You can. Note 45 in the elk regs. They call it a restricted nonpermit tag.

I'll be in 27 this Sat and Sun and then back Thursday for the opener on Friday! My first elk tag, 1 BP, first time putting in for elk! Took the whole two weeks off for the hunt, can't let my good fortune go to waste. Solo backpacking hunt until I tag out or the calendar says I have to quit!

Yessir!

Going scouting this afternoon so I'll get some pics of it set up.

The FedEx guy left me a present today! Vanguard Alta+ 225 carbon fiber with ball head. 5 section twist lock legs, weighs under 2 1/2lb and folds to 16 1/2in. You definitely can't stand up and glass with it but I hardly ever do anyway. I'm just glad I don't have to lug around my big legs around the hills anymore! The Vanguard Alta Pro 263 is a great tripod, solid legs, but just big and heavy. It'll get retired until I get a spotting scope or 15s. Here's a few pics comparing it to the old tripod, next to my Vortex Dback 10x42s, and how it fits in my Eber X2 pack. It fits completely in the sidewing pocket of the X2

OH, just a little three legged stool. Never heard them called that.
-
I'll look up this walkstool. I usually just sit on the ground or my pack if it's gonna be a while to save weight.
-
That's awesome dude!

Yes there is a break in time for a new string to settle. If it's a good quality string, you should be able to just put a few dozen shots through it, take it back, have them line up your peep and d-loop, and you'll be good to go!

The top two pics are of a mule deer the OP took pics of for comparison.

I found my first ever shed this year at a little under 8,000ft elevation, so they will go high. And I'm down south so there are no high muleys.

Without a doubt coues. Look at the tails!

I haven't shot out as far as you guys but I've been using the Vanetec Swift series vanes in both 2.88" and 2.25 in. I started off with rt helical 2.88s 3-fletched and they flew good. I then switched to 125gr heads and wanted to lighten the tail to help the FOC and tried the 2.25s 4-fletched which is lighter that the 3 bigger vanes. I was having trouble with rest contact with my QAD with 4, so right now I have the 2.25s 3-fletched. Nice low profile, really quiet, no contact.

Azgfd getting info on declined cards?!
coatimundi01 replied to mountaingoat08's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
That means they're almost done! There's still a bit of hope for those not drawn cause of they can't reach somebody on their decline list after 3 attempts, the tag will go to someone else. That means the results will hopefully be out by the end of the week! -
I just got my new bubble and bubble mount from MBG. Just have to get that mounted and get 1st/2nd/3rd axes all set and then fine tune my pins and that's that. Shoot shoot shoot until Sept! And workout. But dang cake and Starbucks is tasty...

Aspiring Belgian model loses gig due to hunting picture...
coatimundi01 posted a topic in The Campfire
Have you guys seen this? 17 year old photographed at the World Cup got picked up by L'oreal, great feel good story. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/07/belgium-fan-model-world-cup Well, not more than a couple days later, a hunting pic of her, probably from Facebook, has come out and L'oreal has dropped her. Ridiculous... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/belgium/10962587/World-Cup-2014-LOreal-cuts-ties-with-model-Belgium-fan-after-hunting-picture.html -
Questions About Hunting Locations/Rules in Arizona
coatimundi01 replied to EverythingWx's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Anywhere that's not posted private property of course is open game. Lots of open range and national forest land across AZ. Just remember to leave a gate how you found it unless there's a sign saying to keep it closed. -

Yeah, just a bad joke that who doesn't make when you're 17. She posted the pic on the 1st the day Belgium beat us in the World Cup... Still a little grumpy about that... -
This year I have my first tag and have gone on my first scouting trip for elk a couple weeks ago. Last three pics are of the same bull. He's got a little cheater 7th growing on his right side. First pic bull isn't very wide but he's got sweet 4s and I'll def shoot him. There's another bigger 6x6 I never got a real good picture of. Those three bulls, a little 3x3, and a spike were all hanging out together. Hope I can find them on my next scouting trip!

I have unit 27 sept bull and have been scouting once so far. Found one group of bulls. It's my first tag, so any country up there is new country for me.

mechanical broadheads success and failures
coatimundi01 replied to creed_az_88's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I have some NAP Killzones that I bought for turkey with my old slow bow. I've since upgraded equipment now that I have a bull tag and was trying to convince myself to use them. Sharp blades, NO rubber bands/shrink tubing/o-rings... Penetration was my concern. I've since made the switch to 125gr head from 100gr to put my total arrow weight right around 445gr and will be using fixed blades. I will probably try mechs for deer and turkey though. I know there's a couple videos of the Killzones killing bull elk, and then one from AZ that almost stampedes them after the shot has a slow-mo and you can see the arrow sticking halfway out of the elk... -
I found my first shed off of anything today out hiking. Nice little coues antler with good main beam mass and a bladed browtine. It was pure dumb luck as we were hiking and just stopped for a breather. I happened to look back and down the hill and there it was less than 10ft off the trail! Unit 33 up high in the pines and aspens.
