    Bears unit 35B

I've never seen one down there but I remember seeing sign as a kid. Big turds in the manzanita bush areas as they would go through and munch on the berries.

    School me!

I will! I'm setting this bow up for my brother and will get my own afterward. He can't afford a new bow, and hasnt hunted in a long time so I'm hoping getting this set back up will get him back into it.

    School me!

So I have my bro's old bow. It's a Barnett Sidewinder 50#. I know it needs a new rest and a new string. I pretty much don't want to put a ton of money into an old old bow, but just get enough to have it kill again and I'll give it back to him ready to shoot when I get my own bow. I was looking at just those simple metal prong rests like I'm pretty sure it used to have (really cheap on eBay unless somebody has a donor mount! but not sure if all mounting is universal on something old like this). You can see the back of the rest mount and the spring. I'm not sure what that threaded hole in the back is for. As for arrows, I have almost a couple dozen Easton camohunter 75xx (xx75?) aluminum shafts. Need all new fletchings and I have no broadheads. What weight heads for an AL shaft at 50#? I want to do the fletchings myself, they had 4" vanes before. Should I stick with that? What can I use to remove the old glue? Googone, rubbing alcohol, heat gun? Help an archery tech noob out! I wanna stick a stink pig in Jan!!! thanks guys!

That's an awesome story man! Congrats to her on her deer!

    School me!

I've drawn this one and everything seems to be in great shape except for the string. No creaks or groans from the arms or cams. The cable looks brand new practically. Yeah, I'm in Tucson and Lippert Doyle is like 2 miles away so I'll probably head there. I've never heard of Robinson's, where is it?

    School me!

I know! A guy on archery talk was saying that the little spring sticking out IS the rest? It just sits on the end of the spring? Somebody was also mentioning that there migh not be enough "center shot" to fit a bigger newer rest? I dunno. I'll have the shop look at it when I get the new string.

    School me!

I plan to do that eventually, but for now I still want to get the bow set up to shoot so he can use it again.

    School me!

Thanks. Did a bit of google on FoC and I see what you're saying with the lighter head getting the % too low. I take it you tend to have flyers like that and not tight groups? And wouldn't the vanes make a difference with the 4" having more weight. Maybe the little blazers with a 75gr head. Or is the weight difference in vanes negligible at best? I guess it's just a matter of buying a couple different vanes and a couple different heads and just seeing what flies the best. Thanks for the info man. I've always like archery and generally do pretty good shooting other people's bows even regular recurves no sights, so I like I think I got it in me. Just never had my own stuff!

Where can I buy a decent unit map

I just bought a map from huntmap.com they're in Laveen so you phx guys may be able to pick them up. I got mine in the mail in a few days down to Tucson. Waterproof rubberized canvas. Pretty durable.

Camera Land's Deal of the Day 10/17/2013

Great deal on a solid set of legs. Was eyeing these when researching but ended up getting a great deal some Vanguard Alta Pro legs.
  20. Always went as a kid with my dad and brother but was too young to shoot just walked around helping. Well told my bro to dig out his old mossberg 500 20ga out of the closet and I gave her a good cleaning and headed out. Went on a Sunday morning, first shot, hit one! Couldn't find it! My first ever quail, gone! Walking by myself and no dog I couldn't find anymore. I did see some fresh pig sign and had two mule deer yearlings walk right up to me. Pretty neat. Went back this past Thursday and it was cold and windy as all heck. First hour and a half walked around and there were no birds to be found. Almost stepped on a HUGE western dback. My right foot hit the ground less than a foot in front. You can see in the bottom of the pic where my footprint is... Eek! Good thing it was cold as he didn't even budge. Moved spots and eventually found some birds. Got one on the first shot, missed another and then had to call it a day. I'm definitely hooked on chasin these little bastards!
  21. Nah, I like snakes, I'd just rather not encounter one THAT close without knowing it's there... Haha

New to the site- my back story to hunting

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm pumped already! Last minute range session this Saturday and then I'm headed for camp next Thursday!
  25. They were young and curious. Still barely had spots. They walked up, stopped about 15' and then I videoed and took a step to make them run/hop. They ran MAYBE 30 yards and then started walking right back towards me again. Spooked them again and let them go on their way. Saw them again like 30min later when I was chasing down some more quail unsuccessfully... Pretty neat
