The Deckers I've used were a lot better built and more comfortable for the beast. I think its easier for one person to lift up a pannier and attach it to a Decker than a sawbuck. But in some instances a sawbuck tree makes for a good spot to carry tent poles or a cot. I've used them to hang bow scabbards, too. Plastic panniers can be configured in camp as a nice cook station. Many are manufactured for attaching legs and making a table or stove top. The plastic panniers can act like pontoons. One of the Cowboys I packed with found that out when his pack horse broke away on Sheep Bridge over the Verde. They were almost across the bridge when his pack horse, Elvis spun around and raced back across the bridge and decided to swim across. The hard panniers kept him afloat and relatively dry too when he came ashore 1/4 mile downstream. The fabric panniers can be rolled up and put away on a ride if not in use. But they will wear out eventually. You can always fabricate your own panniers for specific needs like wood with a shelf for carrying salt blocks, battery etc

Here's a video of the spot. Incidently I mine in the same wash. It's a couple miles north of Morristown in the San Domingo Wash. Turn up the volume for some world class yodelling.

200 miles off but thanks for playing. According to Google Earth, it's less than 17 miles to my hacienda.

The ol lady has blonde moments, a lot of them. Pressing her for details on the boating she utters the words..."Lk Shasta." I correct her, it's Lk Tahoe. No, they've rented the boat on Shasta. She can't understand why I'm a little bummed. My contempt for CA could fill volumes

Just returned from out shooting the 45 70 Rolling Block with the 12gr Red Dot loads. What a hoot! Will head out with the 13gr charge soon. Anyone on the west side with a chrono like to go to the range I belong to? Lunch is on me, burger or chili at the Wildhorse.

I can spare half a bottle.

What, you can hunt Turkey anywhere in CA?

You want the Minelab Equinox 800. A friend of mine is a Minelab dealer, he's loaned an Equinox to me, great machine.

Yesterday in Gardner Canyon...

I have Deckers and Sawbucks. They each have their advantage and drawbacks. Board fit is essential. I came by my last mule due to someone fitting the beast poorly and causing enough discomfort the mule exploded and ducked off into the wilderness.

Any luck on the lakes closer to your home-20?
-
Yeah I've gambled there. The BFF I mentioned is a resident on the NV side. I'm sure portions of the lake near docks will be a zoo. I'll be as far as possible from the clusters.
