    bore sighting

I'll set the laser out 100 yards tonite, shoot at paper tomorrow when I go out calling and post a pic.. . Admin, this started out as an ad, please move if need be.
  2. Top rifle is an M88 in .243 I inherited from my mom, it's killed a lot of deer, antelope and pigs. Middle rifle is a Navy Arms in .357, with an 18" barrel, killed 2 pigs with it. It's also the go to gun when livestock needs put down. It's a nice light rifle you hardly notice in a saddle scabbard or shouldered on a hike. Packs a punch, though. Dad picked it up at a garage sale in the '60's for 75$. Bottom is an old Gamemaster in 30-06 we refer to as the meat pole. 10 round mag gives it a BAR look. I've also killed a Mule deer with an 1874 Win .32-40 blackpowder saddle carbine and offed a Columbian Blacktail with a Winchester 1917, both with iron sights.

    NW Valley is FLOODED

One of the worst I've seen in years and it's still pouring. Watched the neighbors box trailer take down a 4' tall chain link fence and float away., I couldn't do anything to help. Another neighbor has a 16' livestock trailer half submerged. Watched a frog float by waving a white flag....pictures soon. Nobody will be able to get in or out of here anytime soon. The ol' lady staying at her dads. Good thing I stocked up on beer and steaks yesterday.

    bore sighting

This was too easy to set up. Put the M88 on the nightstand and shined the laser level in on the firing pin. Aimed at a wall 52' away and set the cross hairs about an inch and half below. I'll set it up tonight and zero in on something 100 yards out on the vacant neighbors place. Laser is too weak to see 100yards in the daylight.
  6. Congrats to you all and your little huntress!

Model 88 Win, cant see down the bore. Went by the range and at 25 yards, wasn't on the paper. Was a foot low at 10 yards but only had a half box with me, really went there to shoot an old .45 I;ve got a lazer, maybe I can aim it at the barrel 25 yards out?

Does anyone know what this is?

And while taking their milk away, why not give them that Hanibal Lecter look they crave? 'Silence of the cows.'

    Reindeer

There's a woodlands variety of Caribou living in north central WA I was hoping to get a glimpse of when I was there. Last I checked their numbers were pretty low. Did bag me a few nice Columbian Blacktails though and encountered a lynx.

You'd put the flap in a calf you want to wean, about 5 or 6 months old as you run it thru a chute. You won't take the flap out again unless you are running the animal thru a chute again, flap doesn't affect their eating or drinking, so you can just leave it in if you're not needing to put that animal thru a squeeze. Why would you want to handle a big dumb animal more than necessary? Got coues to track. Without the flap, calves and cows were separated at weaning by a fence and both would run their weight off and tear the fences down, injure themselves and the calves would not eat well and bawl. Maybe a cattleman will correct me, but I think that's a nose flap. I think I see cactus in his face, too. If you survive pulling that flap out, might as well go for the cactus too.lol

Looks like a nose flap for weaning calves. Instead of pulling the calf off the cow which stresses both out, this flap prevents the weanling from nursing. Mama cow dries out and everybody's happy, happy. Go ahead and remove it, they're reusable. lol

While there are different subspecies of caribou, I've heard the difference between caribou and reindeer is, a reindeer is a domesticated caribou.

    Reindeer

No, I was too stupid while in the military, was offered orders to King Salmon and while thinking about it, someone else snatched them. But I did land in Shemya, AFB once. I worked the fisheries up there from 1997-2000, 3 snow crab, I herring, 1 pollock and a salmon season on catchers and tenders. You see unbelievable things up there you'll never forget; ie, wildlife, desolate ice flows, glow in the dark algae, watched a Fijian deckhand turn a live octopus inside out and eat its hearts while they were still beating. You don't see that everyday in AZ. . Have you taken in the northern light show?

    Reindeer

Great pics, but I don't miss being there much. Fished for herring there and crab in the Pribilofs I worked at St Michaels and in the Pribilof Islands 15 years ago. The reindeer were probably put on the island by Russian meat traders 200 years ago, they did so on the Pribilofs just below St Michaels . They also put foxes on the islands for the fur trades and the foxes did a lot of damage to the seal rookeries. The domestic foxes are white or a blue/black. The reds are wild, artic fox are white. Once while trying to land at St Paul, the runway was littered with reindeer and flight operations personal had to go out and chase them from the flight way. One of the crewman on my boat at St George was a native and shot a reindeer on St Paul. Good eatin. I brought the rack all the way back to Tucson and gave it to my dad. I still cant believe he cut them up for arts and crafts.
