Googling how to make a bow sling, I came across this: http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Wrist-Sling-For-Bow/?ALLSTEPS I think there's a few steps missing, as in EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS BETWEEN STEPS 6 AND 7! But give us 5 steps on basic braiding... Lol Just thought this was facepalm worthy!

x1,000 for boots at the garage sales! Sometimes you can luck out on Sundays and they put everything 1/2 off the garage sale prices! I gt my Vasques, Merrells, merrell barefoots, and a pair of Merrells for my wife do like $50 total one time... Lol

I just hunted for 4 days in my Merrell Phaser Peaks, only time they thought about slipping were on the hills like this /... I also have a pair of the Vasque GTXs from a couple years ago. They're lighter weight than my Merrells and have gore-tex, but I think the Merrells I have have more support and a stiffer shank for heavier loads. Hope this helps. The key is just make sure they FIT!

Just curious, where did you put in for turkey? I had like 3 choices and didn't get drawn... :/

Yeah, I'm on there too every now and again. I was just thinking of local offerings first!

I'm not toally opposed to getting cheap stuff on eBay though, I just have no idea what brands are good and what cheapo stuff to stay away from on eBay... So even if you dont have the items, but you have suggestions on budget gear, let me know as well!

Great hoodie! I have the same one. Just my $.02

Yeah, you're right. I looked at the book and it says prices include the app fee. Now it's just a question of 34A/37A or 33/37B

Anyone else eating tag soup??
coatimundi01 replied to ready2hunt's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I had a nice serving of tag soup. Although for not having been down to that area in 15 years when I was 13, I saw 31 deer in 4 1/2 days. 3 bucks opening morning didn't give me a shot, hunted with prokid and backwoods hunter Saturday and we got prokid a nice 3x3, Sunday I missed 3 shots on a forkie, Monday I only saw 4 does/fawns and came home. Sitting at home Tuesday, I told the wifey "let's go down there and who knows, might get lucky." Texted prokid and we headed down, saw 11 deer and a big ole bobcat, but still ended up with tag soup! -
I'll get one next year... For not having hunted in 15 years, I saw 31 deer in 4 1/2 days. Not too shabby, lol

Well, if you guys read my intro story, this isn't my first hunt but my first hunt since 1998 before my dad passed. Going solo, going to the same unit we used to hunt, and just going off what I learned as a kid, I came home empty handed. I was telling myself even though I was unsuccessful, the hunt wasn't a failure! I got to my campsite Thursday and glassed for a bit and didn't see anything. The spot looked too good so I came back opening morning. Jumped a doe in the dark on the hike there, jumped two more I never saw over the crest of the hill. Sat for a couple hrs and a a doe an we two fawns come feeding over the hill. No more than 20 mins later a forkie and two bigger bucks come over the same hill. They never gave me a shot, either bad angles or in the trees then they bedded down. Tried to sneak for a shot but jumped them. On the hike back for lunch I jumped the two I spooked over the hill early in the morning. So my first day I saw 9 deer, 3 bucks, and almost had a shot opportunity on opening morning! Not bad I'd say! Day two I invited a couple guys from this forum as they were getting hiked on all day and the hunters were thick in their area. They glassed up a nice 3x3 just sitting on a hill 450yds away and snuck around a hill to 318yds and he blasted him one shot one kill! Helped pack the deer out and we glassed later in the day at a different spot but only saw 5 does. Sunday morning I had a shot opportunity on the same forkie I saw Friday morning but buck fever got the best of me. I've never killed any big game so a 270yd, downhill, really windy, just hiked up a hill shot compounded by uncontrollable shaking from buck fever and I missed 3 shots! Ugh! I looked and looked for blood just in case but to no avail. I even had a bad dream Sunday night that some hunters told me they found a dead forkie the day before... So far three days and I'd seen antlers all three days I had a guy on a quad asked me if I'd seen anything other than does. Yup! And we had a kill sat morning! Monday I sat the same hill as Friday morning and only saw a doe and her fawn come feeding over. No bucks. I hiked and glassed my a$$ off but it wasn't happening. All in all, I had a fun time, had a couple opportunities at bucks, met two cool guys from the forum, helped then packout a sweet buck, and saw deer all 4 days. Like I said before, it was unsuccessful, but it was NOT a failure! Happy hunting guys and good luck to the rest of you!

Well, on a whim I told the wife "hey let's drive down for the afternoon and I might get lucky" so we loaded up the kids, picked up prokid, and headed back to 35b for one last hurrah. We glassed for a little while, I got bit pretty hard in te hand by a barbed wire fence, ended up seeing 11 deer just driving up and down Harshaw Rd and not a single one had antlers... Oh well, you can't say we didn't try! Fun day driving around the back country at least. Always better than sitting at home!

So I got hit for $21.25 which is the price for OTC pig right? I put in for archery pig draw. Is something messed up or do they just charge you that price for any archery pig tag?

Ok, here's the pics! -
Old reliable! I use a molle pack and I just removed the sleeping back pouch for meat packing space.

Sounds good man. I was in 35b

And apparently if you accidentally take a pic in square format with an iphone, it wants to upload upside down... Lol

That's freakin awesome!

I get a little bit of signal from camp off of Guajalote Flat Rd.I was walking back to camp around noon today an saw a bedding area. Went to look for deer or pig sign. Nope. 3 big ole bear turds... Nothing real fresh, but fresh enough the grass was still flattened out. Right down the hill from my tent. I can tell you where I WON'T be walking tomorrow morning in the dark... Lol

Hi guys. My name is Ben Payne and I've been a lurker for quite a while and figured I would post up and introduce myself! I'm going on my first hunt since 1998 when I was 13. Went in Nov in 35B with my dad and that was the first time I carried a tag and the last time we went together as he passed that following January. We never saw a buck that hunt. Finally after all these years I figured I would have a go at it and try to fill a tag! I've got next week back in 35B and I'm using one of my dad's rifles so it's going to kind of take me back. It got me back into the hunting swing that I haven't done since I was a kid. Been quail hunting for the first time, put in for archery Javi, and me and a buddy put in for turkey. I haven't had time to scout 35B at all, but I remember a lot of the spots we used to go with my dad so I'll probably hit those and glass glass glass. Great forum you guys have here and it's full of helpful people. Hopefully I can contribute some, or at the very least some good BSing!

New to the site- my back story to hunting
coatimundi01 replied to coatimundi01's topic in The Campfire
Well, just got off work. Have a couple last things to gather and pack, clean out the back of the Xterra, and off I go. -
I've only started gathering camo this year. I've to a couple loose long sleeves in AP, then got some habit pants in RT xtra. Then I discovered camofire and my wife has hated me ever since! :b I now have C4E switchback pants in mountain mimicry, a c4e hoodie, merino top, beanie, hat, balaclava all in MM... Just recently found a russell apx gale jacket in AP on sale for $90... I think I've maxed out my wife's, I mean my, camo quota for the year... I really like the mountain mimicry, for desert mountains it might not be great as the rocks are always darker, but the yellow matches the desert flats grass pretty well. I got it for those open grassy hillsides in the oak scrub, I think it'll do perfect.
