to love a company that stands behind their products. IMO from reading these customer service stories, you can't go wrong with either company! -
You don't put in for OTC. It's stands for over the counter, just go to a g&f office and buy it!

So I'm fairly new and have only hunted southern AZ oak scrub, ocotillo hills, Sonoran desert type terrain with an old hand-me-down pair of 10x50s. With my first elk hunt coming up in unit 27, what would be a good power for scanning I. The trees and looking across canyons and such. I've never hunted in the timber it I know the 10x50 will be too much. I'm thinking 8x42 is a good all-around power for the woods to still hunt in the trees and still have a bit of reach to put I the tripod and glass a bit. I'm I wrong? Should I be thinking even more compact like 8x32?

http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/43852-new-to-the-site-my-back-story-to-hunting/?fromsearch=1 The first post tell my back story to hunting, and I found out last week I got drawn for ELK in my first try applying! It is probably unit 27, so if it is, it's where my dad killed his last elk, a decent 6x6 out of the blue wilderness by hisself. I never got the chance to go elk hunting with him as a kid, so even though I'm not new to the country and being around elk, I've never explored too many backcountry areas and have obviously never tried to hunt elk. I'm looking forward to the endless summer of scouting, reading advice on the forum, exploring new areas, and hunting with friends. It's definitely gonna be an experience!

Yeah. Gonna have to cape and hang in the shade as soon as possible and tighten the laces on my boots and get to it!
