Well it is a very nice looking deer. -
Ouch! Hope you get on the mend soon.

Great method. Looks quite easy and quick. I have heard of it before but never seen it done. I think I will try that this year.
-
Super looking buck and happy hunter there. Great job Seth.

50 feet? Those are tough shots when you are not ready and expectiong them. Great job!

Tommy With that attitude, it was sort of like rubbin salt in the wounds. Darn nice deer though.

I hate to admit it, but you guys all got me so fired up I could not wait for my late hunt. I went out tonight and saw this nice buck in a neighbor's yard. I will have to apologize to Nick when I see him. I feel sooobad but I Just could not resist, so , I "took" him. I did not shoot him, and instead wrassled him down and knocked the stuffings out of him. It was electrifyin experience. anyway, He went down pretty easy, and packing him was a breeze except for his long tail. Seems he had his tail plugged into an electrical outlet? I am not sure on the breed but he ain't got much fat on him! I'd score it around 122, and I think it is already past the mandatory drying period. I took a picture of him hangin in the front yard. Whadya think. okay... Who fell for this one?

Check out Bullwidgeon's post "Last Day Buck" and you will note he mentioned the heat and all the bucks thye saw were hanging close to water. Could be the heat has got them holed up near the tanks moreso than in the past. If it cools off, maybe your hunt will be differnt though. Good Luck

Great job guys! Another 2 give up tasting Tag soup for the year. I hate those hot hunts too. Gave up on the early hunts since it seems we always have one of those record breaking heat waves if I get drawn for the early hunt.

Casey Jus funnin with ya... I guess your shots were all "on a rope", drilling in the same spot. That is one way to save more meat! And yes, I would keep shooting too unless he was down or VERY hard hit and going down for SURE. I've Chased several across the hillsides and through brush follerin blood trails for WAY too long to let it happen again! Thanks for playin along.

Beware of the deer looking for love

Hey Lark, Was that your kinfolk killing that poof disoriented buck? -
Jamaro, I can't believe that thing! And you showed him your area before taking that toad yourself? You are a great friend!
-
Scottyboy Great story and a couple nice respectable bucks. Tag soup is okay from time to time, but it does get old 2 years in a row. Don't want to toss a blanket over the hot fire topic, but re-reading your post about the body size on your buck being small and the way it was charging a cactus, have you thought about having the CWD test done? Never a case yet in AZ but it is on the move. So many reports of large deer this one may not be a problem, but it is odd. Is anyone else thinking about it or am I just paranoid?

TAM My father in Law once had a big buck in his sights about 150 yds during a rut hunt. The buck was chasing some does and stopped across a ravine. Leigh fires 1 and misses, 2 and misses 3 and misses, with the buck just standing there. then finally drops him on #4. He said later the first 3 were "warning shots" and he only aimed on the last one. Yeah, right.... Anyway, I am trying to figure out why Casey fired 3 warning shots after dropping his toad? Maybe think the 3rd 4th 5th shots were celebratory, y'know the old west shoot in the air "yipee kayay" sort of thing.

Good Luck Keith. I was just wondering how your hunt was going.

I would say apprehension is normal. Probably where they got the term "gun shy". Glad to hear you have your gun working again. I would probably take it to the range to get your confidence back and have a rangemaster by your side just to be sure for the first few rounds.

Very nice mulie buck.

Hey Vegas I see your Jeep was still in the shop. Probably was a good thing as you needed the extra space for all that gear! Nice buck dude! Thanks for the pics and giving us some story details with them.
