Who'd welcome a veteran into your Oct. 25 deer camp?

My mother is going in for back surgery or I would set a camp up and help. -

What? Didn't have your lawyer with you?

So many deer moving along the fire's edge right now. Problem is, if shooter hits the deer and that deer then runs south, shooter ends up in legal conundrum.

Last night, I had a bull freaking out right outside the back of my blind. There was another herd coming down the slope in front of me and every time that herd bull bugled the bull behind me just lost it. He snorted, huffed and puffed and was stomping the ground. For a moment I was sure he was going to start tearing into my blind. Then he must of finally, after a few minutes, caught my scent as he stormed out of there taking the herd with him. Sure exciting.

Updated 8/07/19 - Priced to sell. $600 w/Leupold x2 3x9 ultralight scope I had to take from my silencer fund to pay for bison tag, so now I gotta sale another rifle. I own four Marlin 444 lever action rifles and one of then has to go. Because I am not a collector and I can't bring myself to cut LOP to make it truly work ideally for me, being a '65, I might never hunt with it. I get nervous about doing harm while carrying it into canyons so it's my choice to clear out. I want to give you all first chance at it, so I can avoid FFL hassles. I could get more for it at Marlin Owner dot com, but I'd need to go through the hassle of shipping it. P.M. me for pics. 1965 Marlin 444 in excellent condition - $600

Drain the tank, dredge it and refill it. The perpetrator can pay the bill and some jail time.

I've seen a similar bull recently, but not the same one. Congratulations

Had a bull at 20 yards at last light, but I have a cow tag. I had an opportunity to watch two bulls fighting by full moon light.

I dig the mass that bull has. Congrats

I pulled my blinds out of 8. I hate when it gets crowded. Last year, during late rifle, I hunted close to the roads. Ended up feeding critters out to the road hunters. Sure can frustrate a guy. Ya gotta have some help if you are fixing on dropping one down in them canyons.

first whitetail hunt in unit 8
MT_Sourdough replied to Antpv93's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Early in the season is tougher for sure. At least from what I have observed. I do not spend much of my time in the deep canyons so what I have seen more whitetail bucks in December and January. Right now, I can find WT does super easy right along common roads, but the bucks don't show up until closer to the rut. -
Looks like a nice buck, especially foe 21. Congrats

Unit 17a, things cooled down last night and the Kimche hit the fan. They were so wound up this morning that I had elk bugle back at me when i coughed or used the zipper on my tent. The cows were very vocal as well. Like when parents leave teenagers home alone. Crazy wild.

I just came back from up there. There are currently 2 fires burning in the Camp Wood area. The Sheridan fire is closer to Bagdad and the Pemberton Fire south of CampWood Road. I had a talk with a Game and Fish Warden up there and he told me that they plan to let both fires burn. In fact they are adding ignitions to the naturally started fire to assist it's burn. The Warden said that the fire crew plans to let the Pemberton Fire burn all the way to the Camp Wood Road. Right now the fire is a few miles to the south of Camp Wood Road. As the Warden explained, if and when the Pemberton fire gets near Camp Wood Road, they will close the road. He said, if you are already up there, you may need to leave via the Bagdad route. It sounds like they anticipate that around this weekend. The Sheridan fire also poses a possible threat to the Bagdad route as well. The warden suggested a person might look for alternatives to hunting in the area. So Heads Up to anybody planning on hunting in the area over the next week or so.

Lucky she didn't use the deer rifle.

Unit 17a, 17b and 18b archery hunters- Heads Up!

UPDATE: 8/30/19 Walnut Creek Rd is open or will be open tomorrow. but everything south of Walnut Creek Rd is considered in the fire area and is closed. That means Camp Wood Rd and every road between Camp Wood Rd and Walnut Creek is currently CLOSED. Prescott National Forest says they project that Camp Wood Rd will open on Sept 1, but that is highly suspect.
