  1. Oh my Gosh! Ernesto That is sad and scary all at the same time. Thankfully you had the gun pointed in a safe direction. Too bad about the buck, but it still is a good story and you lived to tell it!and as you said... there is always next year!

    Simple Poachers

Messed up is right. I can't believe the fine is only 100-500 bucks. Idiots like these 2 twits try to give hunters a bad rap. PETA won't be bad mouthing them either cause they are liberal and will pop a few exta dollars in the donation fund.
  3. Taulman and his band of jerks are scum of the earth. I say let anyone EXCEPT him in. Find some way to use the Indian Reservation fees for out of staters. Indians can charge whatever they want. Soverign nation crap, why don't the lawyers go after them. Seems a bit like a cop chasing 2 speeders. He catches the guy at 10mph over and passes on the guy at 50mph over cause it is easier. Lets rev this non resident fee structure up to match the Reservations!

    USO: Lawyer letter to AZGF

That Lawyah, James Scarantino can go RTGY SSDFAETT AERQWER NMRYSFF. Interpretation is he is a lowlife blob of pod scum, and may the prions of a thousand Chronic Wasting Diseased deer infest his body and soul. Whatever the non resident fees are proposed, Triple them. If Scarantino is so concerned about fair and equal treatment, tell him to clean up his own state before looking to AZ. This litigation and political management is the end of hunting as we knew it.

    Rude hunters

The only Quad I have is my Quad cab truck. I am looking to buy one but would would use it as a hauler or a specialty transportation vehicle. Hunting "from" it is not my plan. I have seen too many idiots wreck my hunts on them. My truck is 2wd so I know all about the hiking factor. I can Get my truck into places people think I am nuts for but if it saves a 1/2 mile hike at the end of a long day, It seems worth it. During the hunting season I always try to chat with hunters I pass near to. Observing the people before you make contact is a good practice. If they are intently glassing an area, do not crowd it. Come up and quietly chat about each other's plans so you minimize future conflicts. If they point a gun at you, all bets are off! I make them know I am there by yelling or waving. I don't want to get shot "accidentally" by someone who shoots at anything that moves. It has been said, "It takes all kinds" and knowing that there are other kinds out there, we all must take care of ourselves.
  6. Firefox has some advantages but not all websites work with Firefox, so you still may need to have the IE or Netscape as back-ups. I ahve firefox and use it for 70% of the time I am surfing at home. If you want to stop pop-ups, use the Google toolbar. Easy install and catches most of those pesky pop-ups.

    Rude hunters

I agree the trend seems to be takin care of #1 for many of the newer hunters in the field. So much of the younger culture now is that way so etiquitte is something they do no know! Best thing to do is try to educate them. That too can be scary with the way things are going now. The incident in WI with the dingdong shooting and killing 7 or 8 people when he got in a private treestand on private land. Coues4x4... Those guys pointing rifles at you instead of binocs should be cited for unsafe hunting, and have therir tags pulled. In my younger days I would have thought about lobbing a shot toward them to make them pull thier heads out of their errr... Scopes, but as we age, most of us get some wisdom. Alll are examples of why we could stand to force ALL hunters to complete a hunters safety course before thier first hunt! Fortunately everyone on this board is not in that Rude and Unsafe Group! So there are a few of us left!
  9. How'd you like to own property in that area? You would have every shed hunter for seven states away looking to find last year's rack.

    Treestand Hunting For Coues

Manamal I will sit back and learn on this thread with you. I have not gotten into archery but have considered it with the increasing difficulty of getting drawn for rifle. The salt lick idea seems a good idea although I never considered it. Thinking back, maybe that is why I have seen so many deer and cow tracks in similar areas around water tanks and salt blocks. And the tips from everyone will make it more likely to succeed. Treestands are another story, I hunt places with fewer trees and more open ground so I have never considered one. Lots of canyons and vantage points but again, I have the rifle hunt mindset. I guess I would have to alter that fairly significantly to be a decent archer. the ssaying about an Old dog and new tricks... sort of comes to mind Game cameras are fun too. I will have to refurb mine and have another one to build if I get the gumption. Since I am hoping for a late Coues tag, maybe spring will be when I start heading out to shed hunt and salt lick build. Great topic! Keep those ideas coming.
  11. Josh I know what you mean about not believeing everything you see or hear on the internet. These did not look to be doctored so I figured what the heck, post em with the Iowa Truckload. I emailed them to Amanda, but I think she iw away this weekend. Being this is a coues forum, I did not know where to post them. A friend at work sent the photos and story to me. I hava few more photos but didn't want to tie up CWD server space. The more I think about it, if the photos are hosted on another server, they should not be a problem since they are really only linked to the post. I will post the rest of them for everyone's pleasure and or scrutiny.

San Carlos tag fees way up

Here Here, Lark. Good to have you back!
  13. What they were really shooting at was this deer! Supposedly a new world record and is estimated to sell for 1-2 million dollars if it holds up! here is the story...Believe it or not? This big guy was bagged just North of Macomb, Illinois. Unofficially it is believed to be a new world record. This nontypical buck is a 44 pointer, but could be as much as 48 points. Boone and Crocket has him at 288 points, but it is believed that after a final tally he should have over A 300 score. The head is locked in a local bank vault. After the required 60 day dry-out period, it will be officially scored. If it breaks the record, it could be worth $1-2 million.....bucks !

    December hunt recap

YEEEHAWWW another success story! Great going Tam...
  15. Rembrandt You Definitely wrote a very "HEADY" post to start this thread. So much of what you said was why I have stayed with the site. I have to say, the caliber of members is far and above what other hunting sites I used to frequent have. sure every site has the few Stellar stand outs, but this site does not have the low class killjoys that other sites have. I forget who it was, but someone posted a while back about how he never had worries for his children to look at anything on this site. I have read a fair amount on other hunting sites I would not want my children reading. Special Thanks to Amanda, and a Big cheer to everyone who continues to keep CWD the best site of it's kind.

Which tag to use, 04 or 05?

Interesting question! I would likely use the 04 tag as well. Similar story, I once shot a buck on 12-31 at around noon. I was alone and at least 3 miles hike into where I shot him. On top of that, I was fighting a flue or cold and not feeling too well. I was almost out of water and made the decision to cut the deer in half and carry out the front half with part of my gear. I intended to go back the next day (new year) to get the rest of my gear and the deer. Realizing the problem with the calendar year change, they said as long as it was taken in the year the tag was for, I was okay. I called AZGFD and said I just wanted to let them know I would be bringing out half a deer w/o a tag on 1-1 but that was because the other half had the tag on it and it was at home.3 worked out fine
