long long distance shooting
az4life replied to muledeerarea33?'s topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Looked the clip over and one point they basically said, all it take si money to get the equipment to see it and shoot it. one of those shots was 1078 yards? You gotta be kidding! Might as well sit on your porch in AZ and pop a whitetail buck in TX. Hey I think they do that now! -

Here is a new Twist. Maybe the AZGFD should have a "Slot Hunt" for Big game. Sort of like the trout restrictions where you toss back anything under a foot and over a 18inches. Might be interesting. It certainly would encourage more practice at longer shots. I can see it now, We could see hunters stalking AWAY from deer, complaining that they have to get another 150 yards away so they are legal. Maybe the Slot limit could be for selected calibers. 30/30 has to be within 150 yards and a 300 win mag has to be 300 yards out to 700 yards. Okay, well ya never know what is on the way in the AZGFD minds. -
long long distance shooting

I was watching a TV show last night (NCIS) with some related info. There was a sniper situation involved and the main character (Mark Harmon) was supposed to be a military sniper some years earlier before becoming an NCIS agent. Through the dialog, they made the point that the .308 is the most popular rifle round ever and that it is a favorite among snipers. Shooting 1 inch groups at 600 meters was quite easy for trained snipers. Back to my point, Long Range shooting is interesting and somewhat of an art. That art is achieved with lots and lots of practice. It does not come easy in time, materials or efforts. Using all of your abilities while hunting is to be expected, but if you have not practiced A LOT and become proficient, at long range shooting, do not expect that miracle shot when you have buck fever. I truly respect and admire those who have this ability! I do not consider my own ability of "sniper" quality and my fear in discussions like this, is that some amateur or novice will sight in at 100yds with 2 inch groupings and expect to be able to shoot a buck at 600 yards just because someone else has done it. We all have limits to our distance shooting, and should always try to stalk to within that limit attempting to create the best opportunity to make a clean kill. I might max out at 400 yards in good conditions but lots of wind, poor light with no rifle rest and poor footing could change that to 200 yards in some cases. Long distance shooting also creates problems with knowing what is beyond your target. A 400 yard shot across a canyon to a target on the ridge provides you no definite safe backstop. Bottom Line, practice practice practice Know your limits and don't take low percentage shots because they are LOW PERCENTAGE. Stay Safe while I put my soapbox away. -

Great pictures and sounds like a great hunt.! congratulations -
Amanda is right. Keeping meticulous notes is a requirement for accurate research. Mental notes are just not reliable when you have so many of them in your head.

I'VE BEEN ROBBED!!!
az4life replied to hunterdude's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
That is a bummer! Just the film missing is very strange. Bears like the smell of film, but that does not splain the cut chain. The person probably did take the film to cover something that they did which may have been captured on film. Either that, or maybe they want to hunt that area and wanted to see what you caught on film. Thinking about it, the fact that they only took the film might discourage you and give them info all in the same action. If it was me, I sould put 2 cams with overlapping field of views. That will ensure you capture movement on both and if you are lucky, the perp won't find both of them. -
Coues Whitetail Background Location

Dan adopt a tortoise? I had no idea they let you do that! I have a neighbor who has 2 jumbo turtles that came from the adobe mtn rescue I think. I think they are african turtles. Sort of a funky looking protruding square pattern on the shells. One is about as big as a LARGE ottomon! Neat that you can adopt one! Later -

Good point, and as an example, I am listing a few of the categories the AGFD was taking nominations for awards. ---------------- YOUTH ENVIRONMENTALIST OF THE YEAR Any individual, 18 years of age or younger, who has excelled in efforts to benefit wildlife and the mission of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. CONSERVATION ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR Any organization, group, foundation, or agency that has excelled in efforts to enhance the welfare of wildlife, wildlife related recreation, and the mission of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. CONSERVATIONIST OF THE YEAR Any individual who through a professional agency affiliation has excelled in efforts to enhance, conserve, and manage wildlife or their habitats. ENVIRONMENTALIST OF THE YEAR Any individual, who on their own personal time, has excelled in efforts to promote, enhance or benefit wildlife and the mission of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. I first saw these categories and bout flipped! Sort of like Lark! Then I thought about it and supposed again it is the wackos have sullied the good name of conservationists and environmentalists.

Also bless those who sacrifice themselves in the name of stopping terrorism. even those not in the military! Tonight at 9pm Discovery channel has a tribute documentary on the terrorist takeover and subsequent crash of flight 93 in PA on Sept 11. This was the only flight taken over on that day that took no lives on the ground due to the heroic actions of the mostly civilian passengers and crew. I will be Recording it to watch and remember another day.

wal-mart vs local shops?
az4life replied to muledeerarea33?'s topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Story teller? Me I could bore the sox off people if they gave me half a chance. Actually I do have fun with stuff like that. I am off to a company training session tomorrow for a few days of "show and tell". My team has a big production session to give for a couple hundred people. Should be fun. I get to "Ham it up" for an hour after 2-3 months of prep. Just hope I don't fall on my face. As far as the retail manufacturer info, it is not any secret. It might make everyone smarter as a shopper knowing it though. -

The current trend in retail is to find a mass appeal product, then go to the Mfr and spec it out with slightly different things. Then sell it as a "house" brand. Costco and Walmart have both done this for years and been quite good at it. In many cases the items are "De-speced" removing items that are really worthless but were added due to no cost or low cost and being able to add more perception of value. You know what I mean? When you buy a drill and it has a built in level, A flashlite in the head, and a bunch of specialty bits. You likely will never use 2/3 of the bits and the flashlite but it Sells better on the box! By having a house brand, with similar specs a manufacturer can cut their liability in terms of warranty claims as the retailer covers that in most cases. The Mfr also avoids "direct" competition with yourself and problems with retailers wanting the same price as some other retailer. The retailer can sell the item cheaper than they can buy the original item in many cases. Ever notice how some appliance retailers say they will match or beat prices on exact items? Many of these sellers offer store specific items so no other retailer will have them. They never have to price match on house brands. Who wins in this increasingly common practice? Retailer? Customer? Manufacturer? Chinese? Ususally All of the above, but China is the big winner more often than not. The customer gets a decent item, the retailer makes good profit and the Mfr sells more product without offending thier hard core brand loyal customer. -
39 out of 100
az4life replied to muledeerarea33?'s topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
It sure seems like I saw it in the 11 range one time. I think it was in 2003-4? However During that time I was frequenting another site so maybe I am mistaken. Now CW is the main hunting site I go to, an yes it is several times, most days. As it has been said, this site is #1 in my book. -

At one time, I recall it was 11th out of 100. I do not know how the # is attained but I do believe it changes as traffic does. Just not sure about what actually drives it. -

Sounds like a bummer deal. I remember when I had Serious things like that taking up all my attention. Then Life got a lot easier with a house, Wife Family, Bills, Jobs and life in general. Sorry if I sound sarcastic, but my point is, there will be much bigger things in your life in the future. Don't waste energy trying to fix someone elses problems (your VP) just take care of your own stuff and your friends. Suspension would be pretty bad but it sounds like she ain't got no case. Empty threats I hope. Have a great weekend and good luck with what Monday brings. -

I have checked it a few times but I seem to look at all the wrong times. Occasional birds but nothing more. Gotta try that at 10pm tomorrow. -
Hey Amanda, What is the deal? All these sightings sounds like your hubby gets to drive your new jeep more than you do? Or Maybe he likes the CWT sticker, more than the jeep?
