Bob Costas' Gun Control Comments-"Outrageous"
ghost hunter replied to CEI's topic in CEI Outdoors Blog
Costas was on O'Reileys tonite and didn't do a very good job of defending his position or his logic. What he did say was that he doesn't/won't walk back anything he said and will contnue to promote his position as the opportunities present themselves. As for Jason Whitlock, well, his logic couldn't be explained, well ever. I think we need to contact Fox Sports and express your opinion on both commentations. -
Strange...saw the same sticker twice in less than an hour. It was on a newer, white GMC 4dr 4x4. First time it was parked at the QT on Kolb north of Speedway. Then, a few minutes later, I came out of the Sports Authority (Broadway & Kolb) and there it is again. Was on a mission so I didn't have time to visit.

What I'm most thankful for this Thanksgiving is my son getting back from Afganistan yesterday.

Opinions??? Did we get screwed?
ghost hunter replied to AzVTR's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I've had people cut infront of me and try and tell me to move, 'it was their area' acouple of time in 32 wt hunts, and in 27 turkey hunting. At first I used to just say 'oh well' and move on. As I got older and they seemed to get bolder about it, I've started confronting them. The last time was when a dad and his 3 kids (OTC youth tags) came crashing in between me and the tom I was working. I backed out so there was no cross-fire or mistaken identity shooting but did go back and strongly advise their partner at their truck that I didn't appreciate it. While I think we should all be cordial in the woods, if we don't start bringing these situations to the attention of the offending people (fisticuffs and gun play excluded), we never will get them to stop. -
I'e got an early mode 95 toyo truck (not a Tacoma). I needs some work and both the Chilton's and Haynes don't have expanded views of most anything. I'm looking for 1) an active Toyota formum, 2) somewhere/someone who has expanded views particuarly of the front end 3) some other good point in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

The wisdom of a kid
ghost hunter replied to Pine Donkey's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
My wife used to think that way..."I can't be out of money, I have checks left" After she figured out how plastic worked, it was "oo la la" I can't ever run out of money. -
I don't claim to be a ref, but even I could tell that was wrong. I don't care if your a Sea Hawk fan, you have to admit that was a bad call.

July 21st Get-Together at Gila Outdoor in Safford - GIANT BUCKS!
ghost hunter replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
I was there just ahead of you. I thought is was a nice turn-out. Saw several stickers running around town. A few I didn't remember ever seeing before. I too, got to meet Amanda face-to-face for the first time. Nice lady. -
The fire on the southside, looks like two. One somewhere close to the prison, the other on the southside of Stockton Pass. They've had a couple of fires through that general area in the past few years so I didn't think much of it. There were several truck coming and going. Then I get to town and can see the one up high. Didn't seem to be doing much, but I agree, Hit it a couple of times and be done with it. There is another that started Wed afternoon in the Winchesters. Hasnt burned much more than grass and low brush. I doubt anyone is worried about it.

Obamacare Upheld.....thoughts??
ghost hunter replied to ready2hunt's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
All of us at work were just left speechless when they ruled for Obamacare. But it seems that Justice Roberts actually did us a favor. Not only did he rule that it was a "tax" which opens another round to the SCOTUS, he didn't cover it through the Commerce Clause, but more importantly, his decision all but drew a picture of how to deal with this. Basically, he challenged the US voters to vote this thing out and the people who dreamed it up. Don't know about you all, but I'm up for the challenge. -
I've been trying and trying to become a millionaire and to think all I had to do is quit bowhunting. At the risk of sounding too stupid to give up, I could have saved millions on broken/lost arrows, damaged broadheads, several different patterns of camo, binos, tripods, oh crap the list just goes on and on. Become a millionaire if you want, but you can't hardly put a price on the fun/frustration you'll be giving up.

when did you shoot your first big game animal
ghost hunter replied to catfish's topic in Youth Hunters
I started when I was 10 but it took me 7 more before I could shoot, then find, then get my tag on a 3x mule deer. That was more an "about time!!!" moment. Getting my first buck (WT spike) with a bow was probably a bigger thrill. -
44 auto mag. So quite you won't even hear your friends (laughing).lol

Lets see...people who are dishonest enough to steal trail cams will be honest enough to honor a forest closure...? Hope your right.

I know it sounds like the former Gov is lying (lips are moving) when she says, "The border is more secure today than ever". Fact is, that is a true statement. A year ago it was 0% secure, now probably 1%. So...it is "...more secure than ever." (When put into context) We all need to really watch what the politicians are saying, not saying, and the context in which they put it. Then vote accordingly.

I used to use a combo of black, brown and olive drab. Idea being that it wont catch the eye of what ever prey is in sight. Of course they are hard to find after you shoot them and hard to follow through the air. I've now added a lighter, brighter vane to that I can see the shot better. Of course, if you are just shooting 3D or paper punching, any color will work just fine.

straight fletching or helical?
ghost hunter replied to Timberghost's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Not sure how much effect a helical will be with only a 2" vane. I've fletched both, straight and helical. You do loose speed with a helical but will get more arrow stabilization. I've not tried it with low profile broadheads, but with the mechanicals, I doubt you'll need helical. FWIW -
By the time this is all over, just about everyone's favorite spot will have burned.

I'd sent you a pm about the trimmer a week or so ago. If you still have it for sale, let me know.

AZGF will be back in to lawmaking in 2011
ghost hunter replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in The Campfire
I must have lived a charmed childhood. The 'good old days' seemed to be pretty good to me. While I didn't get a buck every year, it wasn't for lack of opportunity or trying. I shot at or had shooting opportunities more than I'd like to admit. What I do see as a difference between then and now are: 1) habitat loss- most of my best and favorite places are now "downtown" somewhere. People laugh when I tell them that I used to ride my bike through the neighborhood to go hunting. Of course people then didn't think twice about seeing a kid going down the street with a gun either. They'd usual stop and want to ask about your hunt. 2) access loss- used to be able to go just about anywhere. No locked gates anywhere and can't even think of someone who used to complain. Well I guess if you had tried hunting off their porch or shooting from their driveway, they might have said something. 3) hunter density- usually only saw 1 or 2 people and they NEVER tried to cut you out of your area. In fact, most would come and talk about which way you were going and they would go a different way. 4) the ability to hunt mulie or coues and hunt anywhere you wanted- after they started with the specific unit idea, it did keep people from "running to" the latest reported kill zone but I don't think it did anything for hunter density. All in all, I do think the "good old days" were better than today, but that's just one guy's opinion. -
I voted "no" because we "SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HAVE" any more regulations, however, our actions are making that an inevitable reality. Every time someone introduces something that is not "naturally occurring" (yes, even salt)into the forest, we run the risk of crossing the line between "use" and "abuse". Just how many salt licks, corn flingers, and ??? stations per acre can you have before enough is enough? 45,000 deer tags and several thousand elk tags in 2010 bring the potential for alot of use/abuse.

When my son was just starting out, I got him a ruger 308 in the youth model. He never really shot it much. I like it cuz its small, but it does seem to kick more than you'd like. Ended up putting on one of those shock-absorbing butt plates on it. It shoots nice but is a tad bit "unforgiving". If I had to do it again, I'd probably go with the 7mm-08. Its basically the same shell as the 243, just a bigger caliber.

Thanks guys, I did clean it although it didn't look "that dirty". Seems to work fine now. Lesson learned.
