When in Rome, do as the Romans... if you are in the west, you count points as we do in the west ie. 2x3 or 4x4, not including eyeguards. I really boils down to the old line, You say tomatoe I say tomato.

Strange but this "redneck" thread. is showing up directly above the "free Elk Pee" thread. Now that is redneck! -
the redneckedest thing ever
az4life replied to .270's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Hardbound Cabelas? Purely a marketing ploy! It keeps the Rednecks using the BA$$ Pro catalog in the outhouse. Them thar Cabelas fellers are purdy Smart. -
Just like deerslam said, use your normal (at least a week) hunt by getting out early to spot your deer. Spending a few days immediatley before a hunt is ideal to pattern the current conditions. Good Luck!

Anyone with an elk tag... That should get your blood moving! Thanks for the video

Unbelievable. Everyone is blaming this poor man for his personal problems? I can't believe our society. Mr Frost's continual acting out and blatant disregard for the law, obviously is his own simple attempt at capturing attention, not animals. He obviously is hurting emotionally and very lonely so the only way he can get the attention he needs it so keep the AZGFD on his tail. Okay.... I will Take off that politically correct hat now. What a moron! He Must have no brains if he keeps going out and doing the same thing and getting caught again and again!. I bet he is the only one not complaining about not getting drawn. He gives all hunters a bad rap. I would like to show him some hunting etiquette.

If you have no lion tag, and no gun, that is when you will see one... rather that is when one of them will see you. Take it from me on that! 6a in 2001 I had one REAL close while pre-season scouting bull elk. I have hunted 24b a lot and have seen lots of tracks and scat from lions. Never saw a lion in 24b, but I know they are in there.

Bowsniper just do't get out much anymore. He got his buck last year and hasn't been able to get any sleep since. All that horn honking can keep anyone from getting sleep. LOL Just funnin ya Bowsniper.

Good Luck Muskrat. That area is pretty close to home fro you isn't it? Lots of day trips for scouting should make it easy!

You may be armed like the smugglers but you would not be out to kill someone to protect a secret. The difference is they will shoot to kill and not give it a second thought. I think we all agree the smugglers (drugs and humans) are the worst part of the problem. I am infuriated that no one in authority does anything significant to stop this situation from playing out every day. Mexico needs to clean up their problems and quit looking to the US to bail their sorry selves out. I heard last week that the new border fence (concrete) is supposed to start construction soon. Something like 235 miles long and I think it starts around Nogales moving toward Yuma. How long will it be before Mexico uses Ronald Reagan's famous line about Tearing down this wall.

Tam Happy Birthday! Hope your day is a great one. Thanks for sharing with us at here at CWT.

Nice pic, but if you Had a Cam there since May and just now getting pictures? What changed to cause the deer to move to this tank? Forest fire? Ranin or lack of, Other activity? I would want to look into that so you can ensure you will be where the deer are during season. Good Luck.

I believe it was 36b that last year had a hunter killed in his camp. He was alone and the story came out initially he was killed by a bear or lion. The autopsy came in and he was shot and killed first, then mauled later. Not sure if the authorities ever caught the suspects. Another post in the same thread aI believe talked about hunters who encountered illegals. Most of them are "distressed" anyway from the journey, but the drug and human smugglers are not in that class. they would kill you just to keep you from identifying them or their routes. I suggest you talk to border patrol and see if your camp is going to be in a hot zone. And camp with others, but above all, stay vigilant. In those units, there is at least a degree or 2 more of risk, somewhat more than other units.

Can somebody explain to me .......

AZ300wsm Is that you Joe? -
The AZGFD website suggests possible areas north of superior. Unfortunately the Peachville fire (1800 acres) is burning a boatload of forest right now, exactly where they suggest to try... 5 miles north of superior. This area is really overhunted anyway IMHO! Tons of locals from the area camp and hunt there. Some are not too careful about hunting, but are out there just to party. Just Too many unpredictable hunters for my likes. Fire info.... PEACHVILLE (1,800 acres, 5% contained) is 4 miles north of Superior and burning in Tonto National Forest. Roadblocks are in place on Forest Roads 234, 650, and 8. The fire is moving into Superstition Wilderness. The town of Superior, local mines, and a power substation have been secured. Crews are burning out, patrolling the line, and mopping up. For more information, call Tonto National Forest at (602)-225-5200. You might try the pinto mine road. Go through the mine (escort requires at times) and across the small bridge, then take a look at the canyons to the west. Some good deer can even be found in and aroud the mine. I have also seen good deer in this unit coming from the roosevelt lake side. pick a FR and head south up toward the mountains from the apache trail. Most anywhere is good in the unit. Muley or WT can be found in virtually the same areas. I saw a muley in the Queen valley area one time that was just HUGE. My father in law was with me and he saw it first at about 75 yards, Just standing. He said it was as big as his horse (buckskin quarterhorse). I don't think it was that big, but it was close! A few more notes unit, IT IS RUGGED. Plan on wearing out ONLY a pair of boots if you are lucky, and your feet if you are unlucky. There are some deer in the 90" class but very very few a lot bigger than that so don't go out expecting a monster. Get out and scout it yourself and be surprised. You will find a good spot I am sure! good Luck

Send me a PM and I might have an idea or 2 for you to try.

It ain't no Polaris, but I have seen some of these quads in the range of 200-250 cc for 1800-2500 bucks new. New store in town, Pay n Save had a decent one for around 1800 and pep boys has a couple in various sizes 50cc and up to 200 cc for a bit more. Almost worth buying, then selling after the season!

Talk about a close guess from a single picture! Spot on dude! I guess maybe we should all re-evaluate our guesses for the July contest after we look back to see what Treestandman guessed them at. Thansk for sharing the picture and the scoring story!

Windy Hill Light post
az4life replied to Diamondbackaz's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Oh my gosh! is that really on windy hill? I knew the lake level came up but wow! that photo is great. Hoe they warning buoys in that area! -
Wow, Very fortunate you were in the right place at the right time to see that. Too bad the ram couldn't get out, but that is the law of nature. You might want to call the Region 5 office in mesa to let them know what you saw. I am not sure how close a count the department keeps on those sheep, but your info won't hurt them. I recall seeing sheep there just after they were transplanted. For years after, I would go up boating, fishing, and ski-ing and love to sit and watch them while eating lunch on the boat. Ski-ing from the "snags" back to the bouy's and back to the snags was a favoite part of the lake for me. fishing the channel under the canyon lake bridge was great too. Have not been there in a number of years as I moved to the other side of the valley and sold the boat. Thanks for re-kindling that memory in your story.

Another welcome to daryl_s. The knowledge and experience sharing is something that brings lots of folks in. The great attitudes andgreat people keeps them coming back! -
I cannot believe the # of hits we have on this thread! almost 1500 in less than 7 hours! I guess the story is go to CWT and check to see if the results are in, then go to AZGFD and find out the results, then go back to CWT and post your results. Thanks for the facility to share our results Amanda. But What are we gonna do next week? Ernesto, Thanks for the "attaboy" Allen, I feel your pain! After my last year, I played the odds this year and gave myself 2 good choices, then padded #3,4,5 with units that usually have leftover tags, or at least have 100% draw for #1,2 choices. I did not want to be sitting on the CWT board this year listening to everyones stories. You are welcome to stop in my camp anytime. Sounds like lots of you got 6a tags for Elk or deer, so make sure to get a lion tag. There are lots of them in there and the AGFD wants to clean house before the sheep are transplanted. Again, Congratulations to everyone drawn and my sympathy to those not drawn.
