Thanks for the replies. I now have two Dave Smith hen decoys and they look great. I took a chance on a Flambeau Jake decoy that was on sale for $17. Thought it might work but I am not impressed and I may just use it for an archery target. I think I might get the Avian X LCD quarter strut decoy. I didn't want to get a full strut at this point as I am afraid they may scare away as many gobblers as they attract. This guy above, on the other hand, looks like a 4 eyed pencil neck geek asking to get his lunch money taken from him.

22-250 Howa !500 Ranchland Compact Kings Desert Shadow
MT_Sourdough posted a topic in Classified Ads
I have a 22-250 Howa !500 Ranchland Compact in full Kings Desert Shadow. Rifle has a 20" lightweight barrel and set in Hogue overmolded stock. It's a combo package with Nikko Sterling 2.5 x 10 scope with sun shade. With Rifle, I'll throw in matching soft case, 4 boxes of factory Ammo, die set with neck and full length sizer dies. 100 pc brass or so. I bought rifle for coyote hunting but I can't bring coyotes home so I am going to move the rifle to pay for other stuff. Priced to sell fast. Everything for $400. Located in Chino Valley -

444 brass - how many times fired?

There are a few small herds in the far northern part of the unit that wander from the river up into the draws between woodchute mt. and the river. They are always moving and hard to pattern, but their tracks are not hard to find. Look in ranges that are not holding cattle.

Notice how they say that they won't sell off the land in Nevada and then turn around and admit they are going to sell like 22% of the states federal public lands to afford the administrative costs of land transfers? The administrative and maintenance costs will not disappear after the first year. Year after year, costs of administration and maintenance of public lands will supercede revenues requiring future sales. This has been well documented by Republican led investigations into the issue as it pertains to Utah. Utah will be next followed by Arizona, Wyoming and Idaho. In Montana, the Governor ran on a platform of resisting the sell of public lands so this issue has been debated there. In regards to this issue, in Arizona, crickets. All the while the mainstream media intentionally ignores this activity? Can you say Wall Street? This could set off conflicts in the West that aren't yet in the scope of the existing debate, but just think about it's impact on Water Rights in the West for one.

This is it!!! This is just the tip of the iceberg. Will you all watch our public lands and our way of life being taken from us because of blind partisanship. Don't trust the AZG&F to tell you the truth because they have already shown their hand in partisan support of the sale off agenda.

Backcountry vehicle recovery specialists in Prescott area?
MT_Sourdough posted a topic in The Campfire
My truck has a security feature called Pass Lock where a sensor in the ignition detects the presence of the key and sends a code to the truck's brain. At around 90k to 100k miles, it is typical for the resistor in the system to wear out and the defect causes the passlock feature to be engaged and prevents engine from firing. Well, it happened to me and my truck is miles waaay out past the Yolo Ranch on 21A. There is a 50/50 chance that the next time I try to start it, that it will fire right up. Typically, after some time, the computer disengages the pass lock feature and the sensor works correctly. But if it doesn't? This is a problem with the brain of the engine and not a simple mechanical fix. So, my question is, Is there an outfit out of the Prescott area that specializes in retrieving vehicles from the backcountry? -

Trucks still there! We went up there today and it still wouldn't start. Tried jumping it as if that might do something. Nadda. Nice 6 1/2 hour drive and I retrieved my hunting stuff from the truck. -

I appreciate it, but it looks like I have a ride lined up. To answer your question, it is about 1/2 way between the Yolo Ranch and Half way house rd. The biggest reason why I mentioned a side by side is because there are some folk who wouldn't want to subject their truck to that stuff. It's right in the middle of the road looking north overlooking the draw that runs down to Layne Tank. I had to make a road around my truck before I left, so folk can get around it. -

no onstar on my truck. I am betting it will fire up once I get up there again. It's been a little more difficult to obtain a ride back up there than I anticipated. Anybody with a side by side want to make some money? I have already put it out there that I'll gladly pay somebody $150 cash for a ride from Willamson Valley road/ Camp Wood road intersect up to my truck. I'd rather give that a try before I hire a retrievel outfit. -
Mount a 20mm cannon or tow missiles on a swivel in the bed and you got an ISIS fighter Then offer a bonus point in Arizona's big game draw for every isis fighter you kill and ISIS would be history. C'mon Call it the great Syrian Duck hunt 2017.

Ya, I tried for 5 hours. Disconnected the battery for a while, let it sit for an hour, tried different key and all. I even had a new spare battery that I installed. I was by myself and miles from my camp, so I decided at 4:30 that if I want to be back at my camp before dark, I need to start hump'n. I got back to my camp before dark and then yesterday morning I went down to the ranch hoping to hitch a ride, but there was zero traffic in 4 hours of waiting. I saw the mounted Cowboys head out at 6 am so I figured they'd be back around noon. They were and one of the young cowboys volunteered to give me a ride down to the Williamson Valley store for a 30 pack and gas money. -

My truck is an 09 Chevy Colorado. I do not know if they put this system in their full sized trucks, but it is a well known defect with the midsize Colorado and GMC Canyon. Thanks for the link yo the off road recovery specialists. I think I will look for somebody to pay to go up and try to start it once more and then if it wont start, I then call the the pro outfit. At $175 an hour, the cost can add up quicckly cuz it's at least 2.5 hours both ways. -
They were scream'n demons last night and on through the morning. Never heard so much bugling. Had a nice 6x6 in my camp two days in a row. He must know I am holding a cow tag.

Is it possible to hunt elk each year as an AZ resi?

Maybe I am wrong on that. It's just something I heard as I have yet to get into archery myself. He can get one point for starters, anyways. -

I moved here from Montana several years ago. In a perfect world I'd still be in Montana, but Arizona isn't so bad. I live in Chino Valley and can be in the hills in a matter of minutes. Rifle range is 5 minutes away. Mild winters with virtually no snow and mild summers (as compared to Phoenix area). There are some different strategies to keep a hunter happy in AZ. 1) get a hunting buddy or two that you work together like a team and you increase your chances of being out there even if you aren't the elk tag holder. 2) scouting as a new person coming here for the first time there is a lot of area to familiarize yourself with to keep you busy for a few years. It's BIG country. 3) diversify start predator hunting. Go after skunk pigs. There's bears and Mountain lions to go after. 4) archery deer there are lots of opportunity for archery deer hunting with OTC tags Personally, I run solo, but learning/scouting the area is still keeping me as busy as I want to be. In Arizona, the seasons are short, but that means you need to put in a lot of time scouting if you expect to have much success when the season comes. Oh yea, I've drawn a limited opportunity tag for three years in a row now. one more thing, take an AZ hunters ed course and archery ed course and earn yourself a couple of draw points right from the start.
