G5 montec gets my vote. Made a less that perfect shot on my bull last year and he didn't make it 150 yards

The pelt will not be worth as much as they are during winter. Other than that there is not much difference. Your still calling a predator in with hopes of an easy meal. They have to eat all year long. Sure there are specific things that keep a coyote from coming into a set. These things differe from season to season but there is always a need to eat.

My guess is you blew a little bit too loud and scared him. I watched a cat trot across the road in front of me when leaving the trap line. I pulled over, grabbed my 17 and a Primos cat nip that stays in the truck and started off in the direction I saw him. I crest over a little hill and see him walking in a wash. I hop in the was behind him, take aim and blow the call to get a shot at something other than his butt. He took off like a rocket! I was 30 yards from him and blew the call like I was trying to call him in from 400 yards. I went over every reason why he would have took off like he did and the only thing I can come up with is that I blew the call too loud. We live and we learn I guess. Next time I say we just shoot the critters and leave the calls out of it in our particular situations.

Nice write up. Great, now I have to go buy a dang hornet. I'm kinda a savage freak so it will be hard to go CZ but I will do a fair internet research analysis. Stay warm up there. I'll save a little fur down here for when you get back.

Where are you located?

Sweet rig. I love my 204

You also have to look at how all if this works. It is pretty hard to estimate prices. It's my opinion that fur buyers don't really know how much they need to buy until a few months after cold weather starts. That's when fur clothing starts leaving the shelves or sitting still depending on weather and fashion trends. Retailers will then put in orders which will fall on the buyers. It's only after customers buy up previous years fur that there is a demand for this years fur. All of this starts happening when we have already started trapping so in my mind it's good practice to trap for the enjoyment and not the cash. It's just too hard to predict high prices.

I bought a Criterion barrel from Jim at Northland and it shoots great. Great customer service as well.

That was a good response from that coyote. Good shot and good filming.

We all educate coyote. It's what keeps plenty of them around for is to hunt. Just gotta play the odds and stick with it. Some days you get lucky and find a few dumb one.... most days you don't. -
Do a quick walk around the area when you think your trap has been stolen. Two years ago I had a cage stolen, or so I thought. By looking at the sign in the sand I could tell that the cage was drug a few feet and layed over on it's side. Im assuming it had a fox in it when they found it as I had caught 3 fox in it already. As I was wailing around looking at the sign in the was I saw the cage about 20 feet away in the brush. I think they dumped my catch and just chunked the cage in the brush. Many of these granola eatting bunny huggers ride thier little bikes every where they go. That or they drive Prius. Either way a lot of times they don't want to or don't have the means to take your cage with them. Check the brush.

dang that's pretty good Matt.
