  1. Idgaf, What conclusion are you looking for on this?
  2. Question for the people that are completely against AZSFW- this is from the license plate grants. $170,665 out of $180,000. This is good right?
  3. I haven't made up my mind on this yet, but I'm leaning to supporting Conserve and Protect. The Rich aren't the enemy. There is an Elk organization that has a few wealthy members and they donate tons of cash, banquet prizes that are high dollar, and are better connected than me politically and socially. They are very valuable with or without getting tags. I can't afford to donate as much as them, but I'm not going to be ignorant and jealous when they have that opportunity and I'm able to somewhat benefit from them and their efforts. That would be a liberal argument. Think of it this way, Doctors can charge a lot of money. That sucks. I still want one around if I suffer trauma to my man parts.
  4. I bet what's going to happen next is the HSUS will run an ad campaign to win over the minds of people. Their ads will be complete with dramatic images and music just like the Dog and Seal commercials. I figure a counter campaign will cost lots of dollars.
  5. MT_Sourdough, Can you list some of those ways please? You might be able to solve this whole thing.
  6. Who is Conserve and Protect Arizona? It was formed by a small group of sportsmen with financial help from some of the states most well known sportsmen conservation organizations. The Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society, Arizona Elk Society, Arizona Deer Association, Arizona Antelope Foundation, Yuma Valley Rod and Gun Club, Arizona Bowhunters Association and the Arizona Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, and some houndsmen and women, all made contributions. This is the part that I keep thinking about. I can't bash these orgs too much because they did a lot more than me towards wildlife last year. In order for those orgs to give cash to ConserveandProtect, it must be important. Just my opinion, I speak for myself. I'm sure lots of people here volunteered and donated all kinds of money to fight anti hunters last year. I drop a few hundred dollars when I'm invited to a banquet where I can win something.
  7. Best I can tell of the current Board that Pete Cimellaro claims is a "completely different" organization, 4 of the 8 listed were Board members of the AZSFWC in 2012 that pushed the tag grab that was HB2072.[/size] Anybody look up incestuous? That's why I was interested. There are 4 new names that a lot of people here can vouch for. As for the others that were a part of the 2012 part, it's going to be hard to trust them. It's good we discuss this with an open mind.
  8. Jay, Thanks for the information. I would not get it if it wasn't for your podcast and I thought you did a good job being fair and impartial in your interview of Pete. During your interview, there was a list of names mentioned that sounded like they were a part of ConserveandProtect. I recognized a few of those names but couldn't find them or any others listed on it's website. One person in particular I had plenty of conversations in 2012 about this and felt good about his opinion on that matter back then. It might be useful, at least to me to see the people involved listed on the website. Maybe I missed where they're posted, but I couldn't find them.

    New neighbors

Cool birds. I had one that hung around my jobsite every night until we closed the windows and doors off. One day the data guys came up to me in the early morning and asked if there's a problem anyone has with them. I didn't know what he was talking about and he went on to tell me that there is a dead mouse in their cat 5 cable coil in up in a rack about 20' off of the floor. I hopped on a lift and went to check it out. Sure enough dead mouse maimed up pretty good. It dawned on me the owl made the kill and was pushed out when we showed up and couldn't finish it eating it. You're lucky. I have tons of respect for them and would love to have them at my house and watch them grow up. Keep us informed of their progress if you don't mind.

    Sig Sauer P226

None of my business, but I'd recommend he sell another pistol and keep that one for the rest of his life.
  11. I always search the classifieds here. I'm left handed so there are few rifles I would buy. I bought one here a few years ago and didn't low ball because the price was right, 500 dollars. There are real good deals that show up that don't need low balling. I remember the white International Scout for less than $4000. I wish I was faster on that one. My best purchases have been through connections I have with items that aren't listed in any classifieds. I have to agree that the item is worth what someone will pay not what I think it's worth. My trouble is I usually think my stuff is the best and should bring top dollar.

    High School Rifle Teams

Did Arizona have any high school rifle teams? I saw this article and it made me wonder if there's any past or present or if any members here were a part of one. I can't see new teams forming anytime soon with this political environment. https://www.yahoo.com/news/high-school-rifle-team-gets-101437339.html

    High School Rifle Teams

It looks like the clubs use air rifles. That could be for a few reasons like range space and ventilation. Does anyone know if they still use 22lr anywhere?

    Wildland Firefighting Jobs

When I was hired as a seasonal back in 98, NAU Forestry dept had applications waiting for me. I would check with his school. The Firefighter jobs were hard to get back then too. I started as a trail worker and did my Fire training with the USFS at a work center called Strayhorse. From there I was with a type 2 crew for about 5 fires when my 8 day tours with the trail crew was over. It's kind of up to him and what he is wanting to do. California it seems would hire him. I worked with the City of Flagstaff on their Fuel Management Crew for 9 months and enjoyed it more than the Forest Service.

    Tiny groups

I'm one where group size matters. It's a personal thing. I also have no problem telling myself that I'll never be the worlds best. I even accept that I may not be the best in a group of people at the range. But it feels real good to get that perfect group. It's happened to me many times. It's awesome when there are a few people at the range and everyone is spotting for each other and they get to watch it happen. Sometimes I shoot a great group and then on the next five rounds it's scattered. Recently, I shot my 300 WBY at the range with factory Weatherby ammo and had two good groups. The first and second was 1/4" or less. The third was probably 1-1/4". So it definitely depends on how consistent the shooter is. The two near perfect groups messed with my head and I must have rushed the third. I adjusted the scope between the three groups so they are on the same target and it looks real cool.. I'll find the target and post a pic sometime, I don't have the binder that has all of my load data and targets nearby. I've learned that to get good groups the rifle has to be special. The groups seem to be much tighter in custom or semi custom rifles. I've never had a garden variety, off the shelf rifle do better than 1".
  16. Thanks for sharing. It reminds me of growing up near a radar station. Holbrook had an Air Force installation until about 1994. During that time you would see the B52 and B1 fly at low levels in the area. Some of the people working that station said that a few of the mock bombing targets were Cholla Power Plant and the Hennessy Buttes. There were plenty of times where I was near the Pink Cliffs and a B1 would fly over me at about 200'. It put a smile on my face the rest of the day. I would mostly see the B52 at the Hennessy Buttes.

    Youth LH Rifle

Good move, I have 4 model 700s. It's a rifle she can keep for the rest of her life. The options are endless for them. In the future you can get an aftermarket trigger and install it just the two of you because they're so easy. You can also do a nice bedding job. Kids like that chit, I know I did and still do.

Marc at Healy has ordered me a few left hand rifles. It's worth it to give him a shot.

    Youth LH Rifle

I have to shoot left handed. My right eye has 20/200 vision. They discovered it in kindergarten during the eye and hearing tests. There is no hope or correction for it. My dad taught me how to shoot left handed and bought me my first left action bolt rifle when I was about 10. It's a Browning A Bolt .270. I bought left hand rifles ever since. Look into Browning, last time I looked they had compact left hand models. I envy you right hand guys, there's so much out there for you. http://www.browning.com/products/firearms/rifles/x-bolt/current-production/x-bolt-micro-midas-left-hand.html This might be a good one.

    Thinking of moving

I think about this a few times a day, especially the last part about job opportunities. I'm trying to be out of the city in three years. I too was born and raised here but in a small town. About the only other place I would consider is New Mexico because it has a lot of the same high desert places I like that are similar to northern AZ.

    WTB 22 Hornet or ?

I have that same itch. For years I looked for a left hand Hornet. Not many options out there for us. I placed an order with Cooper for the 22 K Hornet, model 38. It's a single shot bolt action and that's a first for me. I decided to go with it because it won't be a hunting rifle it'll be more of a range or prairie dog gun. I shoot single shot at both places usually. It should be ready in a month or two. I feel the Hornet is more of a novelty than a practical rifle so consider the 218 Bee as well. Take a look at Anschütz, they have one that I would have bought if it was left handed.

Woman shot at popular shooting area in Buckeye

Non-Typical, I was wondering the same thing as soon as I heard it on the news, about it being an accident or not.
