Just talked to a couple different buddies in unit 1. They both said the bugling has dropped way off since Sunday night. They said that they have watched bulls rutting cows but they wouldn't call any. Probly just a lull due to the pressure and hopefully it will pick up in a day or two. There sure has been some big bulls killed across the state. I've seen pics of 5 different 400"+ bulls already! Love this time of year...

Was up there all weekend too. Definitely not what it was last year...but still had some action. We heard ALOT of bugling at night but they quit not long after light. Horn growth doesn't seem to be as strong as last years either. Very very wet up there!

Congrats on your tags. I wish I knew the area but unfortunately have never hunted it. Hopefully some people will give you some help. Cool to hear its a family event!! Best of luck to you.

I have to tell you a story about my oldest daughter. When she was about 4or 5 years old I decided to take her on a dove hunt to see how she accepted it. She had been on many camping outings and such but hadn't ever been exposed to the blood and such. Well after a little while of sitting a dove flew over and I winged him. She jumped up, super excited that I had got one, and went to retrieve him. When we got to him I was perplexed to see that he wasn't dead, just wounded. She chased and caught him and immediately began the task of nurturing this little bird. I was horrified. My best laid plan had went way wrong...instead of hardening her, I seemed to have made it that she would never want to hunt herself. For about the next 15 minutes, I sat there scanning the skies and listened to the sound of her talking endlessly to the dove. When I was just about ready to throw in the towel, her beautiful little voice asked me a question I will never forget, "Daddy, can I pull his head off now?" Oh the relief I felt at that moment!!! Don't worry, daughters are an absolute gift from God! Enjoy it.

Opening Day Buck, First Archery Deer Down
mc68 replied to darrcolburn's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Darr, thank you for teaching our younger generation that they don't need to start off as "trophy" hunters. So many people these days get caught up in pushing our kids to horn hunt and they miss out on so many neat experiences, IMO. Dont get me wrong, any animal with your bow is a trophy and I think the smile on that young mans face explains just how happy you can be with an animal that doesn't make it into the record books. Congratulations to the both of you. Well done. -
Parker Colburn's 2013 AZ Archery Deer
mc68 replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
I too want to offer congratulations on your first, of which I am sure will be many, big game animals with a bow. I really want to give a HUGE thumbs up to Dad here. It is so great to see an accomplished hunter and outfitter teaching his kids that they don't need to start off being hung up on antler size! I bet it did not make any difference that it wasn't a P&Y class animal. Very glad to see this great lesson being taught. Way to go to all involved and again, great job!!! -
I hunted 3C a few years ago and most of the tanks on the North side of the highway were dry going into the hunt. On about the 9th day of the hunt a storm came through and filled up 4 of the tanks I had been planning to hunt. This happened in literally about an hour. It was really too late to do much good for me though...If I were you I would definitely come up with some other plans though, don't bank on them getting water. IMO its more fun stalking them anyway. Best of luck to you.

I think if you can help out a fellow outdoorsman, why wouldn't you? It seems to me that this is exactly why there should be s site such as Cwt.com...a place for us to come together and share knowledge. Nothing brothers me more than when someone asks a question on here and you get the smart a** comments like "here we go again". It must be part of getting older because I was definitely a lot more secretive when I was a young buck. Please do all of us a favor and help out those in need and you may just make someone's dream come true.

I was up there last week and it was a lot drier than I expected it to be. All of the surrounding units seemed to have gotten a lot better moisture so far. Roads seemed fine other than very dusty!!
