    Anyone remember this?

12 hours of hard labor (.35cents an hour)on the ranch and 2 weeks of pestering the grandparents for a ride into town to the Western Auto Store. When a carton went to $5, I thought there was no way anyone would pay that.

    Trailer Service

I'm offering a service for hunters, campers to get their trailers road worthy or customized and avoid costly breakdowns. Not sure that fits under the term 'Commercial Dealer?' But I do appreciate the opportunity, thanks for the PM's.

    Which Scope for ML

As long as you only use a spear or longbow for archery season. LOL that's the spirit, and I do use a longbow, but would probably have better success with a spear.

    Which Scope for ML

Here's a thought, why not use use iron sights like our fore-fathers did? Isn't a hunt with a sense of anachronism the intent behind the ml season? Certain to have my head handed to me for such an outrageous concept.

    Deer In The PHX Valley

Not counting the White Tanks, closest I've seen deer to the valley is New River RD and Hwy 74 But I bet there are some on the alfalfa field at night near Lone Peak and 303

    Remember these ?

Reminds me of some of the metal tags on dads mounts from the '40's and 50's. If you didn't like your deer, you could just take the tag off, shoot another deer and put it on another rack.
  10. Spent the last several days in the hills west of Tonopah, retrieving and moving trail cams and a little varmit calling. Got pics of some big bobcats and after about 40 minutes of calling, a big bobcat came into within 35-40 yards. But I was after a lion. Headed back to break camp and load the horse and hit the road for home. Got on the Sun Valley Pky and at about 6;15pm and just a couple miles short of Bell RD, an animal came out of the brush and stepped into my lane. Holy Crap it was a mountain lion! I braked hard and just missed it as it walked north across four lanes, but not much traffic. Wasn't the biggest lion in town but was headed straight towards Wittman, passed the Shell station there on the parkway. I'm after a lion, but tread marks on the rug might be a little suspicious. Here's a partial pic of the bobcat I saw The other day.

    "Packing Jobs"

Sorry Swarovskicoues, thought you were looking for facts and not a rubberstamp, next time I'll lie to you if it helps. But here's some free advice and you can thank me later. Apply for this position you want with a licensed guide and gain some experience in the field, get paid and heck, you might even learn how real guides operate. Just trying to help keep your butt out of a world of hurt, must be my fatherly instincts kicking in.

    "Packing Jobs"

Thanks for the laugh. I'm as disgusted and frustrated as anyone with the gov. They want to stick their nose into every aspect of your life. 2 years ago I started looking into outfitting part time and be compensated for the outfitting I was doing for free. The research was worse than eating broken glass. But there it is, your welcomed, don't forget to shoot the messenger.

    "Packing Jobs"

I dont recall him asking for "info", but rather asking if anyone wants him to pack out or glass for them. "Wondering if anybody knew about getting a job for hunts to be a packer....." Just so happens I know something about it, here's the law. Take it or leave it, this is your government at work. How or where did I mention politics? If you want to guide or pack under the table, that's your business. But I'm old enough to know how quickly things roll downhill with one mishap you weren't covered for.

    "Packing Jobs"

The OP cares he asked for info. If you want to help others for free, knock yourself out that's what friends are for. You want to earn a paycheck doing it, jump thru all the hoops the licensed guides and outfitters had to navigate. Once you learn how difficult it is to be a licensed guide or outfitter, you'll have a new appreciation for them.

From Title 43 Special Permits Dept of Interior 2932.14 ( ... providing services to hunters, trappers, or anglers must obtain Special Recreation Permits from BLM. Appendix E: Special Recreation Permit Stipulations for Outfitters and Guides A current insurance policy must be maintained that provides for the minimum levels of liability insurance ($500,000 bodily injury for any one person, $1,000,000 annual aggregate, and $30,000 property damage for any one occurrence) are in effect. Your policy must name the United States Government, as additionally insured and stipulate that you or your insurer will notify BLM at least 30 calendar days in advance of termination or modification of such insurance.

The OP said he wanted to "help glass". That's aiding in the taking of wildlife. If you want to help pack and profit from that on any federal land, you need insurance, special use permit and licensed in that state if one is needed. Simply put, the feds fear being sued. If you're insured, the insurance co. handles litigation and knowing your financially responsible puts Uncle Sam at ease. As far as I interpret the AZ statutes, AZ does not differentiate between guiding and outfitting. I've been looking at every angle of the law for sometime, as I do outfitting. I don't want to be in the position of defending AZ law, they wrote it not me. But I do understand the rational behind it even if I don't like it. If you've found a legal and responsible way of circumventing the law as I've read it time and time again, you'll have my gratitude.

Sounds like a lot of fun, but under AZ statutes, you'd need a Guide License for what you described. Have you read the definition of a 'Guide' in the state of AZ? Their term for guide is fairly all inclusive in it's ambiguity but your only out may be to act as a serpa that works for free. Any compensation would be considered "pay." ARS 17-362 R12 4 208 A guide license issued from the Arizona Game and Fish Department is required for any person who, for pay, aids or assists another in the taking of wildlife in Arizona. If you're doing what you described on Federal Lands, you'll need a lot more than a license; special use permit, insurance and a possible bond. And the feds won't give you that permit without demonstrating experience as a guide. However, the feds will let you act as a guide or outfitter w/o license so long as you don't 'profit' in the endeavor, but you can be compensated for your expenses. However, that doesn't mean you won't need an AZ Guide license. Confused yet?

    Redneck Road Rage

To the lady driver; Inciting others to behave badly should not be cause for celebration. You got your 10 minutes of fame, now sloth back into your dark, dank hole, watch soaps and bury your jowls back into a box of Bon-Bons where you have little effect on others. Dude in the truck; Is this your first time driving? Grow the heck up and try decaf. Had you injured some one with your adolescent driving inabilities, you should be shot without benefit of a blindfold. As for me, I drive in a bubble of joy and harmony.

Just said goodbye to a Great friend

We hound lovers question why the good Lord chooses to take our four legged buddies so soon. Seems they're here just long enough to train us on how much we should enjoy life, show undying love, patience and comfort us when we are down. Then in the blink of an eye they race ahead and cross that bridge. So when that day comes when we can join them again, they'll be anxiously waiting to show us the best spots in heavens fields to flush those quail and travel down easy trails thru gentle streams and tall cool grass.

  21. I've been listening to KTAR in the shop, AM radio is a no go with the lights. So I'm driving yesterday with KTAR on and the commentators start whipping up hysteria over whether or not this plane could be used someday to attack the USA. I wanted to reach thru the radio and slap the airway morons for their ignorance on the topic of radar and their inability to find facts. Mostly, there is no flying under US radar, we have it covered. I joined the USAF at the end of the Carter Admin. (now the second worst president in US History) Trained to operate the FPS-77 radar, and old but excellent unit that was actually a B-52 air to air radar and was scavenged for USAF WX stations to interrogate cloud formations. After weather school, I was sent as an aid to the chief meteorologists for NORAD 26th Air Defense HQ. Once there, I spent the next several years training on radar systems from ground and flight control to tactical and Doppler (And at NORAD I did get to see the BIG MAP . We Americans are fortunate that our hard work and love of freedom has built the best military on the planet. Any aircraft, big or small, entering US airspace is interrogated, long before it reaches our soil. If that aircraft is not talking back to us, interceptors are scrambled for a visual and more than likely, forced down or if need be, taken down. Thanks for letting me vent.
  22. We are hearing that several countries may or may not have seen the plane on their radar. I can assure you, if an unidentified echo appeared on an American radar, it would be a big, big deal and the sighting would be brought to a favorable conclusion. Because some of these countries are so relaxed with airport security and air control, they're not allowed to fly here. I've flown to China and the Philippines many times, often at bargain rates on a milk run. Lucky to still be here, but what an education. Hoping the families of the passengers and crew find peace.
  23. Here's what I think happened, it's pretty boring compared to some of the theories . Fire on board, communications capabilities lost. Pilot turns back and takes the plane up to 45,000 to extinguish the fire. Navigation systems fried, pilot is using celestial navigating and looking for a suitable landing spot. None found, eventual splash.
  24. The transponders are onboard and squawking for the safety of the aircraft. But that transponder signal had to relate to a specific aircraft (tail numbers), on a preapproved and filed corresponding flight plan. Here's how it worked at NORAD decades ago when I was a young buck. Airman stood at a mostly coastal map of the US that was the size of a theater screen. The 26th Air Defense entailed the airspace from El Paso TX to Vancouver, BC. Every blip that occurred on that radar map that was heading in to US airspace, had a cursor placed on it. Instantly a window would appear giving the aircrafts speed, heading and elev. All aircraft coming into our airspace must have a flight plan on file and the planes ID will show up in that window when interrogated. No flight plan, no tail numbers appearing in the box, the nearest fighter interceptors are launched to make a visual, friend or foe. Not sure what the protocol was as far as the decision deciding on forcing the offending aircraft down or splashing it.
  25. Thanks for the kind words. But when I compare my stint in the service to others, I'm truly humbled. My kids too have served, son is a marine combat vet and daughter retrieved wounded marines off the field in Iraq. They are my heroes.
