  1. Heck, just stick that 300WSM in a Boyds laminate stock and a nice soft recoil pad. Get the length of pull exact and put a soft cheek rest on it and you will dramatically reduce felt recoil. The money you save can buy a bunch of ammo for practice cause ammo aint cheap either. Even less expensive, make a small sand bag that you can stick in the rifle's hollow buttstock for target practice. You'll probably be able to add a pound or two to the weight of your rifle and that will dramatically reduce recoil.
  2. Sounds like you want a more pleasant/enjoyable rifle to hunt and target shoot. In that case, the exact caliber probably isn't as important as the stock. One thought, shoot a bunch of different rifles (if that is possible) and find out what jives with you. Maybe even a custom fitted rifle is in your future.

    Hopefully not your cam!

I'm not sure what to think. To be honest it's almost funny if it wasn't for the fact that it is proof of how unethical some folk are.

3 minutes. Not as fast as Ronda Rousey, but that's fast.
  6. Like others have already stated, the 260 Nosler Accubond would make for a flat shooting long range hammer that would be as good as it gets on a windy day.

    30-06 for coues

I like to test the versatility for the rifles that I shoot. I handload and do plenty of load development and testing. Here is my take on your question. My 30-06 shoots 125gr bullets very well. My loads chrony around 3200 fps with a 125gr bullet from a 22" barrel. 125gr bullets fired from a 30-06 will have a trajectory that is comparable to similar weight bullets fired from a 270 win or 7mm. As people have stated, higher impact velocities will damage more meat, so it's a trade off. More meat damage for flatter trajectory. Another benefit of a heavier and slower bullet is less wind shear. Lighter faster bullets will be a lot more subject to wind conditions. In my hunting experience, wind conditions will often determine my max shooting range more than trajectory does.

    Remington 700 BDL 30-06

I'm putting money into my truck right now otherwise I'd go for it. Not much of a Rem guy, but that one is just about the perfect Rem package, in my opinion.

    Rain gauge info

I think this is a good idea. What I'd like to see is a separate room for weather reports here at Coues. In the room. there would be threads defined by hunting district. Therefor, a person would post their info in to the thread of the hunt unit in which their data was derived. The topic/title of the original post would define the exact area for data. Say a person draws a tag for an area, a person would be able to learn a lot about that unit by looking at weather reports for that unit. I think it could be a popular attraction of this sight. It should be the efforts of this forum to have the information needed here and not re-direct people away from this sight to somewhere else.

    THEFT, yes THEFT!

I do not go into pawn shops, so I wonder, are pawn shops selling a bunch trail cams? I mean, where are all these stolen trail cams going? Considering the widespread occurrences, it obviously not just a couple of bad actors, here. I am not too surprised when they are stolen from water holes or stolen next to the road, but on private property or miles off the beaten path, that's harsh. Disturbing.

    Just another statistic, kid

^^^ amen to that. I think there are a few bad apples in every bunch. When the total quantity of apples is increased, consequently, so does the total number bad apples.

    Just another statistic, kid

Well it happened. Last week I put a camera on a tank. I have been avoiding being so bold with camera placement, but I went and did it. Then on Friday, it occurred to me that it was the Weekend of the 4th of July and I better move my cam. I raced up there and got that camera moved to a spot I thought was safer. It was away from the water but not far enough from water/road evidently. I knew the cam placement was a little risky, but not many folk have been back here all summer, so I rolled the dice. I went up this afternoon and camera is gone. Dang it. Well I knew I was taking a risk and I lost. It sucks to know that there are such scumbags among our hunting community. It's not surprising, still sucks.

    Designated Dispersed Camping

This stuff makes my head hurt. If it ain't marked, sue me. I am in agreement with many of the road closures, but if it ain't marked. Oh' well. Like many have already stated, it sure sucks to walk into an area just to have some yahoos on atvs or whatever coming in and disturbing and upsetting every critter in the area including me. I don't even know what "dispersed camping" means.

recommendations for ground blind and trail cam

oops, wrong thread. Anyways, I have a Browning Phantom X blind and I love it. As far as trail cameras go, I have a few different kinds and it seems to me that they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

    brush country bull almost done?

Today, I was watching a very big bull and it appeared to be rubbing the tips of it's antlers every once in a while as it browsed. Was acting like the tips were itching. Sorry no pics. I didn't even have glass, but it was only a hundred yards across a little bowl, so it was easy to see.

    brush country bull almost done?

The date on the cam is off by one month and one day, so the real date should be 11 July. Now, judging by the tips of the antlers, being that they are quite pointed, this bull must be close to done growing. Am I right, that a bull can be finishing up in the second week of July? This guy popped up out of nowhere, on a cam in the low country.

    Anybody have non-operational game cams?

How about a camera as bait in front of a hidden 10 foot deep pit lined with punji sticks covered with du du.

    brush country bull almost done?

Thanks for the replies. These cams are quite the educational tool. Up until now, my elk calendar has been off by a month. Things happen much quicker than I originally believed.

19a - Here is the biggest I have gotten on film so far this year. That pic is a month old. I didn't draw a deer tag this year, so I am just getting these pics for fun and sum lurn'n.
