I will be flying out of town thursday but is there anything you guys need in the way of supplies or tools or anything like that? I just found out about this and would like to help any way I can. Thanks Mike -
Andy and Mr.Epperson, Great story, GREAT JOB. You guys keep gettin it done. I'd say 110 is probably pretty close, he looks to be extremely healthy but not very long. Congrats again, your making me jealous I can't find a trailable track down here. BTW this made me laugh, "I have never caught what I hear called, "a typical 90 lb. female" but there are a whole lot of guys that have seen more lions than I have."

There is no doubt Epperson and Nichols are top of the line guides, but there are plenty of others out there. Look up the Armstrongs out of payson or my partner Bryant Ogle from Double O Guides, they both have excellent lion dogs and will work hard for ya. Just my opinion Mike Harris

Guys I really hope somebody can help, I lost a dog yesterday on the RailX Ranch near the town of Catalina, there were a lot of people out and I am afraid someone picked her up. I cannot get any signal on her tracking collar, I spent all day today on the mountain and never got a beep. The dog is a female Walker dog with a brown head and black and brown spots, she has on three collars, a pink regular collar, a white tracking collar and a black tri-tronics collar. There is a cash reward for ANY info that leads to the recovery of this dog. I will be putting flyers up around the area, but I'm afraid if whoever has her was going to call they would have done so already. I will post a picture on here later. Thanks for your time Mike Harris 520-560-5650

The last month and a half have been pretty good spent all but 2 days in the woods. the dogs ended up seeing 8 lions and a dang bobber, now all I can trail is bob kitties. i didn't carry the camera on all the lions and the bobber you couldn't see from the ground and the dogs tore him up pretty good so no pictures. Here's a few pictures of the others. Mike Harris

How do you train a dog for hunting lions
HD Trophy Hunts replied to draggingnuts's topic in Other Big Game
thats not the first time I have heard of that. must be something in the dog bowl. a lot of guys say that when they have lion dogs. training a dog to hunt lions is very difficult and you need to make sure you are serious before you take on the task. Like everyone said the best way is to hunt them is with older finished hounds and let them lead by example, a dog can teach another dog a lot faster than a human. I don't subscribe to the necking them up deal, you neck them up where I hunt you're gonna have dead dogs. Since you're asking I'm assuming you can't do that at the moment. Have you introduced the dog to lion scent? This should have been done already. Since you're already at a year you are a few months behind which only makes an already difficult task, even harder, there are quite a few people who will hunt your dogs for money. Dave Carlson out of Yarnell is pretty well known, and his website is www.lionhoundtraining.com, another guy you might want to look at is Greg Anderson out of Show Low, I've met him a few times in the woods and the man knows dogs. You need to ask yourself if it's something you really want to do before you do it though. It's a full time job keeping dogs fed, in shape, broke off trash and healthy. It's not fair to the dog if you only want to half butt it. They are bred to do this but that dog will only become as good as you make it. Sorry if I don't seem gracious. I'm only 23 but I've been around hounds since I was born and I see people get in and out all the time because they don't realize the commitment it takes to make dogs ESPECIALLY in arizona. The worst part about it is good dogs get ruined or wasted. CouesAZ you are pretty close, it's not always about bad habits though. Most real houndsmen know their pack, they have hunted with them so much they can tell whats going on by the way a dog wags their tail or the tone of their voice. It's just another unknown thats hard to deal with. A dog has to prove its trustworthy just like a human. .270....... the trick is to stay single! -
As far as I know firearms aren't allowed in Madera Canyon either? I'm a bit confused. As far as lions go if any of you guys stumble onto a lion or find one on a kill or something and we can get to it in a timely fashion. I'd be glad to catch it with my hounds and let you harvest it, I don't guide so it would be free of charge. I have friends in the ranching business and lions hit em hard. Lion tags are over the counter, 1 per person, there are also quota units around the state where they are thick enough that a person can kill 15 in a year if they wanted. Mainly because of the damage they are doing to big horn sheep populations.

stumbled across this site a couple days ago tried to register and it said i already had a username figured i'd share some pictures from last weekend. started an old female sunday in the desert country and unfortunately where she went there weren't many trees to climb. we trailed her up to some rock piles and i thought we might catch her on a ledge or in a hole but she made a left and went up into a big bare canyon. tried to climb up a little mesquite tree and unfortunately the dogs pulled her out of the tree and had her about killed by the time i got there. i didn't have a gun with me which was stupid. she was an old female all her teeth were worn down almost flat. canyon she treed in

doubt it. that old of a cat would be lucky to kill a few rabbits a week. russd is absolutely right. she was feeding mainly on javalina and skunk. she was near the end of her road.

yes, i had to put my tag on her. but it does happen from time to time.
