What unit if you don't mind me asking? I spent some time for a friends hunt up in 21 and they where starting to talk up there, but I was up in 4B this Saturday and it was relatively quiet. Just wondering where folks are starting to really hear them screaming.

Guess it just depends on location right now. I was up in 21 over the weekend chasing some deer around and we had a good amount of bugling going on, glassed a few nice sized bulls across a creek and watched them bugle back and forth for over an hour. In 4b where i actually have a tag i havent heard a dang thing though! -
I have an early hunt up in 4B. A friend recomended Malapai meats up in Taylor. In another thread that i was just reading some folks mentioned that some of the processors will have mobile trucks out and about. Does anyone know the locations of these trucks and the reputation of them? Or does anyone have any other processors they recomend up in the payson/heber/showlow area. I have read about a lot of places ripping people off and i really dont want to get hosed if i am fortunate enough to get a bull down this season. Any advice would be great, thanks!

Spent some time up in 4B this weekend and nothing fresh. Saw a lot of last years...hopefully soon!

Well i dont think my wife would care to much about processing the meat myself. She would actually probably be okay with helping me do it. And i understand what everyone is saying about proper care in the field and the person who has kind of been my "mentor" in hunting has always preached proper care of the meat in the field. Like i said i just have more of a concern about storing it when i get home and actually going through the whole process. But the more and more i think about it i may just do it myself.

Well this is definately starting to peak my interest on just DIY'ing it. Thanks for all the points guys. The good news is that i am hunting with my brother and he would most likely be willing to split the cost on all the processing gear with me, and then we would be saving money right out of the gate. I have a weekend in the woods ahead of me to think about it. Thanks again everyone for the sound advise.

I would love to try and process myself, but i am worried about a few things. One the heat down in the valley and not having adequate freezer/fridge space for an elk, and secondly i would be beyond disappointed in myself if i managed to screw up the meat from an elk especially my first elk and it spoiled or something along those lines. I feel like someday i would like to process my own game but want to take baby steps on something smaller. Perhaps i am wrong, if anyone has any thoughts on DYI'ing it down in the valley i am up for all options!

Wow, i am honestly shocked at all the negative feedback on BM. I have talked with Ed on a few occasions but nothing to in depth. But the main guy for the Archery side has always been excellent to work with. I bought a Charger from the shop, he set everything up for me. I shot the bow and he gave me some pointers on how to shoot, grip etc etc etc and helped me get sighted in at 20 yards. I have since been back with my brother in law and a good friend that i work with to get both of them setup with new bows and the experience has been great on both of those occasions. For the most part i have delt with only Mike on the archery side of things and he has always given good sound advice to any question that i have asked. And as my name states i am a rookie archer so i have had a lot of questions. I am just shocked to hear that you had such a bad experience with them. I am glad that Ed at least got the refund taken care of for you. As for the bow, its fantastic so hopefully you get another one setup soon and get to start shooting.

New to the site, finally got drawn for my first early archery bull tag in 4B. I have been up and done some early season scouting and just learning the lay of the land. I am going to be going up every weekend from now until the hunt and i have some good ideas on where i plan to start scouting. But if anyone has any experience with this unit and is willing to share any info that would be greatly appreciated. My plan is to focus on a few canyons and stretch out my legs. Anyhow, thanks in advance!
