  1. Well this is another fine thread. Everyone is coveing most of the angles but I will add that whatever you finally choose, you likely will be reloading your own ammo or having someone do it for you. If you want consistent accuracy it will likely take some time to test a few loads before you settle on one and it may even be that you need a couple different loads depending on if you are inside or outside 500 yds.

    A few thoughts though...

Military sniper school trains out past 1000 yds with 300 win mag. Lots of options for that caliber.

The proficient long range shot is a credit to the shooter, the gun, and the optics. Either one being out of sync and you miss the mark.

    Keep it going....

  2. Hmmm..

This can only be part of the master plan to increase hunter opportunity and improve hunter retention. LOL

I gotta wonder if a guy who packs a lunch and has some salt and pepper with him would be fined. What about tossing an apple core down after you have your lunch while hunting?

It would not surprise me if the current baiters were able to convince AGFD that selling permits for 20.00 per species is an ethical solution. AGFD still changes the rules for everyone, but in the interest of more opportunity , you can legally use a bait pile for a price . (I think it's more opportunity for AGFD to buy new trucks, toys and commission overpriced surveys and studies from their lackies) All the opportunity they create is just going to promote poaching.

It has been the beginning of the end since before the time they wimped out on the NR hunt permits the writing haas been on the walls. AGFD is about the BUCK$, and I don't mean deer.

  3. Dang, That's a pretty good deal. I can see it now, Guy says to his boss, "Boss, if I quit, will you hire me back tomorrow? I wanna get a hunting license and if I am unemployed I get it free". Okay, well I quit. See you for the deer hunt.

I bet the Illegals would sue for civil rights violation and fair distribution of free licenses too. It's not thier fault they can't get a job when thye are here illegally.

And like others have said, the purely lazy people already have the system figured out so they do not want to go to work and this is another reason to keep them hooked up and sucking on the government .

    Bad Idea in my opinion.

  4. Josh

I think the clue will be when the guy shows up hunting that area next season. He is likely gonna see some nice pics on that camera he stole and decide that he has "found" his own new honey hole.

Chances are he is pretty stoopid like a lot of theives but even a freakin moron would probably not hunt in the same exact spot, Would they? that said,

I'd bet you are going to keep going back to the spot so even if he sets up near the same spot so you have a chance to see him. A theif like that may only poach deer so look around during off season too!

If you see someone new to the area, Maybe letting him know in conversation that that he looks familar, and that he resembles the guy who stole your stuff. You could let him know that you had another camera in the area that captured the scumsucking pig faced sack of puss toting off your gear.

The reaction would be interesting to see.

Sorry to hear you lost gear and that your honey hole has been compromised. Good luck catching the ba#tard#. Maybe more than 1 of them if it's all gone so quickly? Could he have carried it all out with his own (previously stolen) gear in 1 trip?

  5. Looking into the options and advice it seems the overwhelming opinion is the 22.250. However, I weighed some options and am leaning toward a 22 mag as most of what I'll be shooting is prairie dogs and rabbits. I do have days where I take after someone else on this site who will remain nameless... and blast through so many rounds that the thought of lead poisoning the water table goes through my mind. Them little prairie dogs are so fun to shoot and so many of em, that I could break the bank with a few days like that on anything centerfire.

I know a 22 mag will take out a yote or fox or most any small critter as well, just not out to 300 yards. Still pondering but maybe I need both?

I'm going to research a while more until the snow is gone and the temps warm up a bit morein this oart of the country before making the buy.

thanks for the advice and I'll let you know what road I take.

  6. If the budget is 200 bucks and the time is now, I'd go for the Leupold wind river 10x50 or 8x42 +Cabelas Wind River Binos

But if you could wait a while, and save the xtra cash, the monarchs will set you back about 1 hundred more but if you are not in a hurry, it would be workth the wait. Those gift cards do not expire so if you sign up for one of the cabela's credit cards, and use those bonus $ and points you could cut that extra money down a bit too!

Here is a link to all the the binos that cabela's has to choose from. Nice to see it all in one place.

    Cabela's Bino selection

    Good luck choosing
