Well thanks for all the wishes and pm's from all. I feel fortunate to have such a good forum group to call my internet "home". I may be gettin older but still love to hunt and chat with others like minded. You are only as old as you feel, so I think I will be 29 (for the 15th time!) Thanks again.

One thing I will agree with CHD on, WY has some great hunting. I've hunted in the SE corner of WY a few times. Really Only 1 time as a hunter, and the others as a tagalong extra spotter or packmule. I have relatives who live on the Wyo, Neb border and they have mulies, lopes, whitetail everywhere, and even elk within a couple hours drive plus Moose a bit farther. Relatives have bagged some monsters within 1/2 mile from home. Lots of private land and few good places are public. Land locks too prevent access to many unless you helicopter in. My antelope hunt there was fun! scouted 1/2 day prior to hunting find the heard my Brother-in-law had been eyeing for a few weeks. Then the next morning after securing permission from a local land owner, we drove about 4 miles, parked 1/2 mile from the road, walked 2-300 yards and after climbing a fence the sun was just starting up. The lone buck in the heard must have thought we were a couple bucks moving in on his territory as the sun was coming up! Never got closer to one than that for the whole trip. I dropped him near the Same place we thought he would be after watching the night before. He was only 60 yards from us and coming toward us fairly fast. Spent the next week trying to get 4 more for other family who had met there for the same lope hunt and reunion. (in the end, everyone got decent bucks!) Lots of the private ranchers will let you hunt lopes, but not deer. You may have a tresspass fee to pay and some close off the ranches to anyone. Many ranches make a good amount of money selling premium hunts so they rarely let anyone on without payment. Great fun! Great Country! Great People, Great hunting, Only 2 hours from Cabelas in Sydney NE. ! What more can a guy ask for! Here is a picture of a strange antelope my brother in law took this last season. Check it out!

Performance Contact Lens
az4life replied to DesertBull's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Sounds like the price will be reasonable since they stated the price will be comparable to regular contact lenses. Interesting article. Until the night version is ready I don't think it will help hunters much. Night, Low light could really help. I have the most problem in low light so I would consider anything that would help. Too many years of non-protected vision in AZ took its toll on my eyes. I had cataract surgery last year and overall I can see better than before the surgery comparing no lenses to no lenses, but my "corrected" vision before was slightly better for close up and slightly worse for distance than my uncorrected vision after. I may consider lasik to improve my close up but hey, when you hit 40, your eyes go on vacation and your arms get too short to read. I guess I am in a large group of similar plagued people. Thanks for posting the article. -
Too Bad the AZ senators did not stand up for AZ sportsmen last year when we needed it. Instead we get the Wimpy Weenie Woosy state lawyah's and AZGFD board knuckling under to USO. Wonder if we can re-write the rewritten regs based on the new information. I cannot believe Harry Reid signed on to sponsor it He is so liberal that he makes Ted Kennedy look relatively Conservative. On top of that, he is just plain dumb! . Must be another Harry Reid... Maybe a Stepford Harry.

Boy I wish I had some free time. Work is really a 4 letter word this month and next so I don't think I will get out till after the areas have been scoured by others. Keep me in the loop living vicariously though everyone's finds!

Awesome find! Thanks for posting the picture. What unit? It Looks like it is pretty aged, bleached. I cannot imagine it was out in the open if it was in a popular unit while other hunters were out last year. More info!

Awesome pictures! The last one with the Moon in the background is really sweet! Well correct that... they all are! Keep em coming!

With all those drop tines on different deer, I wonder what is in the water!

Awesome! I would like to see the pair on the buck intact!

Lark Good to hear you are feeling better and looking forward to a Special Hunt. Just wondering though, Are you sure you heard right? Sounds like they might be more like "depraved tags" than "depredation tags" If you "put it" who is going to be your hunting buddy? Maybe the famous eastern white tail hunter Ben Dover?

Strange affliction, Spouting (or Spewing) the names of sponsors and affiliations in whatever they do. It must be something peculiar to Nascar Drivers and I don't think it goes the other way. Last Nov. I drove a NASCAR Busch series Race Car at PIR in the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Wheeeeeweeee After my 30 Laps, Even though I had a tie for the fastest laps, I didn't hop out of the car reeling off the names of the sponsors on the car. I don't think I could have done it for a while anyway with that ear to ear grin. Definitely not for the faint of heart or overly cautious drivers. But What Fun!

Sounds like a success all around! I will have to put in for that tag next year!

Tough to take after all the effort you put into the hunt. When I come back empty handed after preparing the way you did, I have afriend who says, "that is why they call it HUNTING, and not KILLING" Take pleasure in the many things you enjoyed and would not have seen if you were not in the field. Lots of Good Coues, Coati's, Scenery, and heck, you are probably in better shape than you have been in for a long time if you are like me. Finally, if there is a Honey do list at home, at least you know you are needed!

A planned 1 hour surgery turned into a 4 hour surgery? Wonder who gets the bill for overtime on that one! Sounds like it could be the start of a new thread! What is your guess why Lark's Surgery took so long! Could be he was so tough the scalpal kept gettin dull... Maybe he was (as my folks used to say) Full of Pith n vinegar.... Or maybe just full of something else... I dont think Lark is a lawyer, but maybe his is similar to the lawyer situation below: A few surgeons were discussing the merits of working on different people. One said the best patient is an electrician; all of their organs are color-coded. "No." said the next surgeon. "Librarians insides are catalogued and indexed!" "You're both wrong!" said the next doctor. " Lawyers are the best. They are spineless, gutless, and heartless, plus their heads and butts are interchangeable." Purely for comedic value since laughter IS the best medicine. Heading for the bunker now! I'll be "prairie doggin" for a while...

WOW that is nice! Wish I had Dish...

Ouch! Sitting at the PC is probably not even the worst place though!

You got the part about coming back with some stories right.

JVS That quote is new to me, but I see exactly where it went. We cannot let the libs turn us into another Australia. They get a foot in the door for control and next thing you know it is an all out ban. When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!
-
The last line in the article, about how not every home should have a gun, but the criminals should think that every home has one, Says it quite well. If the crooks are worried that ANYONE might have a gun, then they might think a bit more about committing crimes.

Until We see some proven justification for the increase, I think we all need to question the motives. When questioning government agency motives... Follow the money... The AZGFD is supposed to serve the people's interests to manage the game resources of the state. In this case, They are increasing the tags, and this will most likely the increase the overall harvest. Maybe they are trying to cover budget shortfalls by reducing the heards thus giving them less game to manage. This would be the equivalent of an AZGFD' tantrum.

Interesting take on the top[ic. On the surface the announcement sounds positive but after thinking about it, I agree that it would seem nearly impossible for the AZGFD to already have adequate data on the heard increases to make a good call on this. I think past threads have indicated an optomistic concensus that we should have a good year due to all the recent rains, but this seems to be jumping the gun a bit. The department should primarily be managing Arizona's Game, not the burro-crats and employees of the department. Ronald Reagan had a lot to say about government and their approach to problems. While often humorous, they were mostly dead on. this AZGFD decision seems to be another example. "Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other." "No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!" "The most terrifying words in the English langauge are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help. " Nothing like starting the day off with a few good Ronald Reagan quotes! Have a great day.

Keith, You beat me to that one! Purely for comedic Value!

Cellualr trail cams
az4life replied to DesertBull's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
All for that in Iraq. One other use for these might be Law enforcement! The Deer "robot" that the AZGFD is an interesting item, but imagine putting a few of these out along popular trails to watch for trespassers or poachers? Big brother can use any good idea for bad, if given the chance. -

Very cool. Probably very Pricey. If that was the only option besides 35mm, I might be inclined to use 35's since the monthly service fees on the phone would buy quite a few rolls of film and developing. but when money is no object, I bet they will sell a lot of them. Would be nice if they could set it up on one of those pre-paid cellular set-up so the monthly fees don't kill you.
